About this property
Marie's Houseboat Studio in Amsterdam Centre
Summary:
Experience Amsterdam from a unique 1901 houseboat studio, just a 5–10 minute walk from Central Station and the Nieuwmarkt area. Despite the central location, this historic boat offers rare peace and charm surrounded by water views. The open-plan duplex features a kingsize bed, private entrance, private bathroom, and a cozy living area with kitchenette. Guests may also enjoy the shared rooftop terrace with panoramic city views.
The Space:
Stay in a charming studio aboard an antique 1901 houseboat, thoughtfully converted into a warm and atmospheric private guest space. The studio spans two open-plan levels connected by a small staircase.
Upper level: a cozy sitting area with sofa (optional sofabed for a 3rd guest at extra charge), dining table, TV and a compact kitchenette for simple meals or morning coffee.
Lower level: an inviting bedroom with a comfortable kingsize bed and an ensuite bathroom.
Please note that the studio has an open layout - the living area and bedroom are not separated by doors.
Guests may also enjoy the shared outdoor terrace, offering beautiful panoramic views over the water and the city. It’s the perfect spot to unwind after exploring Amsterdam.
Because the boat is accessed by walking over the decks of two neighbouring boats and includes several small steps inside, the accommodation is not suitable for guests with reduced mobility or those with heavy luggage.
Guest Access:
Guests have a private entrance to the studio and full access to both levels of their accommodation.
You may also use the shared rooftop terrace of the houseboat, which offers stunning open views of the city.
Please note:
The boat is reached by walking over two neighbouring boats - a normal part of houseboat life in Amsterdam.
Not suitable for guests who are less mobile due to multiple steps and boat access.
The Neighborhood:
The studio sits on a peaceful row of houseboats at the edge of the Nieuwmarkt area, one of Amsterdam’s most authentic neighbourhoods, yet pleasantly removed from mass tourism. Within minutes you’ll reach iconic highlights such as:
- Central Station (5–10 min walk)
- The Maritime Museum
- Nemo Science Museum
- Basilica of Saint Nicholas
- Historic canals, cafés, and traditional Dutch bars
The nearby Marineterrein is a lively hotspot with restaurants, waterfront terraces, and cultural events.
Despite being in the city centre, the direct houseboat surroundings are calm giving an ideal balance between vibrant Amsterdam life and peaceful waterside living.
Getting Around:
Getting around could not be easier.
Amsterdam Central Station is only a 5–10 minute walk, offering trains, trams, metro and buses to all parts of the city and the airport.
Most major attractions, like the canals, museums and charming neighbourhoods—are easily accessible on foot.
Renting bikes is simple and nearby if you want to explore Amsterdam the local way.
Because the accommodation is on a boat and down several steps, we advise travelling light when possible.
Other Things to Note:
Please keep in mind that reaching the houseboat requires walking over the decks of two neighbouring ships. This is a normal part of living on the water in Amsterdam, but it may be challenging for guests with limited mobility or those carrying heavy suitcases.
Because the boats are connected, you may occasionally hear neighbours walking across the deck. This is typical for houseboats and part of the authentic experience.
Interaction with Guests:
Your hosts live on the ship, so we are nearby and easily approachable if you have questions during your stay.
