Chinook Bear

Unique newly built one bedroom cabin in East Talkeetna near Talkeetna airport. A full size kitchen will give you the comforts of food and warm place to enjoy some relaxing time by the gas fireplace. Coffee and tea, hot cocoa and are provided for anytime you like. Walk 10 to 15 minutes or drive a few minutes to downtown restaurants and music. All close and convenient are the air taxis, Talkeetna taxi, riverboat and Alaska Railroad. We are midway to Denali in just a 2.5 hour drive north.
Stop and enjoy our Denali view by river boat or ski plane, train or car. Great trail system for hiking many areas in Talkeetna. Just ask!

Wonderful

Cool Cabin!

Enjoyed our stay at the Bear. Beautifully furnished. Everything looks brand new. It's very clean and well appointed. It seems much larger than it actually is. We would definitely stay here again.

Lovely cozy cabin

We found this cozy little two-story cabin to be clean and welcoming. The upstairs bedroom is spacious, with seating to enjoy one’s morning coffee and a view of trees, trees, trees. The downstairs has a small kitchen and a sofa with an easy chair and a gas stove. Everything was new-ish and very clean. It’s about a two-minute drive from Talkeetna downtown, and Mahayana Boat Launch is minutes away. The neighborhood is typical “Alaska,” meaning there is a mix of homes here - some tidy and well-kept and others not so much. The cabin is right near the air taxi field, so lots of planes taking off. We weren’t too bothered by the noise. Yummy food at the Alaskan Lodge, along with great views! Denali Brewing Company, on the Spur Road, was a wonderful diversion. Talkeetna is 2 1/2 hours from Denali, so that’s a plus. We took a jet boat tour with Mahay’s, which was excellent. Be prepared for the Alaskan mosquitoes in July!

Cute Cabin

My husband and I stayed in the neighboring cabin before and liked it, so we booked again. This time we came with another couple, as the cabin sleeps up to five. From the photos, the bedroom layout was a little confusing. The upstairs has a large bed AND a small sofa that can sleep one additional person in the same room. Downstairs has a pull out couch that sleeps two, but when it’s pulled out there is no room to move around the downstairs area between the kitchen and bathroom. The cabin is tight quarters for four adults, but perfect for a couple. Though the overall cleaning seemed pretty good, but there were a few minor things that could have been cleaned better. Someone squashed a mosquito on the wall and left it there. Coffee grounds/filter were still in the pot and there were no filters to be found. We found a long black hair on the toilet and a few more on the floor and water bottle cap in the window. Minor nitpicking, to be honest. You will hear trains from this location, but that might just be Talkeetna in general. The mosquitos are plentiful in Talkeetna in late June, so you need to close the door quickly and bring repellent. These cabins are conveniently located in a small neighborhood just outside Talkeetna near an airstrip (but we didn’t hear planes). We had a moose just outside our door. The kitchen is well equipped (minus the coffee filters). All things said, I/we would stay here again and recommend it to friends.

We had a great stay at the Chinook Bear. The place was very clean, tidy, and had everything that we could have asked for. Only a mile away from the town center, it made for an easy walk or very fast drive. We would definitely stay again!

It was set in a quiet location. We appreciated the cleanliness and secluded setting. It was still very close to downtown Talkeetna so you had lots of options of what to do based on the weather.

Luxurious Stay

Beautiful house with wonderful amenities! Very comfortable for our family of 4, with 2 in the bed, one on the couch, and one in the pullout sleeper seat. Nice to have 2 bathrooms. Pretty lighting, shades, opening windows on quiet street, near airstrip. Several extras available such as hot chocolate, tea, coffee, games, cards, shower and sink soaps, plenty of blankets, pillows, and towels. Wifi worked well (except when power went out). Loved it and would stay again!

Talkeetna getaway

A friend and I spent a night at the Chinook Bear during a girls trip. The cottage is was immaculately clean, well stocked with the essentials and had great touches with furnishings/artwork. The downstairs futon, when open, does encroach into the path between the stairs and the door, so while you could accommodate 5, it's probably best for a couple of friends or a family with one child. Hosts were very responsive to messages.

Best vacation rental ever!

We absolutely loved this vacation rental! The quality of the craftsmanship, the layout, the amenities, everything was top notch. We wish we could have stayed longer. We didn't know if our son was going to drive up from Anchorage. He ended up being able to get away with his girlfriend. Plenty of room for four with the fold out couch and two bathrooms. We can't say enough positive comments about this home. Highly recommend!

Great cabin!

Really enjoyed staying at this cabin during our visit to Talkeetna. It was convenient to get to, comfy, and had all the needed amenities including a spot to sit and eat for breakfast. The only things we had trouble with were the stairs leading up to the bedroom - they were very narrow and steep, and the shower in the main bathroom was tiny and hard to navigate without soaking the bathroom walls and floor. Otherwise, we had a great stay!
