Excellent location for hiking and kayaking
We used this cottage as a home base for lots of hiking in the area. We enjoyed kayaking in the bay. We used the fire pit two nights and had s'mores. A rustic retreat.

Quick 5 Day Retreat w/ Family
Overall the property met our needs but there were positives and negatives. The house had amenities and with prior communication with the owners, we brought what we needed (electric skillet, muffin pan, and glass 13x9 pan for example). The bedrooms were clean and enough for their purpose. The backyard was nice and the area was quiet. We enjoyed the fire pit and visiting birds. The selection of games was nice. My husband and I ended up buying the game Rumikub because we enjoyed it so much. Great beach nearby! Really nice historical town within 7 minutes drive. The cushions outside were soaking wet and we could not use them for 2 days as we waited for them to dry inside the house. This was annoying because I wanted to sit on the deck, comfortably. Also, there is no mirror in the bathroom (why?... You could put one on the back door) and only one useable mirror in one of the bedrooms that had to be shared. Some of us got poison ivy from the poison ivy that grows right where you get in and out of the car on the parking pad. We saw it, obviously late. That really put a damper on things :(. I feel like that was unnecessary and very preventable. When your unloading cars, your not expecting that on the parking spots.. in the wooded or weed areas, yes. Strip of woods were 20' away. I felt that these 3 significant things were avoidable and fair to state here. There was an air conditioner, but it was not nearly strong enough for the cabin. Hard to sleep in the bedrooms being so hot

Nice cottage for Fourth of July trip
My family enjoyed our stay during our Fourth of July trip to Port Bay. The kayaks and pedal boat were a lot of fun and we appreciated the s’more supplies the host left for us, too. Thanks for sharing your cottage with us!

An Excellent Relaxing Stay!
The property was great, and the hosts were wonderful. The back of the cottage overlooks a channel of Port Bay. We spent a lot of time on the deck birdwatching there were several white swans that nest right in that area, so it was very entertaining. Played the golf course three minutes up the road most every morning and we will certainly be there to visit again in the future. Thank you!

About the host

Hosted by Christie Baglio

Host profile image
Christie & Nick found this cottage to have adventures with their family and allow other families to enjoy this gem. Our family is from nearby Rochester, NY. We have three boys that keep us busy between school activities and sports. Our family enjoys getting outdoors- hiking, swimming, kayaking, boating, fishing, etc. We also enjoy traveling, movies, and art.

Why they chose this property

Our family purchased this property in June 2018. We fell in love with the location on the water along with the privacy this property offers, including that feeling of serenity our cozy cottage brings to us. Our boys have fun playing in the spacious yard and marsh area, going out on the boat to explore the shores of Lake Ontario and finding new swimming spots and beaches in the area. We enjoy fishing from the dock and in the bay, roasting marshmallows around the fire, and viewing the many birds (cranes, swans, geese), frogs, beaver, and other creatures that wander by. We know our family (and yours!) will make plenty of memories here.

What makes this property unique

We are happy to be on a quiet river outlet of Port Bay, so we can boat, kayak, fish, enjoy s’mores by the fire, sip coffee on the deck, catch lightening bugs, and still have a quiet, private experience. The cottage is an hour away from where we live, so it is an ideal location to feel away from it all but also not too far, either!
