About this property
Historic Home in The Elmwood Village: Eco-friendly and Fragrance Free.
Our historic home is in the lovely Elmwood Village and also on Buffalo Olmsted Parkway land. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. It is perfect for 1 or a group of 13/14. We offer bikes, running paths, a workout gym and a lovely front porch and back patio. We are also an "eco-friendly" home and use all non toxic cleaning supplies and all beds are made with organic or natural materials. No “fragrance” is ever used in our home.
We are walking distance to a lot of restaurants, shops, museums, universities, art galleries and parks. Many great walking and running paths nearby. There is plenty of free parking available.
Downtown Buffalo and Canalside are 3 miles away and Niagara Falls is about a 20-25 minute drive. We also can recommend a beautiful drive along the river to the Falls. (You will need your passport for this drive.)The Elmwood Village is a quaint area full of shops, restaurants, museums, and parks. Everything in the neighborhood is walking distance.
Our Historic Home was built in 1906 on land surrounded by landscaped circles, parkways and avenues that lead to open public parks. Soldiers Place is one of Olmsted's circles with a center median and broad parkways radiating from it. The streets surrounding Soldiers were named for Civil War Heroes: General Bidwell, Chapin and Lincoln. It is a Georgian inspired Colonial Revival style with a cross gable roof. The front porch has iconic columns supporting clapboard, and a leaded glass window. The inside has been primarily restored to its original form with all of the wood being stripped and preserved. Most the woodwork is quarter sawn oak. The restoration we did was featured on HGTV, Restore America. The house is over 100 years old and in a very historic area of Buffalo along with a Frank Lloyd Wright house across the street. Our home and all the houses in the neighborhood have a great story behind them.

About the host
Hosted by Therese Forton-Barnes

Therese has her own events planning company in Buffalo for over 33 years and can guide guests to almost any great restaurant, tourist attraction and has connections at many places. Tom is in commercial real estate, and loves to cook!. They both love the City and know the surrounding area very well. Therese is an avid Buffalo Bills and Sabres fan, so if you are coming in for a game, she can direct you in the right direction for whatever you should need. (She has planned events for Jim Kelly for over 31 years and her brother is a scout for the Sabres.) Tom and Therese love to cook, exercise, garden, sip wine and be with their dog Murphy as much as possible! If you are coming in for a Buffalo Bills game, Therese has a tail gate party for every home game at the infamous Big Tree Inn and you are more than welcomed to join in on the festivities.
Why they chose this property
