About this property
3 Bed in Askrigg (oc-ds779)
A gorgeous Grade II-listed stone cottage with a lovely garden, this holiday home in Askrigg is made for a family or couple keen for a restorative break. Spend your days hiking or cycling in the stunning Yorkshire Dales National Park, followed by quiet evenings relaxing next to the multi-fuel stove – or sipping a local ale in one of Askrigg’s three lovely pubs. The four-person accommodation has a charming rustic ambience with a number of retained features, including beautiful beamed ceilings in many of its rooms.
Having hung up your coats in the entrance porch, step into the stone-flagged lounge, which has two welcoming sofas and a TV for kicking back in the evenings. Next door, the charming dining room creates a pleasant space for leisurely holiday meals, with its antique furniture and sweet sash window. The glorious farmhouse-style kitchen has an easy-to-use Rayburn cooker to inspire keen chefs, as well as an apron sink housed within pristine white units. Meanwhile, the cottage’s original stone-shelved scullery serves as a pantry, accessed through the lounge. Out the back, pass through the grassy area belonging to the neighbour, and through the old barn into a south-facing walled garden that’s yours alone. Here you can bask in the Yorkshire sunshine and dine alfresco on the raised patio.
Askrigg is known for its appearance of the BBC series, ‘All Creatures Great and Small’, so you can bathe in the nostalgic atmosphere as you explore your surroundings. The nearest pub is just 150 metres away, and Askrigg has a brewery (0.5 miles) and craft shops to discover. When it’s time to pull your hiking boots on, there are many pretty trails leading from your front door, and 5 miles away in Hawes you can join the Pennine Way National Trail. Mill Gill (9.5 miles) offers a picturesque climb and an impressive waterfall in a sylvan setting.
