Life is better at the RIVER!--Cozy waterfront cottage

Located in quiet community of Galena, MD, this charming cottage is a river front property a step away from beauty of the Sassafras River-- a tributary of the Chesapeake Bay. Located adjacent to the owners' home, ‘Sassafras Cottage’, is a two-story 825 sq. ft. home including a combination living and dining rooms and a fully equipped kitchen. A gas grill outside provides additional options for meal preparation.

The cozy cottage has three bedrooms sleeping a maximum of 5. It is perfect for a family with children, but not ideal for 5 adults. The first floor master bedroom is spacious and furnished with a queen bed and dresser. It adjoins a private bath including bathtub/shower combination. The second floor has two bedrooms, one with view of the river. One bedroom is furnished with queen bed and second small bedroom has a twin. They share a full bath with shower. All linens are provided for your convenience.

Our cottage is cozy, comfortable, clean and welcoming. Our grounds are inviting and expansive with a glorious gift of the Sassafras. Take time to enjoy the patio, swing, boat house rooftop, fire pit, kayaks, and bikes. Pack your sneakers and take a walk in nature.
At the water’s edge you will find furniture scattered for relaxation and a large fire pit for your enjoyment. We have a small meditation garden perfect for early morning, afternoon tea or for a private space at sunset. In addition, you will have access to the boat house for additional seating and further enjoyment overlooking the river.

Kayaks and life vests for adults and children are available for use. Swimming and fishing are also welcomed at your own risk. Fishing requires local Kent County Maryland 7 Day Chesapeake Bay and Costal Sport license: $6 Resident of Maryland and $12 Non-resident. You may apply online at https:dnr.maryland.gov
This location is perfect equally for an active family outing or meditative space for one by the water. For an extra fee of $2 a foot you are welcome to dock your boat for overnight.

A beautiful cottage on the river. Every convenience, from a well supplied kitchen, to the use of a lovely boathouse deck and kayaks. We enjoyed our morning coffee down by the river. So peaceful!! Gene and Suzanne are so helpful with every aspect of the experience. Thank you.

Great view

We stayed for 2 days during our sons graduation from UD. The house was incredably clean and well maintained. We enjoyed the views of the river and were very pleased with the accomodations. Cant wait to come back when we have more time to spend relaxing.

We loved our stay. So relaxing and peaceful! Everything was actually better than we had hoped for.

Wonderful Time

Rest full stay with fantastic dock overlooking river. Met Suzanne and some of the family after they returned from fishing on the bay. Nice place for couple to relax.

Beautiful cottage

Great cottage on a beautiful property

Our family of 4 had a wonderful time at the cottage. We had a blast kayaking and swimming all day and campfire at night. Owners are very nice and welcoming. There were a lot of nice restaurants and things to do in the area. We will be back soon!

Very Comfortable Cottage

My wife and I spent 4 days at Sassy Cottage. We were in the area for a family wedding. Very clean, well stocked and supplied with nice linens and everything we needed to cook dinners Very efficient kitchen. We do not know when we will be back that way, but we would definitely book here again. Thanks to Gene and Suzanne.

Peaceful retreat

The house was as described. It is not large, but there was plenty of room for the 4 of us. It was very clean, the beds were comfortable, and the kitchen was well stocked. Very peaceful setting with great view of the river. We enjoyed sitting on the riverfront deck in the evening. Having the propane grill available was perfect for dinner by the water. We will definitely consider this property the next time we are in the area.

Perfect location for visiting relatives

Overall, our stay was good. We used it as a home base while different members went their own way. Check in was a bit difficult as the owners were unreachable, and cell phone service was terrible in front of the VRBO. Owners promptly took care of a sewer issue that occurred in the middle of our stay.

Slice of Heaven

This was a little slice of heaven. We came back to the Eastern Shore for a family reunion and found this lovely little spot. The house was clean and comfortable and the owners were so kind and generous. Would definitely recommend this as a couples or small family getaway looking for peace and quiet and a return to Nature. We would love to rent this again when we come back to the shore.

A relaxing get-away

The cottage is comfortable and nicely furnished. the owners answered questions promptly. Gene was extremely accommodating and helpful with the kayaks. There are several interesting and appealing places to visit nearby: Winterthur Gardens, the Massey Airplane Museum, Chestertown and a couple of lighthouses (limited open times). We feasted on oysters and crabcakes!

Ideal spot for rest and relaxation

Exceeded expectations and would stay there again! Check in process a breeze. Our hosts, Gene and Suzi, were on site and very welcoming. The cottage is cozy, as described, but well appointed, very comfortable for 4 adults and had everything we needed. The real draw is access to the Sassafras River by way of a deck overlooking the river, a dock, beach for swimming and kayaks at our disposal. Couldn't have been better! Laurie M.

Cute property

The cottage is small but nice and in a great location. Owners are so sweet. We used the dock in front of the main house to pick up and drop off family from our boat. You can dock over night for additional cost. It was tricky trying to keep A/C on throughout the night but once my father in law figured that out all the guest were very happy. We will be back!

Serenity on the river

We had a wonderful stay. Hosts Suzanne and Gene were warm and friendly, but were kind enough to leave us alone. The amenities were all as advertised, kitchen easy to work in, and there were some little extras, like really good flashlights. Even the next door neighbor joined in the welcome, asking us when he could mow his lawn without disturbing us! What a treat to sit on the deck, absorb the calm of flowing water, and enjoy the birds -- nearly a dozen great blue herons (mostly young) roosting on a snag across the river, a wood duck and at least 15 ducklings paddling around, and several ospreys. For us, it was the perfect getaway.

Small retreat

Property as described. It fit our needs and we appreciated the beautiful scenery and rustic surroundings. Hosts were responsive. The cottage sits directly outside of the main house so it was not as private as other locations, but hosts respected our space. We enjoyed the amazing riverside deck. Pretty views. Great communication from the host. We had 5 adults (2 couples and a single) and the main space was a bit tight but that was clearly described in the posting. We were happy as a clam and everyone was comfortable. It did not impact our enjoyment of the space and we would stay there again.

Family Wedding Visit - Jun 2023.

We came to the area for a wedding. One adult and two teenagers. Beautiful, serene area. Three bedrooms was perfect. Kayaks (that were shared with other units), large screen TV for evening movies, a nice area to sit with coffee in the mornings, and a beautiful neighborhood to walk. It was very quiet during the week and mostly quiet during the weekend. Place was clean with no weird odors. Cons: hard matress in master bedroom; no washer/dryer. Oh and watch for snakes in the water!
