About this property
Cosy Wye Valley cottage within ancient woods at Penallt, 5 miles to Monmouth.
When at The Generals Cottage listen to the babbling brook running by the cottage on its way to the 'once' mill house, and then the owls in the woodland. You won't be surprised to see a few of our local fallow deer. And with our high speed broadband you can share this experience immediately with all your friends.
These are the types of comments many of our guests leave for us to read after their stay here.
The cottage sleeps up to 4 people in 2 bedrooms and all accommodation is on the first floor. The ground floor is used as our home office. To maintain guest privacy the office is rarely used if we have cottage guests.
The Generals Cottage is in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the woodlands nearby are also SSSI designated to protect animal habitat and more.
The cottage is located in the Wye Valley which has been a UK holiday destination for 200 years at least and William Wordsworth even wrote poems about it during his visits, especially to Tintern Abbey nearby.
Canoeing the river Wye has to be one of the best ways to explore the area, but walking, cycling or driving your car will all bring many new experiences each day.
Free parking is available for two cars near the cottage. When you arrive, park next to cottage and walk up the steps through the small garden area. Your front door is at the rear of the cottage and the key box is sited near the first floor kitchen window.

About the host

In the photo here, I'm the one in front on the ground being pointed at, at the end of a village Panto rehearsal!
I'm from the north west of England, quite near Liverpool, and grew up in the Beatles era. I've lived in South Wales for many years now with many activities to keep me busy. Such as the local Panto, tennis and forest walks with the dogs. Why go anywhere else!

Why they chose this property
Living within private woodlands just a few miles from a very active village, and close to the larger town of Monmouth we seem to have everything we could enjoy. From theatre and cinema and shops to cycling, walking, bird watching, deer visiting and more!
What makes this property unique
A unique feature we have is our Cadora brook, especially in the winter months, running through the old mill pool garden that is available for guest use. And we have bird song like you wouldn't believe, with visiting deer in the woods most days.
The cottage itself is made of stone, but we have insulated and refurbished it throughout which has made it a very cosy place to stay in the summer or winter.
