About this property
Quiet, Elegant & Cozy -- 4 Miles from Downtown
This is a Jonathan's home, and he's built and stocked it with thought and care as a place to reflect, commune, and heal. In this quiet forest, all you hear is the occasional train, bushplane, or dog. The most special moments happen with a fire in the wood stove, loved ones gathering, Alaskan salmon, and a glass of nice wine. There is a TV, but not in any of the main spaces. This is a home to enjoy your time with one another, and then explore the town of Talkeetna.
The house is made for 4 people, and could sleep a 5th if you don't mind the couch. The main space feels very communal, and the downstairs centers around the woodstove. The best moments always include a fire.
The living room features a hand painted mural by Jonathan's friend Maiko, and you'll find local and hand-selected art throughout the house. The house always seems to create opportunities to share and talk, and every space is designed as its own experience. It can be hard to get away from everyone. This is why the master bedroom and the porches are great, because you can shut the door and arrive in your own Alaskan world. This is a home to spend time with friends & family, and not to expect perfect privacy.
The upstairs is a semi-loft with built in twin bed nooks, and it's own bathroom with shower. It also features blackout shades and the only TV. It's great for kids or guests.
This house was built by a local builder/designer in 2006 - a traditional Alaskan 2x6 construction for warmth, but with many unexpected turns. It has a unique layout with doors in all four directions, which creates a feeling of being open and almost breezy. The social environment often feels connected, permeable, and very warm. It's an inviting space.
The decoration and supply of the house is full of care, from Jonathan's hand-made birch benches, the selection of Alaskan books, very well stocked kitchen, hand cut birch & spruce firewood, or epsom salts waiting next to the jet tub. Jonathan created this place to feel simultaneously like his home, AND your temporary home, and we hope you love it as he does.
You will have the whole house, but not the garage.
Scherri will handle your booking via the chat, or by phone as needed.
The houseis in a quiet residential neighborhood of nearly all full-time residents, and it's only a quick ride to restaurants, bars, live music, bakery, dispensary, art gallery, and shops &activities.
The house has off-street parking. Cars are ideal, and bikes are available (helmets not provided).
NOTE: A security deposit of $250 will be pre-authorized on your card, from your day of arrival until 3 days after departure, in addition to booking fee.

About the host
Hosted by Jonathan

Jonathan relocated from Portland, Oregon to take part in the wilderness, community, and inspiration of Alaska. He created this home to call his base, and is happy to offer it to visitors. If you are staying in the house, he is probably fishing, hiking, skiing, or hunting somewhere.
Scherri takes care of things most of the time. She lives in Trapper Creek.
Why they chose this property
The neighborhood is a quiet forest of birch and spruce with mostly full time residents. From the main road, it's 2 miles to the Flying Squirrel bakery (wood fired pizza on weekends and excellent pastry), and 4 miles to downtown Talkeetna. There is a paved bike path the whole way.
This neighborhood provides a quiet place to get away and calm down after a day exploring the big town of Talkeetna.
What makes this property unique
This property has a beautiful feel to it. The center of the house features the wood stove -- the metaphorical heart of the house. Nothing is ever quite complete without a fire in the stove, and we provide the firewood. The main living area curls around with twists and turns, and yet still feels surprisingly open.
The walls are covered with art, lots of it is made by local artists. You will find birch bark baskets and a homemade hatchet made in town. Many of the artists are featured in the area, alongside history and meaning from Jonathan's family.
