Great spot in the beautiful Maryland mountains right on the Savage River ... with a tremendous pool and great, deep runs footsteps from the back door. Still early with very cold water and sluggish, skittish fish. But still a great place for a fun and quiet Spring respite. Easy drive to all the Savage tributaries and great hikes. Couple of good restaurants down in Oakland. Fisherman, book this place!
The house was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. I loved that there were enough bedrooms for all my children to have their space. Also, the beds were comfortable. The kids loved the creek and the scenery was beautiful. Even though there is a house on each side, it was still very peaceful and quiet. The one tip I would give others is to know where you are going without gps because reception is spotty. We would definitely go again.
Four of us enjoyed a very relaxing and peaceful week in Rainbow cottage, sitting on the deck listening to the river and the birds and site seeing in the Deep Creek area. The house has everything you need, especially a very well equipped kitchen. Cell service is a little spotty and there is no internet in the house but that didn’t bother us- it was nice being “off the grid “- and there is WiFi in the shop next door if you absolutely need to connect. The house is very much “off the beaten path “ and the narrow and winding roads need to be navigated with care but you really are only about 20 minutes from Deep Creek Lake.
Mike couldn’t have been nicer and he was very responsive to our needs. We’re not fishermen but it looked like the fishing was good!
We were looking for a quiet and relaxed New Years not too far from home and this was the perfect house to do that! Everything we needed was there and the house was very clean. The are was secluded and the scenery was beautiful. Would definitely go back again for a getaway!
Excellent base “camp” for Savage River fishing adventure
Great host with fly fishing wisdom. Great cabin, just feet from the Savage River. 2.5 bathrooms for 4 bedrooms. Spacious living room, dining room , kitchen and basement apartment. Easy, clean and comfortable. Exceeds expectations. Access to Savage, North Branch of the Potomac, tributaries and reservoirs. Don’t count on fast internet. But isn’t that why you come to the Savage River., to catch difficult fish not watch YouTube videos about fishing.
We enjoyed the sound of the water. Very relaxing and soothing. Enjoyed gathering around the fire pit with the Savage River running through the back yard. Nice views of Savage River from the house. House well kept.
The Rainbow Cabin was excellent with an amazing trout pool in the backyard. Great way to experience the Savage River in comfort. The Fly Shop next store provided great information regarding the river as well as places to eat and visit in the area and you can book Charlie for personal lessons and guided trips. Outstanding experience, we'll be back in the fall to focus on casting on the Savage.
If you’re looking for a mountain/river/fishing escape in MD, look no further. Mike takes great care of these properties and is a fantastic host. This was our fourth annual trip and we plan to come back for many years to come.
My husband and I wanted to take a break from Working From Home! This was the perfect getaway! He went fly fishing every morning on the Savage River. We grilled at night and ate all our meals on the deck overlooking the river. Lots of chairs outside to enjoy the view, read, or nap! The house was spotless and had everything we needed for the week-fully stocked kitchen, clean towels, and a coffee maker! Most relaxing vacation we have ever had!
Great place to connect with nature, fish, and relax
Beautiful property in the woods backing up to the Savage River. Big back yard to play in and have campfires. If you like to fly fish, you can start wading the river from the house. Owner was very responsive, and Charlie at the fly shop was great and offers guiding and instruction tours for fly fishing.
Beautiful home in a lovely spot. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to fish the Savage. So close you can always be the fire on the river. Close to other beautiful sites like Swallow falls. The owner is next door and is very welcoming and helpful.
We stayed at the Rainbow with our 4 and 7 year old kids. We had a great time! We will definitely be back. The property was great, we fished, the kids caught crawfish in river behind the house and played in the large back yard. The firepit was great at night for hot dogs and smores. There was also a lot to do within minutes of the property. Charlie at the fly shop and Wendy were super helpful in giving us ideas on where to go and what to do. A+ Thanks to all for a wonderful trip!!
Just came back from the trip. We had a wonderful time. Kids already start to miss Rainbow, the house that we stayed for three days. All rooms are clean, kitchen is very well equipped, backyard is huge and direct to the River. It is the best spot for fishing. Staff are very friendly, responsive and helpful. Plenty of wood for bonfire, which may need a little techniques. Scenery is just beautiful. Will Highly recommend to my friends. Will come back in Fall.

Home away from home in a beautiful setting.
The house (chalet) we stayed in was comfortable and well cleaned, although it could be better maintained. The gentleman working there, Charlie, could not have been nicer, more helpful and thoughtful. We liked him tremendously. Of course the best thing about the house is that the Savage River runs right behind it. Few things are more relaxing than sitting on the deck overlooking the river. And we loved the sound of the river at night. Thank you, Charlie, for a wonderful stay.
