The Durango Mine Shaft, a humble vacation rental in the Animas Valley in Durango, is nestled among some of the largest pines in the Animas Valley and bordered by a seasonal creek which can be viewed from the two decks or from the comfort of the hot tub. This home offers a true Southwest Colorado experience. Indoors, light a fire and make your gourmet meal in the kitchen with granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances. Days filled with activities will have you sleeping well in this home, which sleeps 10. WI FI and cable tv mean you don't lose touch with the world, unless you choose to! This home is a 1970's A frame style cabin that has an eclectic Colorado Outdoor Lover's decor. It is set back off the road, on a 2 acre property with an 8 ft privacy fence in the front dividing the shared driveway with another home. There are tons of hiking trails within a short drive. It is located a half mile from Trimble Hot Springs & Spa and 10 minutes to Durango City Limits.

This home is best suited for folks who want to gather together in an open floor plan, enjoy the serenity of the tall trees, play outside during the day in Durango's ENORMOUS backyard, and live the good life in the moment. This is our cabin in the woods that is close to town. It does not boast elegant finishing touches, suburban curb appeal, or the shine of a new home. But it has upgrades where we think it counts, is comfortable and unique. We hope you will enjoy it too!

Weekend Getaway with Friends

Rented this house for a weekend getaway with our friends. We were all impressed with the house, it was gorgeous and so was the view off the deck. Close enough to town and well worth it versus staying in a hotel for the weekend. Highly recommend this house for you next stay.

Definitely older but cozy cabin

The cabin is exactly how they described on the post. Older but cozy environment. Perfect central location, we were minutes away from Purgatory resort, horse carriage adventures, Downtown Durango, Hot Springs. There were a few downers for me because I like luxury but not deal breakers. I wear makeup, the lighting is definitely different than I’m used but once again, not a deal breaker. View was amazing

Mine shaft

This rustic A frame cabin is quaint, there is a stream along side the house; furniture and beds were comfortable. House VERY clean and neat. The kitchen is amazing and is fully stocked. 2 different patio areas, 2 grills and a hot tub! The master room has its own little deck. House has a Nice view of the mountains. We had 5 adults in our party and had plenty of space.. Scott was an attentive host, an easy to get a hold of. If I could give 10 stars I would.

The property owner never contacted VRBO to cancel our stay. We showed up our check-in day that morning to come to find out that our our cabin was out of order for two weeks prior to our stay. We ended up staying at a hotel in town. Ruined our little one’s birthday getaway. You might want rethink booking this property.

The home was well furnished and the area was quite. It is just a short trip to downtown Durango but away from the city traffic. We enjoyed sitting on one of the decks in the evenings. The hot tub was nice at the end of the day. We would stay again.

Durango 2025

Wonderful space for family to gather together in the beautiful spaces of Durango. We loved the location as we like to be out of town a bit so it's quiet and peaceful. We hiked behind the house, rode the train to Silverton, enjoyed the Durango Hot Springs, cooked a little, ate out a bit and everyone had a really wonderful time. Our host was very kind and helpful and made us feel at home.

Cozy Mountainside Getaway

Beautiful property tucked back next to a creek- very private- only 1/2 mile from the Durango Hot Springs Resort which was the highlight of our trip! Beautiful house with comfy beds. This house was stocked with everything we needed for a 2 night stay, we didn’t have to bring anything but ourselves!

Quick weekend in Durango

Just dropped in for a quick weekend. The location was great and we walked to the hot springs for a day and it was amazing.It is a very rustic cabin that was a little hard to find at our late, late night arrival. But once our found it, we were able to enjoy the scenery, hot tub, and area fully! It served its purpose well and we enjoyed our stay.Great hosts that were very responsive.

Great Place

We had a wonderful stay. The fireplace was warm and cozy everyday. The sun coming up over the mountains was so pretty. We had a great time in the hot tub after skiing all day.

Awful Experience

Pin link through VRBO takes you to the neighbors house which is extremely hard to get out of. The actual address looks like someone’s personal house (it is). You can’t see the “metal privacy fence” at night and you feel like you’re trespassing while trying to find the house. We tried reaching out to the property manager, Scott. We left a voicemail and a text after he didn’t answer. Scott responded 2 hours later with a text that didn’t make sense. House had mouse poop on the beds and unwashed sheets. We are extremely unimpressed with the professionalism of this property. We travel often for work and use VRBO all the time. We have never had an experience like this. We do not recommend this property

Quaint but interesting...

Nice, private and roomy. Met our needs and great overall location for our time spent in the area. Property just seemed "tired" and in need of some work. Couple of quirky items/areas (laundry drain, upstairs bathroom), but again, sufficient. Owner responded well to a couple of issues we had. Hard to find (or understand where to look) in the dark - better explanation on what will be found when you get there would have helped.

Clean and well kept.

Clean place with nice hot tub. A little tricky getting luggage from the cars up to the house, but overall a nice place. Would stay there again.

Cabin was adequate. Hard to see address behind the weeds. Wish the description would have said an irrigation ditch was right beside the cabin, as we had a toddler in the party.

Not so much

Great location. Air condition was a smaller unit and did not cool the house so we had to keep windows and doors open. Each bedroom had its own air system and was good. Parking is an issue for 12 people but Scott was great helping work it out. The grills have holes rusted in the bottom but worked. The place served it’s purpose but would not recommend it.
