About this property
The Cottage at Winghaven - A Stunning Woodland Paradise.
The Cottage at Winghaven is a light filled log cabin located less than 20 minutes to Asheville. The Cottage is privately located on 38 acres of forest but with easy access to shopping and restaurants. Relax in front of the wood burning stove, soak up the sun on the south facing deck or have a drink and watch the wild turkeys from the covered porch. The Cottage is perfect for a romantic getaway or for families! The main floor is accessible from the driveway without navigating stairs.
Main floor: The bedroom with a forest view has a queen bed and attached bathroom with step in shower. The living room has a Danish wood burning stove, and sliding glass doors to the south facing porch where you can soak up the sun and enjoy the view in classic Adirondack chairs. The covered front porch is also accessible from the living room and is inviting for a coffee on a rainy summer afternoon. The contemporary kitchen is well equipped to create memorable dinners. Loft: The sleeping loft is fun and comfortable for kids and adults alike. It is connected to the main floor and lower level with a spiral staircase. There are four twin beds with memory foam mattresses and a view out the south wall of windows. Lower Level: The lower level of the Cottage features a large bedroom suite with a queen bed, sitting area and sliding glass doors to the outside. There is a private bathroom with soaking tub, separate shower and two sinks. The lower level is connected with a spiral staircase but also has its own entrance from outside. The Cottage is a convenient home base for the multitude of activities our area has to offer: Visit the Biltmore Estate ( 11miles), Downtown Asheville (12 miles), Historic Hendersonville (14 miles), go tubing or kayaking on the French Broad River, zip lining, drive the Blue Ridge Parkway, hike a different trail every day or see five magnificent waterfalls in just one day. There are wine tastings, beer tours, music and dance performances to attend and fabulous restaurants to try. Biking is a favorite sport here be it on the road or on mountain trails. We are more than happy to help you with planning your vacation so please talk to us and let us know what you are interested in. Of course the Cottage is also an awesome place to just relax, enjoy the sun shining through the leaves, the peace of the forest and the starlit nights. Please note that the Cottage is accessed by a private gravel road but 4-wheel drive is usually not necessary. We are happy to talk you about the road if you have concerns about driving in the mountain!
We live about 10 minutes from the cottage. We are usually available to stop by if you need us to, and we are always available by phone. You'll receive an electronic lock code so check in and check out is easy. You'll enjoy complete privacy at the Cottage, but we are available if anything needs our attention.

This is the one of the most beautiful vacation rentals we have ever visited. The cabin is new, super clean, beautifully furnished and thoroughly equipped. We loved that we could bring our dog. We will be back for sure!
We really enjoyed our stay here! The location was absolutely perfect. It’s a quick drive to downtown Asheville for dinner, breweries, and exploring, while also being close to Pisgah, Dupont, and Brevard for biking and hiking adventures. Hendersonville is nearby as well, which is such a cute little town, and we loved having easy access to the Ecusta Trail. This spot made it so convenient to experience everything the area has to offer. We would definitely stay here again!
Great stay near Asheville for a little pre-Christmas get together. Hosts were great with communication and the property was just as nice as the pictures portrayed it to be.
The cabin had everything we needed and was bigger than expected! The downstairs suite was perfect and the location was secluded but convenient to local stores and coffee.
Our experience staying at this mountain cabin was extremely positive. The cabin was very warm, spotlessly clean, and surrounded by beautiful scenery. It felt cozy and welcoming from the moment we arrived. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a peaceful mountain getaway and close to the city.
Beautiful home! Secluded location but Asheville was only about 25 minutes away. Perfect for us and our college-aged daughter. :) Love all of the thoughtful, green products the owners use.
We loved our stay here and loved the cabin. The road was a but challenging but not too bad..the views were great..cabin was fully stocked..the only drawbback was the couch in the living area..it was not at all comfortable and not sufficient as the only seating for multipld people..replacing that would have made our stay perfect
Excellent cabin. Very clean. Had everything we needed to cook breakfast and dinners. Loved the downstairs bedroom suite. If you want to feel alone, this is your place.
Our family of 5 gathered here with my parents and our dog. This cabin worked well for us to visit the Biltmore and the NC arboretum. We really enjoyed the quiet and the views of the mountains. Hosts were very responsive and friendly!
We enjoyed our stay at the Winghaven Cottage. The view was beautiful. The proximity to Christ School, downtown Asheville and Biltmore was perfect. The beds were comfortable. We were thankful to find such a nice dog friendly place.
My family and our dog enjoyed the stay here so much, hopefully we can come back again. I’m an OCD and the house is super clean like it showed in the pictures. The bed and the bed linens were so comfortable!
Lovely cabin and location. The road to cabin is hard, and driveway is to steep to park.

I’m glad that you enjoyed your stay at Winghaven! I’m sorry that the driveway was inconvenient and for any future visit I would recommend parking in the several flat parking spots available on the side of the private road, very close to the front door, as explained in our welcome message.
The Cottage was all we expected and more. We felt remote, but Asheville was a relatively short ride away. We relaxed and had good R&R for the working folks and a great change of scenery and schedule for the retirees.
Cool property. Couldn’t have picked a better place to stay since it rained the whole weekend. The place was comfortable for all of us to hang out during the rain. Great place.
This was a great property. Very quiet and not too much of a hike up the mountain. Trees were changing colors so beautiful from the deck. Great amenities for cooking and comfortable space for relaxing.
This was a cozy, nice little cabin! Location is great and we enjoyed the fire pit. The only challenges were that the driveway is quite steep with limited parking space (would definitely recommend all-wheel drive), some of the lights needed switching out (e.g., light over oven), and there is limited seating area in the living room - especially given the number of beds.

We are glad that you enjoyed your stay at Winghaven! We would have been happy to replace lightbulbs for you if you would have let us know during your stay. Sometimes a lightbulb burns out and we are just not aware of it. For future visits and as mentioned in our welcome letter please consider not driving down the very short steep driveway but parking in front of the porch since there are four parking spots available for vehicles without four wheel drive.
Thanks again for staying at Winghaven and we hope to be able to welcome you again!

Loved the view!
Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the property. Had most of the amenities we needed. The property was clean and neat. The heating on the lower level had a hard time keeping up so it was a little cool but not unbearable. Would definitely stay there again.

Thank you for staying at Winghaven, we are glad you enjoyed your time there! You are right that it is hard to keep only the lower part of the house heated but if you turn up the heat upstairs the downstairs area will stay warm too since the warm air will not escape up the open staircase.
This place is exactly what we needed! It’s secluded enough so it’s completely private, and we loved hanging out on the deck soaking in the sun and nature, but it’s also close enough to Asheville so we could enjoy the town and good restaurants. The cabin is super clean and comfortable. Our kids especially loved the loft and the soaking tub.
My boyfriend, Karl Hoffmann and his mom Paula joined me at your lovely home to celebrate his 53rd birthday. Truly beyond our expectations – gorgeous setting and the home was delightful! Going to share the information with my brothers and mom, and we most likely will be booking another trip to one of your beautiful homes. Thank you so much for the opportunity to share this gorgeous cabin - Absolutely fantastic!

About the host

After living or owning properties in Germany, the Philippines, Hawaii, Manhattan, Croton-on-Hudson, and Raleigh, we chose the Asheville area to raise our three children. We love the cultural and natural richness of this place. The mountains, forests, ecological diversity, waterfalls and the local food movement, farms and markets, outstanding restaurants, cultural events and interesting, friendly people make this a great place to live and visit. We live just about ten minutes away from Winghaven, on a small farm with dairy goats, rare breed chickens, ducks, geese and dogs. . Of course we would also be delighted to have you come in person and visit with the animals during your stay at Winghaven! Naturally, we will always have fresh eggs from our happy hens as well as handmade goat's milk soap for you at the Cottage at Winghaven.
Why they chose this property
After three years of successfully welcoming guests to the Chalet at Winghaven (VRBO #659460) we decided to build the Cottage at Winghaven in walking distance, but still with complete privacy. Like the Chalet the Cottage is located at Winghaven, a 38 acre property of beautiful forest close to Asheville and Hendersonville, NC. The Cottage is perfect for families or groups of friends. We are very excited that we were able to provide a way to access the main floor without steps to navigate so everybody can enjoy this mountain cabin.
What makes this property unique
The Cottage at Winghaven was designed from the ground up to provide a relaxing, peaceful, private retreat for our guests to reconnect with family, friends or a significant other. It is also a perfect place to celebrate birthdays, graduations or stay for a beautiful mountain wedding. Of course we chose to build a log home because how can you not want to stay in a real log cabin in the woods? The wood burning stove and the large deck and covered porch invite you to slow down and relax inside or out depending on the season. Children and adults enjoy the sleeping loft. Alternatively the master bedroom is inviting and the lower level suite is very spacious with a sitting area and large bathroom. The three floors are tied together by a spiral staircase that leaves plenty of space to spread out and enjoy this cozy cabin.
