Stay in the heart of the ancient Fes Medina. In a restored 400 years old house.
Yours alone. An entire traditional Fassi home — private courtyard, two terraces, panoramic rooftop views over the ancient medina of Fez. This house was restored from a crumbling shell over a year by its British owner, working with master craftsmen from the Fez medina . The result is a home that is genuinely authentic, genuinely beautiful, and genuinely comfortable. It sleeps up to six guests in three double bedrooms and when you close the front door behind you, the whole house is yours.
THE HOUSE Three double bedrooms — proper doubles, not twin beds Full bathroom and separate WC Traditional inner courtyard —the living heart of the house, cool and quiet. Lower terrace — perfect for breakfast, coffee and evening meals under the stars Upper terrace — panoramic views across the rooftops of one of the world's great medieval cities. Traditional Moroccan salon with library and flat-screen TV Fully equipped kitchen — cook in, or ask Mohammed to arrange a private cook Washing machine Air conditioning WiFi throughout Welcome pack of local Moroccan provisions on arrival.
YOUR HOST Steven is British Super host who has spent over 15 years in Fes, restoring Medina houses and working alongside local craftsmen. He knows the city in a way that few visitors or hosts ever do. His team, Mohammed and Saadire, has worked with him for over a decade and are always on hand to help with everything from local restaurants recommendations to organising Medina walks and day trips. Mohammed will always meet you on arrival and guide you to the house.
BREAKFAST Breakfast is not included in the house rental, but all guests are warmly invited to come and enjoy a complimentary breakfast at Dar Houdou — our guesthouse a short walk away — prepared each morning by Saadire. It is a ten-minute stroll through the medina and well worth the walk.
THE LOCATION Just off Talaa Sghira — one of the two great thoroughfares of Fez el-Bali — and ten minutes on foot from the Blue Gate, the famous tanneries, Al-Qarawiyyin mosque (one of the oldest universities in the world), and the main artisan souks. Quiet enough for an undisturbed night. Central enough to step out each morning into 1,200 years of living history.
A WORD ABOUT THE STAIRS Dar Medina is an authentic traditional Fassi house and has steep, characterful staircases between floors and up to the terraces — typical of medina architecture and part of what makes the house feel genuinely old and genuinely real. The upper terrace, reached by the steepest flight, rewards the climb with one of the finest views in Fez. Please do bear this in mind if you have any mobility considerations — we are always happy to discuss the layout before you book.
EXPERIENCES& EXCURSIONS Guided medina walks, day trips to the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas (home to wild Barbary macaques), the imperial monuments of Meknes, and the extraordinary Roman city of Volubilis. Ask us and we will tailor something to your interests.
