This is a great place to relax, spread out and claim plenty of room for yourself. WaterWinds has a calm aesthetic with a large great room, and plenty of comfortable seating options. Fix your meals in our well stocked kitchen with gas range, better than eating out because you know exactly how it was prepared. Support our local fisherman and purchase fresh seafood locally or catch your own. Enjoy the scenery. Pods of dolphin can be seen swimming right off the bulkhead. Otter occasionally sun themselves on the Dock and banks. You will often see Bald head eagles, Osprey and all manner of sea birds from the large Sound side windows. Enjoy your coffee from the comfort of the great room while you experience the peace of the Albemarle Sound. Watch the Sunset and enjoy an outside fire in the brick firepit. Sit on the dock, or lay a blanket or yoga mat out and enjoy the sun. Explore the Sound by kayak, or wade out into the waist high water. Play pool, darts or ping pong in the downstairs games, sports room. Watch awestruck as waves break over the bulkhead during a storm. Walk to the little community park and play a game of tether ball or basketball. The boat ramp is right next to the park for your personal water craft.

The home features 3 bedrooms, all with water view, all queen size. Plenty of linens, water themed rooms with fluffy comforters and a couple of beach towels if you forget yours. 2 baths. The Primary bath has oversized shower. The hall bath has a tub.

There are also steps into the water for easy access and to get in and out of the kayaks.

Friendly neighbors will greet you as you walk about Holiday Island. Explore further with day trips to historic Hertford which has the oldest court house still in use. Take a step back in time and enjoy Steamers baseball in a wood stadiums with the original flip numbers, from bygone days. Then watch Bull Durham and see the similarities. Go to Edenton. Walk the town, go out on the docks and watch the boats and maybe get a boat tour of the Albemarle Sound. Take a motor trolley and get a history tour of Edenton. Learn the story of the lighthouse which was moved to its current site in Edenton. An hour and twenty minutes drive will see you to the Outer Banks for a day at the Atlantic Ocean. Kitty Hawk has a great area that is free to park and lifeguards on the beach and a excellent convenience area with showers. Walk to I've Got Your Crabs for fantastic seafood. When going through Elizabeth City stop by the Museum of the Albemarle for some history lessons. The museum is free of charge. Right across from the Museum is the Park with a scenic walk along the Water. Often you can watch sailing lessons and if you book ahead, take one yourself. On your way to the Outer Banks stop by H2OBX, a new WATER park with something for everyone. Then if you're ready for more history look up information on site X of the Lost colony, Interested in the story of Virginia Dare? The latest research says they moved inland 10 miles from Water Winds. Near site X is Bertie beach and see their plans for the future , take some fishing poles and enjoy the Water some more. Can't beat the view!

Perfect place for just staying in when weather wont allow or you just don't feel like going anywhere. Plenty of things to do right there whether it be watching a movie, riding a bike, or best yet, watching weather, birds, and any other surprises out the windows that span the whole sound side of the living room! Bring a really good pair of binoculars!

What a view!

My sisters and I were looking for a quiet, nicely appointed house with a water view and that's exactly what we got with WaterWinds! We enjoyed our view of the Albemarle Sound from the dock, the deck, and from the family room couch! The water was everything from wavy with white caps to calm and smooth as glass (with a great dolphin show!). Lots of birds to enjoy as well. Would recommend 100%!

A Peace of Paradise

Our 4th visit...We have now visited during December, July, September, and October the last several years. It's hard to say what our favorite is because each time we see and experience new things. The serenity you feel here is like no other place. We hope to come back each year as long as the hosts will allow.

Amazing!

This vacation home was big, clean, and beautifully decorated. The rental process was very easy with Beth. She emailed during our stay checking to make sure everything was going good. The area was so nice. Everyone is friendly. We loved learning the history of Edenton. We did the boat tour, trolley tour, and the lighthouse tour. We loved Hertford and Elizabeth City. The antique shops were very nice. The antique shop (Four Corners) in Tyner, NC is awesome.

Great Getaway

We felt at home from the moment we stepped into the house. All the small things like the basket of snacks, makeup removing cloths, hand written welcome note, etc were great touches! The view was amazing, crabs we caught were quite tasty , and the availability of bikes, kayaks, fishing poles etc made this a wonderful place to relax and refresh. The property managers were great to work with and very helpful in finding items we accidentally left behind. We cannot wait to find the time to return our newly found favorite spot!

Perfect family getaway!

My husband, our two youngest (both college students), our two small dogs and I had a perfect family getaway on the Albemarle Sound at Water Winds. The beautiful views from the great room definitely helped us relax and truly enjoy our stay whether we were cooking supper in the roomy kitchen, playing games on the sofa facing the wonderful view or watching the nesting Osprey from a side window. We enjoyed sitting on the pier, taking the kayaks out multiple times and taking a day trip to the Outer Banks. Being able to take our dogs with us was a huge plus. This was the perfect family getaway that we hope to use again in the future. Thank you Beth Younger for sharing your family's vacation home; we totally understand why it's your favorite place to be.

Stunning waterfront location!!

If you are looking for a gorgeous and breathtaking, quiet and secluded waterfront location in North Carolina, look no further. With 180+ degree views of the water, this house is so well appointed for whatever you could possibly need. The kitchen is huge and allows for multiple people, the bedrooms are also large and comfy and the two bedrooms on the Oceanside of the house have their own private sliding door to the deck which was perfect for my husband and I and our friends. We also cooked in a bunch and had everything we could possibly need to make amazing meals. We saw tons of wildlife, including monarch butterflies, many jumping fish, and even a sea otter! Just a perfect place and we couldn’t recommend it more. And to add to all of this, we were celebrating my 40th birthday and waiting for us when we arrived were flowers and a balloon to wish me a happy birthday. Just above and beyond!

Very nice for our two Frenchie's. Big yard. Lots of room to roam. Very nice and quiet. Traffic on the road was very light. not sure if a single vehicle went over 20 MPH. The fishing dock was great. The fishing ... not so much. Did manage to catch some Flounder, Catfish, Croaker, Skates etc. Great Kitchen! Plenty of storage space. Very clean. Would Highly recomend. Thanks Water Winds !!

Peaceful location

The house was everything we could wish for and more. There was plenty to do when the weather was rainy and more to do when we got some sunshine. The kitchen had everything we needed when we decided to make dinner at home one night or for bringing food in from local diners. The location was perfect for us that were looking for a low-key, relaxing location, but close enough to cities when we wanted to go do some touristy things. We loved the water views. We would definitely stay here again.

Five Weeks in Paradise…

Our second stay and it was just as great as the first. Tastefully furnished and decorated. Not a cookie cutter rental! Beautiful private waterfront location. The Osprey nest was active with mom and a baby. Five families of geese sailed by almost every day. Kayaking here is superb. The hosts are easy to reach and extremely helpful. I can’t wait to come again next year!

Another 10-Star stay!!!

Back again but for 5 weeks! Waterwinds is even more beautiful than I remember. Brand new deck, beautiful and comfortable furnishings. Fully equipped kitchen with all the amenities. Gorgeous private landscaped waterfront setting. Water on canal side is shallow enough for my 3 and 5 year old great granddaughters to swim. Will be booking next year for sure!

About the host

Hosted by Beth Younger

Host profile image
My husband and I undertook the journey of owning a vacation home a couple of years ago. He is a retired Fire Captain and I am a retired RN. We love horses and the water. Our second careers are teaching horseback riding in the Sandhills of North Carolina. We discovered the Inner Banks after my father bought his vacation home at Albemarle Sound. We would love for you to come and enjoy what we have found here and in the quaint shops and historic areas of Edenton and Hertford.

Why they chose this property

This home has one of the best views of Albemarle Sound at Holiday Island. We purchased it after it had been ravaged by multiple storms and needed a lot of TLC. The headboard in 2 of the bedrooms are salvaged wood from some of the storms. We love to reuse and re-purpose things. The stairs going down to the basement had no banister and no protection from falling right down the stairs. We used old tobacco barn poles and old doors from a torn down depression house to make it safe. We used drift wood for the railing. We have worked very hard so that each thing we have done means something to us, a memory of hard work or good times with family. The dining room table was made by my father in law from wood that came from his farm. Everything has a story.

What makes this property unique

We love looking at the water. We feel tranquil and more at peace. There was a fantastic Thunderstorm last month with a lightening show that went on for an hour that we watched from the great room windows. In Spring and Fall, we have the doors open at night and listen to the waves breaking against the bulkhead or sit out on the dock looking at the stars. Water Winds is a quiet place. The only noise you will hear are the birds and the fish jumping and an occasional boat going by.
