There are 5 steps in the garden.. Arrive at Blindbeck Cottage and the first thing you notice is its quiet sense of history. This charming 17th-century retreat sits comfortably in the heart of Horton-in-Ribblesdale, blending traditional character with the comforts that make a stay effortless. Step inside and exposed oak beams, cosy living spaces and thick stone walls create an immediate feeling of warmth. There’s room here to gather and room to retreat, a bright living room for relaxed evenings, a separate dining room for long, laughter-filled meals, and a well-equipped kitchen that makes cooking a pleasure rather than a chore.

Upstairs, three inviting bedrooms, two doubles and one single, offer peaceful rest after full days outdoors, alongside a family bathroom with shower over bath. A downstairs shower room adds extra convenience. Outside, the private garden provides a quiet spot for morning coffee or an evening glass of wine, with Pen-y-Ghent rising proudly in the background. With private parking for two cars and everything thoughtfully provided, Blindbeck feels less like a rental and more like a true home away from home.

Then you step beyond the cottage door.

Horton-in-Ribblesdale is one of those rare villages that feels both peaceful and alive with possibility. Stone cottages line the lanes, a historic Norman church stands watch over the village, and friendly pubs glow invitingly at the end of the day. Just a five-minute stroll brings you to The Crown or The Golden Lion Inn, where hearty food and a warm welcome await muddy boots and rosy cheeks.

Towering above it all is Pen-y-Ghent, guardian of the village and one of the famous Yorkshire Three Peaks. From here, adventure begins almost immediately. You might set out to conquer the Three Peaks, Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, or wander west across Moughton Scar and into the wide, open beauty of Crummackdale. The Pennine Way starts here too, stretching north through some of England’s most dramatic upland landscapes. Whether you’re chasing challenge or simply soaking in the views, the fells deliver unforgettable moments.

The Settle-Carlisle Railway threads through the village, offering one of the most scenic rail journeys in the country. Watch a steam train cross the iconic Ribblehead Viaduct and you’ll feel as though you’ve stepped back in time. Nearby, the market town of Settle invites you to browse independent shops and explore its historic square, while natural wonders such as Malham Cove, Gordale Scar and White Scar Cave are all within easy reach. Skipton, Ingleton and Hawes add even more to discover.

At the end of each day, you return to Blindbeck, warm, welcoming, and ready for tomorrow’s adventure.
