Dominating the village is the impressive Brough Castle, a striking riverside ruin once visited by Lady Anne Clifford, offering beautiful views and lovely picnic spots. The scenic River Swindale and surrounding fells provide excellent walking and cycling opportunities, with the Pennine Way passing close by.
Just a short drive away, Kirkby Stephen offers a traditional market town atmosphere with independent shops, galleries and access to the famous Settle–Carlisle Railway, renowned for its spectacular scenery.
