About this property

Wild Coast Lookout offers privacy and a dramatic view of the Oregon Coast.

Wild Coast Lookout, perched on the shoulder of a ancient sea stack, offers privacy and a dramatic view of the Oregon coast. Hawks and owls are frequently sighted in the trees on the property, and at night, as you soak in the hot tub, you will be treated to the sound of ocean waves and a chorus of frogs in the estuary below. The Lookout is located within just a few minute's walk of Turtle Rock beach, and a short drive to some of the most spectacular beachcombing shores of the Pacific Northwest.

Wild Coast Lookout offers a very private setting with ocean and mountain views. Perched on the shoulder of an ancient volcanic sea stack, about 60-feet above sea level and with a steep drop-off on three sides of the property, it feels like you are on your own little island. At the same time, it is a very convenient 5-minute drive to Gold Beach for dining and other services you might need.

Wild Coast Lookout is located on a slope above Turtle Rock Beach, just a couple miles south of downtown Gold Beach. The few homes on the hill are mostly far apart and separated by forest. The nearest neighbor is a small cottage next door, but they cannot see the Lookout's hot tub, sun deck or lawn. To the west is a dramatic view of the coast. Several species of wildlife are frequently sighted on the property, including deer, racoons, hawks, owls, quail and hummingbirds. On most nights you will be lulled to sleep by the sound of ocean waves and frogs singing in the estuary and pastures below.

Guests have exclusive access to all areas of the 1-acre property, including a large private hot tub with ocean view, outdoor shower, sun deck, lawn and terrased gardens. Inside, they have total access to all spaces with the exception of a storage closet where the hosts keep cleaning supplies.

The owners of Wild Coast Lookout live in Alaska most of the year, but your local hosts, Clare and Mitchell, live nearby, and they are available to provide any information or assistance you might need, day or night. Just call or text to contact them. They will get in touch with you shortly before your arrival to introduce themselves.

Most folks will really enjoy Wild Coast Lookout's secluded setting, but we do not recommend it for families with young children (age range of about 2-9 years) because of concerns that they might fall when climbing or descending the ladder-steps to the sleeping loft. Additionally, there are unfenced, steep, downhill slopes on three sides of the property.

Amazing home!
The weather was very stormy but it didn't matter because I could stay in this amazing eclectic home forever! The craftsmanship and decor was exactly my style !! Details were excellent, very thought out and clever concepts. I can't wait to go back this summer !!

Disappointing Inaccurate Description
You barely hear ocean waves over traffic roar from Highway 101, screaming kids, barking dogs, & thundering motorcycles in the RV park immediately below, and the outdoor restaurant with loud drinkers. It’s all a unique dramatic view between the property and the Ocean! Turtle Rock is an RV park of several acres right below property. Getting to the beach means walking at least ½ mile down the driveway, then through the RV park to the beach. The “estuary” is a mostly dried up Hunter Creek heavily laden with masses of dead algae and little flowing water, not a true estuary with tidal influence. At night we were lulled to sleep by 101 traffic noise, drowning the barely perceptible crash of ocean waves, especially punctuated by highway truck jake brakes. Sunday morning coffee was to the beat of a tractor back-up alarm in the lumberyard below. In the hot tub, it’s possible to see the ocean beyond the highway if you stand up or sit on the sides, a cold experience when wet. Vegetation not cut short enough to see much while sitting in tub. When we had difficulty with the BBQ to cook our fresh fish, the owners said we could just go eat at a local restaurant instead of helping us. The kitchen is limited to a two-burner hot plate and a countertop air-frier for cooking. This location with its REAL ambiance compares to other locations at much less per day than we were charged! It is NOT a romantic, ocean view as a back to nature place to stay. Very disappointed!!!

Unique home with priceless views!
Privacy, hot tub, and a view! This home checked all my vacation requirements and more! Fully equipped with all the things you’d need and thoughtfully decorated to keep your eyes hunting for treasures all throughout your stay. There is one home next door but wild coast lookout offers a variety of privacy solutions for that and we felt very much alone at the top of this hillside. Wonderful home, wonderful views, wonderful stay. We most definitely plan on staying here again and couldn’t recommend it enough :)
