Discover the allure of Keene, nestled within the Adirondacks High Peaks region, in this comfortable four-bedroom getaway. Nestled just a 15-minute drive from the renowned Whiteface Mountain, 20 minutes from historic Lake Placid village, and serene Mirror Lake, this property offers the perfect base for your outdoor adventures.

As you arrive, you'll be greeted by the inviting porch, where you can sip your morning coffee and plan the day's activities as you listen to the East Branch of the Ausable River. Inside, the fully stocked kitchen, complete with a stove, oven, refrigerator, Weber grill, and all the necessary appliances, allows you to easily prepare delicious meals. Gather around the front porch or step outside to the fire pit and outdoor furniture for alfresco dining under the stars.

Originally constructed in 1840, this recently renovated home has pine siding interior, hardwood floors and rustic decor that complement the natural surroundings of the Adirondacks. Roam over five acres that include open meadows, a sunflower field, iconic barn, and pine forests, or stroll down to a secluded private beach on the East Branch of the Ausable River. A special feature of our property. New York State land directly across from the property protects the privacy of fishermen, swimmers and sunbathers.

When it's time to unwind after the days outdoor activities, cozy up by the wood stove in the living room and enjoy the cable TV, or challenge your family to a game night with the selection of games and toys provided. With the convenience of a washing machine and dryer, you can pack light and focus on making the most of your vacation.

Strip any used beds and gather used towels
Remove personal items, remove leftover food and drinks and take out the rubbish
Turn off the lights, lock the doors and return the keys
Throw used towels and stripped sheets in the rolling laundry basket.
Take the trash to the outside back garbage bins.
Unplug the appliances.
Failure to complete these may result in a negative review from the host.
Please ensure the beds are stripped; the dishes are washed; the kitchen & refrigerator is clean. Garbage should be put in bins behind house.
*The East Fork of the Ausable River can be very strong – please use caution with your children and you’re belongings when enjoying time at the River.

Oh my goodness! 10/10. I highly recommend this cozy cabin! Great location right by the river, wonderful local restaurants, close to Whiteface and Lake Placid area. This cabin had everything we needed plus some! It was nice to be able to use the wood stove when we got back from a long day of skiing. The beds could not have been more comfortable! The communication was excellent. There is so much to do in this area! We hope to come back and do some of the amazing hiking trails. There were so many games at the cabin for our boys to play! Our stay could not have been any better!

Location can’t be beat. Great hiking and swimming close by and a beautiful drive to Lake Placid for more activities. The property has an incredible beach and fire pit. The house has everything you need including a washer and dryer for cleaning off clothes after big adventures. We loved our visit.

Incredible place to stay!

We had a wonderful time staying at the river house. The river is beautiful and fun to relax by and play in. The location is perfect.. within easy range of a bunch of great hikes, swimming holes, and Lake Placid. We enjoyed making s’mores and star gazing. We did some cooking and grilling and had everything we needed. We would definitely stay here again!

Gorgeous Home with River Access!

Everything was perfect for our stay at the River House. We found the address easily and check in was no problem. The house was clean and well stocked, and while there was no air conditioning, there were multiple fans that we used during our stay. The fire pit clearing across the road was awesome, and the river access was amazing! We spent so much time enjoying the river, floating on the provided inner tubes, and playing in the swimming hole. We might be back next year, we loved it so much! Highly recommended!

Great stay!

Our second Summer at the River House and it was just as wonderful as our first year. We've already booked a Fall weekend. The location is perfect for high peaks activities and the river is so relaxing.

Memorable stay at the Riverhouse

What a beautiful home! It was more spacious than we expected and filled with ADK character and charm. Everyone in our family loved hanging out by the Ausable, exploring the shore and tubing. A very special place!

Great time in Keene NY

We enjoyed our stay at the Riverhouse. Everything was as described. The location was perfect and the host was excellent at communication. We highly recommend this place - close to lots of hikes as well as Olympic sites/attraction in Lake Placid. The host provided us with lots ideas of things to do and places to eat.

Great peaceful getaway

Overall we were very happy with our stay. You can hear the river from the house and is a short walk to it. The house was cozy and perfect for the four of us. Awesome dark skies at night. Everyone in town was very nice. The food at the Ice jam inn and restaurant was the best we tried in the area.

Why they chose this property

Mark and I had been visiting the Adirondacks for years, spending time doing what we love to do when we aren't working: hiking; biking; skiing; kayaking; and paddling. We stayed at the River House our first summer as guests and fell in love with it. When we heard it was for sale we decided to take the plunge to have a place of our own... it has changed our lives. We want to continue to offer this magical property to other travelers to love and enjoy like we do.

What makes this property unique

Six miles to Whiteface Mountain. A private sandy beach on the river; fly fishing; hiking; biking; skiing...it's all at your front door. There is an outdoor shower to get the sand out of your toes after spending time on the beach or exercising in the high peaks.
