SALTY DOG is a 2 bedroom 2 bath oceanfront home located just north of Gold Beach in Rogue Shores a small oceanfront community of about 30 homes 1 MILE WEST of the Highway 101 and away from traffic. Gold Beach is located about 30 miles north of the Oregon/California border on the world famous ROGUE RIVER. This open plan 2 bedroom home has all wood floors with a full west side glass wall and panoramic views of the coastline and ocean. The main floor is the second floor with the living room with wood burning fireplace, dining room, full bath and kitchen and full laundry. The bedroom has a queen bed and a twin. Our beach is about 3 miles long and sandy with large off shore rocks and the Marine Mammal Reserve from the mouth of the ROGUE RIVER to the south and OTTER POINT to the north. The lights of Port Orford are visible at night to the north west and you can see the Cape Blanco lighthouse flash every 20 seconds. There are many Harbor seals, Sea Lions, sea otters and sea birds off shore and grey whales can be seen years round. Look for agates (semi precious stones) shells, driftwood and other interesting items or you can just enjoy a nearly empty beach and watch the waves and sunsets.

My fiancé and I celebrated our two year anniversary there. We did the glass float hunt by the visitor center, and we found two! It was a romantic little getaway.
You can't beat this location and the beautiful view. A quick drive into the Red Woods or head N. for a fun day in the dunes, this location is ideal. The house is fully stocked with all your needs, that was really great to see. The home does need a thorough, deep clean from cobwebs in the corners of rooms, to grime on/in the refrigerator and stove and tons and tons of ants - small sugar ants everywhere. We enjoyed the area and exploring both north and south up and down 101, it's just so incredibly breathtaking.
Great view of the ocean from the great room. House is a bit outdated but very cozy. Well stocked supplies. Kids had a great time and was grateful we were able to bring the dog!
Unfortunately the weather was not in our favor but none the less it was a wonderful stay. The beach is super close. The home is very private with a wonderfully located hot tub but still close to everything restaurants, shopping etc.
The house was perfect. Loved listening to the ocean. Relaxed by the fireplace. Soaked in the hot tub. Listened to the waves crashing with a big storm. Everything you could want for the beach!!Can’t wait to stay again.
My husband and I enjoyed our stay at the Salty Dog, this is our second time staying here. It was comfy and the check in was easy.It was a bit chilly so built a cozy fire in the fireplace and also enjoyed the hot tub. Everything was as described. The walk to the beach was a bit difficult for me as some of the steps are coming loose and some missing. Overall, we had a very nice time on our visit and the weather was better than predicted which we appreciated! We would definitely stay at the Salty Dog again.
Wonderful place for a relaxing beach getaway. We watched beautiful sunsets from the deck, took the private path right to the beach, bbq’d on the blackstone grill, and enjoyed time in the hot tub. When it got cooler we lit a fire, played loads of games, watched one of hundreds of movies, & enjoyed the ocean view from the full wall of picture windows.Highly recommend!
The Salty Dog was wonderful. Great view of the Pacific Ocean and easy access to walk the beach. Recommend walking north up the street to High Tide Ave (4-5 houses) for the easiest access to the beach.
Communication before and during the stay was exceptional: Speedy and thorough :)
The location, home, and amenities were great --- spending the day at the beach outside the doorstep followed by movies on the large screen TV -- all with room to spread out --made our summer's end very memorable. Hope to be back again next year!
We enjoyed walking on the beach, watching beautiful sunsets, and sitting in the hot tub. We also went on Jerry's Jet Boat tour on the Rogue, it was awesome! We took a day trip to the California Redwoods. It was a relaxing trip for our family of four.
The Salty Dog has an ideal beach location, which was our primary criterion for a VRBO property. The house was very comfortable and provided for all of our needs, although these were limited, during our 3-day visit. Furnishings and decor were a time capsule from the 1980’s and the harsh seaside weather has created some exterior maintenance issues. However, this did not diminish a very enjoyable weekend getaway for my wife and I.
The house was great. The location was great. The weather was good almost every day. We used to live on the Oregon coast and miss it
It's always good to visit again.
First time using a VRBO. Great experience! The views were beautiful and beach access was easy enough. This older home could use some updates, but very comfortable and had everything we needed. Would certainly rent it again.
We have never stayed at the southern coast and thought to give it a try. Really beautiful from Bandon to Brookings.

After arrival we’re notified by means of a note card that the beach access was actually from the neighboring property, not from Salty Dog.
There also was dog hair on the bedspreads.
One of the best coastal vacation homes we’ve ever experienced! Panoramic views of the ocean, comfortable, cozy accommodations, and an all around fantastic stay. David made our stay special and went above and beyond to look after us. Thank you for providing the tide charts/tide tables for the duration of our visit- it helped us time our countless walks on the beach accordingly, (while also keeping our family safe). We look forward to booking with David in the future! Thanks again!
We loved our stay at this little beach oasis. The house was warm and lit up when we arrived- to a box of chocolates and a Christmas card no less!!! The place was just perfect for a beach stay- right on the ocean! The master bed was very comfortable. I’m so glad that the house wasn’t all fancy- it’s just what you would want for the beach! Communication with David was super easy! We will be back for sure!
We had a wonderful Christmas vacation trip to this property. Storm watching on the Oregon coast is magnificent, and this property gives you a front row seat, watching sea lions in the surf and sea birds navigating the wind. The house is clean and festive. Access to the beach is easy with a private trail and stairs. The door to the deck is a little sticky and the water in hot tub was a little yellow with debris but overall, we have no complaints. The Christmas decorations and gift added a great touch. We use VRBO often, and you never know what you will get until arrival. We highly recommend this property to our friends and family.
