About this property
Garden house from the 15th century near the Ponte Vecchio
Just steps away from the Ponte Vecchio, on the “Oltrarno” side of the historic center of Florence, this lovely and elegant home provides all of the comforts of the modern world combined with the rich history of the 15th Century.
This home used to be the 'Forni Reali' or royal bakery serving the Medici and later the Italian royal family when they occupied the Palazzo Pitti. It comprises 130 square meters (approx. 1,399 sq. ft), and has 3 bedrooms, each with private bathroom, a large living room and fully-equipped modern kitchen, small study and additional half bath. The apartment sleeps 6-8 people, and wraps around a lovely courtyard garden adorned with flowers, fountain and goldfish. Decorated both for comfort and charm, the home contains an eclectic mix of antiques and modern furniture.
The apartment has its own separate entrance on the ground floor, only one step up from the street, and is equipped with all necessary amenities, including central heat and air conditioning, satellite t.v. and DVD/VCR player, Internet connection, dishwasher, full size refrigerator, and washing machine. One of the owners is an artist who splits his time between Florence and New York City, and many of his original artworks are exhibited in the home, including large oil paintings in the living room, and frescoes in the bedroom.
The apartment is located on a pedestrian-only street just off a charming piazza. There you will find a famous restaurant and delightful cafe. Just 3-4 minutes away you will find the Ponte Vecchio, and you can walk to the Duomo and Piazza della Signoria in 5-10 minutes. A parking garage is located 1 minute away, and local bus stops servicing all parts of the city are also just minutes away.

This is such a beautiful spot, close to all the attractions but far enough away to get away from the crowds. The beds are comfortable and the bathrooms clean. The living space is great and the kitchen has all that we needed!Be sure to have the coffee, Gelato, and crostinis nearby!
Amazing place to stay right near the Ponte Vecchia. The house manager Gentianna is also a licensed guide. I highly recommend her for tours of the Duomo, Accademia and the Ufizzi. She was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and passionate about the art.
Great communication with checking in. Excellent location, but a lot of noise right outside the door (bar next door/ in the street). Amazing apartment but could use a little TLC ( light bulbs, window screens torn so had to leave windows closed due to mosquitoes!). Washing machine worked well and plenty of outdoor patio space to dry your clothes. Close to river, restaurants, shopping, and walkable to all the favorite sites.
Stunning ancient property. Coffee shop, bar, Gelato and restaurants within feet. Grocery store and Ponte Vecchio 3 mins walk. Pitti Palace 5 minutes. Santo Spirito Basilica and market square 5 minutes. Host responsive Local hostess and drivers incredible!!! Would DEFINITELY stay here again!

Location: close to many great spots. Right next to Palazzo Pitti. Ground level, so no stairs to get in. Directly next to a busy area, so some noise from the street and from people walking along the terrace directly above.Communication: some issues in communication that were solved at the last minute.Accomodations: incredibly spacious. Loads of ammenities (extra towels, coffee, sugar, cooking utensils, etc). Could have been a bit cleaner.
The Garden house was in a perfect location, easy to walk everywhere and great restaurants and cafes on the same street. The house had plenty of room for my family of 6 and the host was very helpful with recommendations and arranging transportation to and from the airport. We had an amazing time!
My family of six could not have enjoyed our stay in Florence more. The garden house’s location was absolutely perfect to walk & experience the city and felt extremely authentic. It all felt very ‘local’ and inviting. It is a lively spot and people were sipping espresso and enjoying cocktails right outside our door well into the evening but there was no street noise from the bedrooms. We took advantage of their car service from Florence airport which was very efficient well worth the expense. I would go back tomorrow and stay a month if I could!
Beautiful, historic Vrbo steps from a very busy plaza, amazing gelato, a coffee shop and both sit down and take away restaurants. Short walk to many of Florence’s highlights. Gentiana made us feel welcome upon arrival. Communication with both the owner and Gentiana was top notch. Property layout worked well for us: our family ranged from 18-88yr olds and we each got our own space and a wonderful living room area to gather and relax when we weren’t out exploring. Highly recommend for the ambiance and location. Third bedroom/bath is separated by a small enclosed courtyard, so if you have children 10 that you plan to have own room, you just need to consider that. It was perfect for our teen. We were there to visit our daughter studying abroad and fell in love with this beautiful city. If you visit, be prepared for crowds & we suggest staying more than a few days to soak in all the culture, food, art and of course shopping!
The apartment is IDEALLY located! The manager was very responsive and solicitous of our needs. The somewhat quirky layout is attributable to the building’s former commercial use, but because the bedrooms are at the rear, it works perfectly and is quiet for sleeping. All in all, a great choice for families or friends (like us) traveling together.
The property was perfectly equipped for our stay (4 days, mid-November). We were very comfortable and had everything we needed. Genta, our contact at the house, was WONDERFUL!! She took such good care of us in terms of helping us get around. She also was our guide at the Galleria dell' Accademia and we learned so much. Thank you, again, Genta!
The apartment was a perfect home base for visiting Florence - in the heart of the Oltrarno neighborhood with plenty of space for traveling friends or family. The neighborhood is busy, but the apartment is an oasis! The property manager (Gentiana) was very helpful -- and full of suggestions and ideas for making the most of our stay in Florence. I would rent this lovely, rustic space again and again!
N/A on air conditioning as it wasn’t needed. Host was amazing and extremely helpful with restaurant suggestions, arranging transportation, and anything we needed-went over and above!
This property was very clean with the exception of mold on the wall in two bedrooms. When we saw this, it was a little upsetting and my one person in our party actually called VRBO to complain. But the property manager was great and took care of the problem with bleach. The property couldn't have been better located. It was near all of the important sights and also close to many restaurants for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The kitchen was well stocked for cooking, but we never used it in the short time that we were there. We felt that the [pictures on line looked a lot nicer than the actual property which could use a some redecorating. Also the description doesn't tell you that one of the bedrooms is outside facing the courtyard of the main house which could be a problem for young children.
This was a very interesting property with quite a history. We enjoyed our stay and the property mgr was very accommodating the last day as we had to leave our luggage at the property past the check-out time. Would recommend !!
The location of the garden house was amazing! It's just off a piazza that is a local hangout and the gelateria was the best in the Oltarano. It was lively and fun. The street noise in the living room was loud sometimes, which added to the fun local feel, and the bedrooms were always quiet and peaceful. The heat in the back bedroom didn't work but the property manager provided a space heater. The blankets were cozy so the space heater was only turned on in the morning before getting out of bed.
