About this property

Waterfront Family Retreat near Gig Harbor

This three building property is located on Rocky Bay, a beach which offers a multitude of activity options, including floating, fishing, clamming, beach-combing and swimming in some of the warmest waters of Puget Sound. Close to additional amenities, including kayak and boat rentals in nearby Allyn, hiking on the Olympic Peninsula, and proximity to the activities afforded in Gig Harbor and Tacoma - a short drive away.

The three cabins offer privacy, while also affording the ability to congregate, providing an ideal setting for multiple families, including pets, to enjoy a relaxing vacation together.

One building, "Kingfisher", has two bedrooms and a bathroom. "Blue Heron" has a bedroom, a double futon in the living area, and bunk beds at the base of the lighthouse tower, which is separated by double doors. Additional sleeping is available on tri-fold mats in the loft of the building, as well as the lighthouse tower. The lighthouse has been known to strike the imaginations of the young and old who visit there.

The main cabin, (the "Cabana") is an open-concept living area with great water views and a cozy fireplace. A perfect all-weather setting for family gatherings inside or out. The dining table easily seats 6, and can be expanded to seat 10.

We are excited to share this gem that we have enjoyed for generations, and invite you to explore all that it has to offer.

It was truly a heavenly place. Perfect, the separate quarters for different groups of the family, and the happy central living area where we came together...it felt so relaxing, and was truly the perfect way to enjoy this wonderful part of Puget Sound. Peaceful and quiet, with everything we needed. Can't speak highly enough of the experience. Marcia was so helpful and welcoming. We felt like family guests!

My family and I had such a lovely stay here. The separate houses were perfect for some privacy, and having beach access was simply magical. The hosts were very responsive and provided a well-stocked kitchen, bbq, chairs, towels, and beach toys to use. We would definitely stay here again!

Great Stay in Gig Harbor

We had a great stay. The cabana was a great place for people to gather and an efficient place to prepare meals. The layout allowed us to comfortably slept 9. Additionally, we used the firepit, which functioned well. We did a little clean up ourselves prior to our gathering on Saturday. Other than that, an excellent stay. We have recommended this location to several friends already.

Beautiful property with a wonderful host

Relaxing and beautiful. Doug was a great host and quickly fixed an issue we had. Our only concern was it felt like the last clean was a few weeks prior, we found more dust and cobwebs than what were normally used to on VRBO.

Geat Extended Weekend

Loved the layout of the property - three cabins. 2 for bedrooms, and 1 for kitchen and hanging out. Nice access to the water via rock wall steps. Younger children will need help. Adults and dogs - no problem. Rocky Bay is very interesting to explore at low tides. Kids want to visit again and this is close enough to Seattle that it would work for a normal 2-day weekend.

Nice beach house

The view is beautiful from inside and outside the house. We particularly enjoyed taking the 2 provided kayaks on the sound. The beds were soft and comfortable, the area was calm/quiet. Doug responded very quickly to any question we had. The only thing that makes me give an overall 4 stars, and not 5, is the cleanliness. The 3 cabins had more dust and cobwebs than we liked, and all the outside furniture (fire pit table, picnic table and chairs) need to be cleaned.

Wonderful for 2 families

We stayed for 1week during the Summer with 2 families - each with young children (between 4 to 9 y.o.). The separate buildings are a perfect set up with either family having private areas, but still feeling like there was a natural flow to the communal areas to socialize and otherwise lounge around. The children made frequent use of the watchtower area - which gave space to us parents even with them being right by! Direct beach access with water that actually warms during the summer! There was no part of the day when someone wasn't at the shore - either wading to look at sealife at low tide or swimming and kayaking as the water came up. We brought our own multi person kayaks for kids to come out on the ocean, the 2 provided kayaks are 1person only. Overall, it definitely seems that this is a property designed practically by family people who wanted to live and enjoy the location with children around. We had an amazing stay.

Annual Family Visit

We looked for a place that could accommodate our 3 adult children and families on the Puget Sound waterfront. 9 of us in all with plenty of space for more. This is the perfect place for it. Ample space to spread out or hang together as desired. There are 3 separate buildings but all just steps away from each other. We weren't sure how that would be but turned out to be absolutely perfect. Extremely well equipped kitchen and lots of fun indoor and outdoor activities. The hosts communicated along the way and made us feel very welcome and comfortable. This right on the water so we spent a lot of time on the outside patio and walking the rocky shore collecting and observing the myriad of open creatures. If you've ever wanted to see live sand dollars this is the place with thousands of them. I couldn't recommend this place more. Absolutely gorgeous views and spectacular sunsets! You won't be disappointed!

What a month!

Such a Great time at the cabins. My dogs really enjoyed it! Such a spot on location and it is a good vibe all around. Lgbt+ friendly area which made it more comfortable for us all around. The 3 things I would Upgrade - the beds. I sadly hurt My back sleeping in them for so long as they’re A bit older. Nothing crazy and had to see a massage person but it s a simple fix. - air filter system in the Kings fisher cabin as we couldn’t stay in there cause of the mildew smell. I think it’s only cause of the attic that doesn’t have property air flow.( guests don’t have access to attic ) a bigger couch or two in the living rooms of both cabins with a TV. I am 6’6 so I couldn't Really lay down much in the living room on those rainy days . Would love to suggest some super inexpensive products and companies to solve all the above very effectively! Other than that we LOVED the place. And we will be returning with friends and family!

Serene and beautiful location. Unique property with most amenities you’d need.

Such a unique little gem! Serene and natural setting. You can hear the road but during quiet times of day all you hear is the wind water and birds. Each building looks out on the bay through big lovely windows and the mornings and evening views are phenomenal. The accommodation is divided between 3 buildings so be prepared to go outside to get from living space to 2 separate sleeping spaces. The little lighthouse tower was really fun for our daughter. The living spaces are well appointed and mattresses on the beds are very soft. If this Isn’t for you there is a nice futon for sleeping that is firmer. Outdoors there is a fire pit and a gas fire table as well as 2 kayaks and lots of great seating. The tides are very high/low so it’s amazing to see the birds and walk the shore to pick up shells. We even has a few fresh oysters! The living/kitchen cabin could use better seating for relaxation and conversation- maybe a small sectional with a coffee table? ( no place to set down a cup in living room) The owner said the sofa was being reapholstered so maybe it will do the trick for comfort. The wicker chairs are cute but rigid not very comfortable. There is one recliner by the window but a gathering place of comfy seating by the fire place would help. The kitchen is well equipped though the large burner on the stove needs a fix as it’s bent on a significant angle. Everything is in great working order and there is a nice gas bbq outside as well. WiFi would be a logical addition as the cell service is pretty week. The owners could drop the day tv services and just go to WiFi as people really do use it more than ever. Just a great spot- highly recommended! Thanks so much to Marcia and family for sharing this treasure!

We appreciate this thoughtful review. As we are brand new to listing our property, we are definitely a work in progress, and welcome feedback.and suggestions. We are in the process of addressing the Wifi issue, and hope to have it resolved shortly. The review was correct in that the sofa is being re-upholstered, and we have another rocking chair that we are re-covering, as well. We will also look into options for surfaces - whether coffee table or otherwise, and address the issue with the stove. Our thanks to the reviewer for taking the time to give us this valuable input.

We had a wonderful stay at this unique property! The location was beautiful! It was fantastic that our dogs were also able to enjoy this vacation as well. Thank you for sharing your family home with us.

Soothing Get Away

Our family gathered in this beautiful location. First time for all on the Puget Sound. We enjoyed the sounds and beauty of nature in a private setting. The common area was used constantly by all and really set up a atmosphere of a family gathering. The kitchen was excellently equipped. The sleeping buildings served our purpose of having some privacy. We all loved using the kayaks right off the patio into the sound. It truly is a comfortable, warm and kid friendly place.

Think of it as a cabin, not a house

Overall this is a cozy little cabin. It is three buildings, each have a bathroom. The cabana has the kitchen in it. We lost power, due to a storm one day, which, since the water is on a well and uses power, no power means no water also. It came back on a few hours later. On another day, the water pressure ONLY went out, no storm, we had to call the owner who called a plumber who was asking me questions I couldn't answer (bc I am the renter) so I had to get the owner on the phone and act as a liaison, which made no sense. The owner should have been there on site?! The owner said they had DSL only, but actually, they DO have wi-fi. (We found out after we got up there) It's NOT the fastest but it accommodated a laptop and 7 phones. Some things need to be addressed: 1. Drawers in the kitchen are dirty and some of the utensils, serving spoons, tongs etc, need to be replaced, as they are broken or very rusty. I even bought new pot holders for them bc theirs were ripped and no idea why they weren't in the trash?! 2. Better more thoroughly cleaned, my niece found old hard dog poop under bunk bed. 3. The Blue Heron building has a MAJOR window leak, it was dripping a lot in multiple places and you can see the water damage on the outside as well. (It was spring, so rained a lot) 4. The outside door lock to cabanna is broken, when we got there, it was open. we thought it was just unlocked, but it's actually broken, so we had to figure out a way to secure it at night. It's a nice cozy cabin feeling, just a tad cleaner would feel more comfortable.

Thank you for your review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay at our property. We are sorry you faced some unanticipated issues during your time there, and were unable to address them directly as we were out of state. We hope that you understand that we did what we could by immediately contacting the plumber, and thank you for doing what you could to participate in solving the problem. I'm also sorry for the misunderstanding about the Internet coverage, as we do have WiFi - it's just not up to many people's standards. We are addressing the cleaning and other issues with those we have enlisted to help us in our absence from the area. Your feedback on the issues you faced will help us do better.

Best vacation so far.

We had a great time. The consensus was this was the best vacation so far. My daughter’s families and I like to take family vacations and this home was perfect. Two separate buildings so each family had their own building for sleeping and we could all get together for meals, games, etc in the main building. The beach was fun and my dog even had fun playing in the water. Lots of clams and marine life for the kids. The Kingfisher building was a little musty. Unfortunately we probably will not be staying here again because of Vrbo. We had an issue with Vrbo and their solution was for me to ask the home owner to provide a discount which would not be fair to either the home owner or me. I wish I had read the reviews on Vrbo first. Oh well live and learn. Other than Vrbo this is a great place to stay.
