A little further afield – 27 miles – you’ll find Cheltenham, famed for its races, literature and music festival. Closer to home, why not cross the Halfpenny Bridge and stroll along the River Thames, where you’ll find a few traditional inns along the way, take a boat trip or visit one of the nearby National Trust centres such as Badbury – an ancient woodland with beech trees and carpets of bluebells in the spring (8 miles) or Buscot Park (6 miles) with its 18th-century house and landscaped gardens.

This spacious single-storey accommodation, is peacefully tucked away within the grounds of a private farm and offers a fabulous retreat for two (or four with the addition of a sofa bed.) On entering, you’ll find yourself in the welcoming open-plan lounge/diner that features exposed beams and stone floors, a warming wood burner and a large smart TV with Netflix or a Bluetooth speaker – perfect for enjoying cosy evenings together watching your favourite television shows or listening to music. The vaulted ceilings create a sense of space whilst the separate well-equipped kitchen has everything you need for cooking homemade meals which you can then enjoy at the dining table in the open-plan space. From here, large patio doors let the light flood in and provide easy access to the outside. The king-size bedroom is light and spacious, offering a restful place for a good night’s sleep.
