We’re disappointed to read this review, particularly because the guest acknowledges that they genuinely enjoyed the home and had even considered returning. Unfortunately, the negative experience described here relates entirely to a damage claim that arose after checkout, rather than the stay itself. For context, we personally occupied the home immediately before this reservation and returned immediately following the guest’s departure. In addition, our professional cleaning team inspects the property after every checkout specifically so that any damage or maintenance issues can be identified. The bathroom vanity was not damaged prior to this stay. Immediately following checkout, multiple raised and discolored marks were discovered on the vanity top. We contacted the guest to ask if they or anyone in their group knew what may have happened. They told us that they did not, and we respected their response. We did not accuse anyone of intentionally damaging the property. Because the damage was not present before the reservation and was discovered immediately following checkout, we followed VRBO’s established process and submitted a damage claim along with photographs and supporting documentation. We also contacted the manufacturer of the vanity for an independent assessment. After reviewing photographs of the damage, the manufacturer advised us in writing that the discoloration was consistent with the surface having been exposed to a significant amount of heat. Ultimately, the damaged vanity top needed to be replaced. The cost of the replacement and installation significantly exceeded the maximum amount covered through VRBO’s damage protection, so we personally absorbed the remaining cost. We provided VRBO with the replacement invoice and only pursued the amount permitted through the platform’s damage claim process. The guest disputed responsibility for the damage, and VRBO subsequently reviewed the claim and supporting documentation from both sides. After that review, VRBO ruled in our favor on the damage claim. We believe this is important context given that this review focuses almost entirely on the claim and suggests that it was unsupported. Every other review of our home has been 10/10, which we believe is a much more representative reflection of the experience we work hard to provide our guests. The guest acknowledges in this review that they genuinely enjoyed the home and had discussed returning. It is unfortunate that a post-stay dispute over damage, one that VRBO ultimately resolved in our favor, has shaped their overall review of an otherwise positive stay. We take tremendous pride in our home and work hard to provide every guest with a wonderful experience. We have hosted many guests without issue and would never pursue a damage claim casually. We also recognize that accidents can happen. Our only intention was to address documented damage through the appropriate VRBO process, which is exactly what we did.
