ABOUT THE PROPERTY
The Dairy Close is far more than just a place to stay; it is a fascinating piece of Sussex history. Set within the grounds of the Grade II listed Dairy House, which dates back to the early 16th century, the building originally served as cow sheds for the estate's home farm before being converted around the 1920s into the private studio of renowned British artist Edward Wadsworth. A pioneer of the Vorticist movement and founding member of Unit One, Wadsworth created some of his most celebrated works here, including Regalia (1928). During the 1930s, The Dairy House became a creative retreat for some of the leading figures of modern British art, welcoming visitors such as Henry Moore, Max Ernst, Paul Nash and Lee Miller.

Today, The Dairy Close remains a unique reminder of the estate's rich agricultural, artistic and cultural heritage, offering guests the opportunity to stay in a building that played a small but significant role in the story of modern British art.

ABOUT THE AREA
Set within the exclusive Maresfield Park Estate, The Dairy Close enjoys a peaceful countryside setting surrounded by rolling landscapes, mature woodland and beautiful green space. Once part of the historic Maresfield Park House estate, the area has a rich heritage dating back centuries and was home to several prominent families before evolving into the private parkland setting enjoyed today. Situated on the edge of Ashdown Forest and within easy reach of the South Downs National Park and Glyndebourne, the area is ideal for guests looking to enjoy scenic walks, cycling routes and outdoor adventures. Ashdown Forest, famous for inspiring A.A. Milne's Hundred Acre Wood in the Winnie-the-Pooh stories, offers miles of beautiful countryside to explore. With excellent transport links, the property is perfectly positioned for discovering the South East, just 35 minutes from Brighton, 25 minutes from Royal Tunbridge Wells and close to Crawley.
