About the host
Hosted by KELLY

We love to travel! We have been to most of the National Parks in Colorado, Wyoming and Utah, many more than once. (All our 3 children know how to set up a tent and start a fire.)
We have lived in Colorado for 30 years, and are still amazed by all there is to do here.
When we come to your town, we stay in vacation homes too, so we want you to feel at home. Welcome to Lafayette, Colorado!
If you need any ideas about where to eat, or what to do, just ask! We are happy to be your hosts.

Why they chose this property
Its right in the middle of it all! Lafayette is the host of many festivals and events throughout the year, and this house is walking distance from most of it. Its 3 blocks to Public road where most of the festivals and trendy restaurants are, or 2 blocks North to Historic Simpson Street for morning coffee, afternoon microbrew, farmers market and sometimes live music as well.
Lafayette's closest neighbor is Louisville, where there is another fine selection of restaurants and shops to explore.
AND... we are also close to Boulder and Denver and Longmont and Fort Collins and the ski towns and ... well we also like all the National Parks in Colorado and Wyoming and Utah. (Its never ending.)
A short drive takes you to several malls or to a hike up the Flatirons, Estes Park, or downtown Denver. RTD picks you up on Public if you don't want to drive. Its affordable and safe and goes lots of places. (I like to take a day trip to Nederland and take the kids to the Rock and gem shop and have a ride on the Carousel of Happiness, and go to the local health food store for really healthy yummy cookies.)
This property is unique. You may never see another like it. We fell in love with it when we saw it. A plaster craftsman in the 50's did his best work here, and the cove plaster ceilings are a work of art. This house has a sizable kitchen, a nice back yard, sun porch, generous rooms, and is centrally located. The neighbors are friendly and the vibe is cool.

What makes this property unique
About 20 years ago, Lafayette's City Council started transforming the Old town area. We have seen Lafayette change from a funky little backward town into a very popular place to visit.
About the same time, we bought this house and started transforming it as well. Updated wiring and plumbing, a new front porch, add a bathroom, update the kitchen, refinish the floors, paint the rooms with Martha Stewart colors! Fence, yard, sidewalks, patio... Whew! A lot of work but its worth it. The house has a lot of charm and we enjoy making it shine.
Meanwhile, Lafayette moved Hwy 287 away from downtown, slowed the flow of traffic by narrowing Public Road and adding stop signs, put in street lamps and flag stone sidewalks. Then they started hosting festivals and encouraged small businesses to come here. Whew! Years of work... but that was worth it too!
Lafayette now is a destination for not only good Mexican food (we have always had that) but also for microbrews, chicken and waffles (The Post), Thai, Pho, Chinese, Farm to Table (Community), and even breakfast (Like at Tangerine down the street). We have Starbucks, but also a variety of local barista coffee shops as well as microbrew pubs. Live music and Open Mikes abound, and we have a Rec Center, a brand new outdoor water park, ice cream, and even our own chocolate shop and apothecary. All within walking distance, and a its a nice walk...
The neighborhood has always been friendly, but it is also beautiful. So many of my neighbors have also renovated their houses and yards, that now it is really fun to just walk about and see the murals and the flowers and the landscapes and the fresh paint jobs... on the way to breakfast or coffee or the Peach festival or Farmers' Market. Its a great place to be. Come share it with us!
