About this property
Views of Grand Lake, Shadow Mountain Lake and RMNP!
Come enjoy the extraordinary beauty and warm friendliness of Grand Lake, Colorado with its abundance of Summer and Winter activities! Built in 2006, this well-appointed 2000+ sq ft home is centrally located. It is just above the very charming Grand Lake Town with its old west buildings, boarded sidewalks and friendly residents. It is adjacent to the historic Grand Lake Lodge property, which provides for a peaceful mountain retreat and open space behind the home.
From the gorgeous great room with hand-built, river rock fireplace, or spacious deck, savor the beauty of majestic Mount Baldy and sparkling views of Shadow Mountain Lake and Grand Lake! Take in the starry sky on a warm summer night while relaxing on the deck. Watch the best fireworks in the Rocky Mountains from the deck on the 4th of July or New Year’s Eve. In the winter when road snow pack allows, hop on your snowmobile right outside the door and ride into town or hook up with a trail into Rocky Mountain National Park. There are so many things to do and memories to make in Colorado’s best-kept secret!
Grand Lake Village and Grand Lake are within easy walking distance at less than one half mile away. Shadow Mountain Lake is less than one mile away. You’ll have easy access to over 100 miles of groomed snowmobile trails, enjoy the lakes, shop, and eat in town. Lake Granby is just a few miles down the road.
The West entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park is 2 miles away. There you may encounter moose, big horn sheep, or elk herds. Hike to lakes, climb peaks, or simply enjoy the views. Incredible Colorado skiing is nearby with Ski Grandby Ranch only twenty minutes away; Colorado’s playground - Winter Park Ski Resort and Mary Jane only forty minutes away; and Steamboat Ski Resort, with its legendary champagne powder is a little over an hour away!
Note: VRBO groups search results for Estes Park and Grand Lake together. This home is in Grand Lake on the West side of RMNP. Estes Park is at the East entrance of RMNP, about 50miles from Grand Lake via the famous Trail Ridge Road through the National Park. When the road is open (typically Memorial Day to Labor Day, or into October if weather allows), the drive will take about 2.5 hrs with stops for sight seeing and Park traffic. In winter, the drive between Estes Park and Grand Lake is about 150 miles and 3+ hrs as you must drive alternate (but faster) roads into the mountains (I-70 out of Denver, to Hwy 40 over Berthoud Pass to Grand County/Winter Park, to Hwy 34 and Grand Lake)
Notice: Home is monitored by a security camera that views the driveway and weather over Shadow Mountain Lake.

About the host
Hosted by Vandy Johnson

We are a fun-loving, active family with 4 boys. We love to get outside for adventurcizing and exploring. We work hard to keep our boys active, healthy and outside. We love to take the boys skiing, biking, boating, fishing, dirt biking, hiking, climbing, rafting, and so much more!
Why they chose this property
We decided beautiful Grand Lake was the perfect home base for our family. We have been to Grand Lake and the surrounding area many times over the years. We finally found the perfect cabin to fit our family, entertain friends, and share with visiting travelers. We can't wait to share it with you. We love being perched on the hill, the views are a reminder of how lucky we are to live and play in Colorado. It's an easy walk into town for our boys to find their friends, or for the family to go into town for a meal. When we bought the house we wanted to be able to walk into town but still have the peaceful serenity we enjoy with the empty space behind our home where we often see wildlife. Our backyard opens up to an unimproved area that is owned by Grand Lake Lodge. We have ~15 acres that separates us from the Lodge. It is less than a 1/2 mile walk down the hill into town. We think you’ll love the location. We've enjoyed being close to town but also enjoyed seeing moose, elk and deer in our own yard. We believe it's the perfect combination of lake/mountain views, close proximity to town and peaceful mountain serenity. It is true mountain lodging at its best.
What makes this property unique
Grand Lake is a year round destination. It is a wonderful community. During the summer you can enjoy boating on the 3 lakes, hiking or scenic drives through Rocky Mountain National Park, mountain biking, ATVs, 4th of July fireworks, parades, theater, fishing the headwaters of the Colorado River, and the list goes on. During the winter months Grand Lake is the snowmobiling capital of Colorado with over 100 miles of groomed trails. Skiing choices are numerous between the cozy Granby Ranch resort nearby, Colorado's play ground at Winter Park and Mary Jane, and legendary champagne powder of Steamboat Springs (we've skied it, champagne powder is a real thing!!). Many come to the area for hunting in the fall and ice fishing on the lakes in the heart of winter. Rocky Mountain National Park is renowned for its amazing scenery and abundance of wildlife. This cabin is less than a mile from the west Park boundary.
