Once part of a Victorian vicarage, this grand home combines period charm with modern luxury. With high ceilings, original features, and tasteful renovations, this is the perfect place to relax and unwind. Secluded yet easily accessible, you’re just a short drive to some top dining spots (including 7 Michelin* restaurants), and the stunning Lake District.
The space
Tall pine trees part to reveal the grandeur of Danes Court House, standing proudly above its peaceful surroundings. This historic home, accessed via a charming gravel driveway and stone steps, offers free parking for 3 cars, and a walled terrace that’s perfect for catching the early evening sun.
Upon entering through the grand, partly glazed doors, you are welcomed into a formal dining room with bespoke carpet, high ceilings, and a feature fireplace. To the right, the spacious sitting room boasts arched windows, original Victorian cornicing, and an impressive bespoke carpet, designed to complement the room’s unique shape. This room also contains real fire which is super cosy on those cooler evenings.
The well-equipped kitchen features solid oak doors, a range cooker, microwave, fridge freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, toaster, and kettle.
Upstairs, the main bathroom offers a luxurious clawfoot roll-top bath with views over the garden and woodland.
The master bedroom impresses with Versace wallpaper and a recently renovated en-suite. The bedroom is extremely spacious. It has a TV, dressing table/desk, seating area and a king-size bed with a very high-quality mattress. All bedding is Egyptian cotton for that luxury touch and a perfect night's sleep. There is also a blue-tooth wireless speaker for your enjoyment and wireless phone chargers on each bedside. Plenty of storage is provided in the antique chests and wardrobe, as well as an iron and ironing board. A hairdryer is also provided in the room.
The second bedroom provides a cosy retreat with views of the rocky outcrop and skyline, complete with an original ornamental fireplace, a TV/DVD player, wireless phone chargers and high-quality beds for a perfect night's sleep wrapped in Egyptian cotton. Plenty of storage is provided - drawer space and wardrobe, as well as a wide selection of DVDs and a hairdryer.
Garden delights
The outdoor spaces are equally enchanting. Enjoy your morning coffee on the slate-covered top terrace, surrounded by vibrant planting and views over the sloping lawn and woodland. As the day progresses, relax on the lower terrace, bathed in evening sunshine. Here, nature’s soundtrack consists only of birdsong and occasional wildlife visits, making it a peaceful haven for guests.

Located on Cartmel Fell, Danes Court House is just 20 minutes from Junction 36 of the M6 and within a short drive of several excellent pubs and dining options, including The Masons Arms and The Hare & Hounds. You’re also close to Lake Windermere and the tourist spots of Bowness, Ambleside, and Hawkshead.
Out and about
Surrounded by scenic walks and cycling trails, the house offers easy access to the slopes of Cartmel Fell and St. Anthony’s Church, which is over 500 years old. Nearby attractions include Gummers How, Fellfoot Park, and the Michelin-starred restaurants of Cartmel and the South Lakes area.
There is a great choice of pubs within a few minute's drive of the house. The closest is the Masons Arms - a 15-minute walk away. We believe this is the best pub in the Lake District. It's atmosphere, whether inside or out is very special and the food is exceptional. In Bowland Bridge there is also The Hare & Hounds is also within walking distance and is another one our favourite traditional Lakeland pubs.
In Winster (10-minutes by car) there is The Brown Horse and in Crosthwaite (10-minutes by car) The Punch Bowl. Slightly further in Underbarrow is The Black Labrador.
There are 7 Michelin-star restaurants within a 30-minute drive of the house, including Rogan & co, L Enclume, Heft, The Samling, Source, Old Stamp House and Forest Side. Lake Windermere is less than a 10-minute drive and the tourist hot spot of Bowness is approximately 20 minutes. Hawkshead, Ambleside and Coniston are easily accessible from the property.
