Nestled in the heart of the Peak District National Park, these two beautifully refurbished studio apartments sit on the site of the former Quiet Woman pub in the charming village of Earl Sterndale. Fully renovated in 2025, The Loft and The Cowshed offer cosy, characterful accommodation ideal for couples and solo travellers keen to explore this stunning part of the country. The building itself is steeped in history, dating back to at least the 18th century, with some accounts suggesting it could be over 400 years old.
The Loft, located on the first floor, is a light-filled studio featuring a vaulted, beamed ceiling and Velux windows. A king-size bed, stable door, and a small sitting-out area make this a perfect retreat, with sweeping views across the hills. The Cowshed is on the ground floor and retains its rustic charm with an exposed stone wall and an original stone stall divider cleverly repurposed into the design. It offers a comfortable double bed and a small outdoor space to relax after a day in the hills. Both apartments benefit from private parking and are pet-friendly, so your four-legged companions are welcome too. Perfect for lovers of the outdoors, there’s a hot and cold outdoor hose for rinsing boots, bikes, and dogs, along with a dedicated drying room for wet weather gear.
Earl Sterndale is surrounded by dramatic landscapes and walking routes, including the iconic Parkhouse and Chrome Hill directly from the doorstep. Nearby Longnor (2 miles) offers two food-serving pubs and a traditional fish and chip shop, while the elegant spa town of Buxton, the market town of Bakewell, and the magnificent Chatsworth House are all within easy reach.
