A lovely, well-maintained property - truly looks and feels like a home and not "just" a vacation rental. iThe location was ideal - very quiet and secluded feeling, yet an easy walk to the plaza.
An amazing property. Very comfortable and filled with artifacts, pottery and artwork. Authentic southwest style adobe home. Clean and comfortable. Walking distance to town. The courtyard is a bonus.
Beautiful home tucked into a cute neighborhood close to town but you still feel like you are in the mountains. Beautiful art inside the home. It was fun watching to prairie dogs while drinking coffee on the porch. My family of 5 adults had plenty of room.
The website didn’t describe how absolutely charming this was! We enjoyed coffee in the outside atrium every morning. The decor was appealing. The handmade pottery was lovely. We had a wonderful time.
My stay in The Adobe Potter's Haciendoh was one of thebest experiences that I've had!It was very clean and very well stocked. There is a beautiful full kitchen and everything you need to cook your meals. The bathrooms have more than enough toiletries and towels are plentiful. The antique furniture, artwork, pottery, and relics were simply amazing! The views were breathtaking. I loved sitting on the veranda in the morning enjoying my coffee. It is a very peaceful and tranquil stay. The Taos Plaza is only blocks away. Its a very nice walk and there are little shops , restaurants and history to see everywhere. Short drives take you to even more amazing adventures. The mountains are gorgeous and very fun to hike. The hosts, James and Monica, made sure that you have everything that you need. If you have any questions, the promptly get right back to you.I absolutely loved my stay. I brought friend with me and she wants to book it for her family for a future vacation. This vacation will not disappoint.
The extraordinary beauty of this home in Taos along with its peaceful setting and convenient location made it one of the best - if not THE best- VRBO experience I have ever had. The host's collection of art, pottery, artifacts and furniture were delightful to study and put to practical use. My travellibg companions and I took advantage of the patio are at night to gaze at stars and I enjoyed watching the prairie dogs each morning as I enjoyed coffee on the front porch. An added benefit was the discovery of Mabel Dodge Luhan's home/retreat at the end of the road ... it just seemed like a fortuitous place for us to land. The practical things ... cleanliness, communication, ease of access and amenities ... 5 star. If we ever return to Taos, we would love to stay again.
The house felt like a genuine Taos experience. It was truly lovely and enjoyable. The Hosts were extremely helpful and we hope to stay in their home again.
Very happy with the beautiful home’s accommodations. Like the close in, yet large property with quiet & privacy and feeling of abundance. Interesting artwork, ethnic collections and artifacts. Cozy yet light / bright and spacious vintage home, updated in all the best ways. Really enjoyed our stay here! Hosts are communicative and kind.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful home. We were touring, so we didn’t have much time to sit, but the available seating in the living room was a bit awkward for a conversation. Otherwise, a big thumbs up for this property.
Great property located close to Kit Carson Park and downtown Taos. Easy walk to galleries and restaurants. We welcomed the comfortable rooms with air conditioning. Clean spaces with interesting decor. The porches were nice to sit on outside in the cool evenings.
We loved everything about this house. So close to downtown Taos, yet a large outdoor space with beautiful views. Home was well-appointed, clean and comfortable. We enjoyed every moment.
Beautiful property, beautiful setting. Close to town, yet large private accommodations.

About the host
Hosted by James and Monica Smits
James & Monica Smits are the owners of Aspen Traders in Leadville, CO. Both of us grew up in Colorado and have fond memories of coming to Taos as children. We are inspired by the foods, fashion, arts & culture of Northern New Mexico. James has been a potter for over 40 years and continues to work gradually, focusing primarily on stoneware functional ware. Much of the work in the Taos hacienda kitchen is made by James. Monica puts her creative energy into designing our stores and living spaces. Color and light are her inspiration.
Why they chose this property
This house sits on a large lot near undeveloped Taos Pueblo lands so it is generally very quiet (unless there is a concert in Kit Carson Park, which is fun in a different way). You are close enough to walk to the Adobe Bar at the Taos Inn for their famous Margaritas and Free Live Music every night of the year (take a small flashlight, the lane can be dark). This property is only a block away from Mable Dodge Luhan house (Dennis Hopper's Mud Palace) where you might enjoy getting brunch (reservations required). My favorite aspect of the house is watching birds, bunnies and prairie dogs while the clouds float over the mountains all around.
