About the host
Your host
We're Gerben and Rodinde — a couple who fell in love with Amsterdam, with historic vessels, and with the idea that a truly special stay should feel like nothing else you've ever experienced.
Gerben grew up with a deep fascination for ships and the sea. After training at maritime school in his younger years, that love never left him. When the Reussi came into his life — a weathered, characterful historic vessel with extraordinary bones — he knew exactly what he wanted to do with her. He led the full renovation himself, restoring her structure, her soul and her seafaring dignity, deck by deck and beam by beam.
Rodinde brought something equally essential: an eye for beauty, a love of elegant detail and an endless dedication to making every corner of the Reussi feel as warm as it looks. From the texture of the linens to the light in the living room, her touch is everywhere.
Together, we've created something we're genuinely proud of — and we love sharing it. Hosting, for us, isn't a business transaction. It's an invitation. We want you to feel at home on the water, in one of the world's most beautiful cities, aboard a ship with a story worth telling.

Why they chose this property
The Kalkmarkt is one of Amsterdam's widest and most quietly magnificent canals — and in our view, one of the most underrated addresses in the entire city. It sits right at the edge of the historic centre, where the old trading heart of Amsterdam once pulsed with ships arriving from every corner of the world. Mooring the Reussi here felt right from the very first day!
What we love most is the balance this location offers. You're genuinely central — Dam Square, the waterfront, Centraal Station and some of the city's finest restaurants and museums are all within easy walking distance. And yet, standing on the deck of the Reussi, the canal feels calm, wide and unhurried. The classic canal houses line the quay, boats drift past at their own pace, and the city reveals itself gently rather than all at once.
For us, this is Amsterdam at its most authentic: lived-in, layered with history, and still quietly stunning after all these years. We wouldn't moor her anywhere else!

What makes this property unique
The Reussi is not a converted barge or a floating apartment. She is a genuine historic vessel with real maritime heritage — and she has been restored, from the inside out, by someone who understands what that means.
Both suites — the Captain's Cabin at the aft and the Sailor's Suite at the bow — have been designed as complete, self-contained retreats. Private terraces on the water, a sauna, thoughtfully curated interiors, premium linens, and the kind of stillness you simply cannot find in a hotel room. Every material, every finish, every detail was chosen with intention.
But beyond the amenities, what makes the Reussi truly singular is the feeling she gives you. The slow movement of the water beneath you. The view of 17th-century canal houses from your private deck. The sense that you are not just staying in Amsterdam — you are part of its living, breathing waterway history.
There is nothing quite like waking up on the Reussi. We built her for guests who know the difference.
