Imagine sitting on your lanai watching the sunrise, ocean, and waves hitting the beach 75 FEET away! This is what a Hawaiian vacation is all about!

Welcome to "The Big Pono Aloha" our private condo at the Pono Kai Resort and your home away from home while you visit the beautiful area of Kappa Town on the Coconut Coast in beautiful Kauai.

"The Big Pono Aloha" has everything you need for the perfect stay. Aloha!. :) - This is Joel and Tamara and we are brand new owners of this wonderful condo which we have decided to call "The Big Pono Aloha".

A few years ago we stayed in this condo for a month and fell in love and as fate would have it we bought it! :)

Now we get to share our home with you! This has been an active vacation rental for years and now is under new ownership. So even though the VRBO listing is new, hundreds of satisfied guests have enjoyed their stay at "The Big Pono Aloha".

In May of 2019 we did a major renovation to the condo including new flooring, fixtures, paint, AC and so much more.

Complete Amenities: Full kitchen, dining room, living room, private lanai, 2 large bedrooms, 2 large bathrooms with private entries, pool, hot tub, spa, tennis, exercise room, volleyball, BBQ grills, FREE WiFi, 3-mile bike path along the ocean and FREE PARKING!

Don't waste money on an expensive hotel room for $300-$400 a night! Hotel rooms are small and expensive!

"The Big Pono Aloha" is well BIG! Most people say it's located in the best spot at the Pono Kai.

You are on the second floor so you get AMAZING views and nobody above you plus there are elevators for easy access.

This condo comfortably sleeps 2-6 people in the beds! No inconvenient living room hide-a-bed. The master bedroom has a king-size bed and private bathroom/vanity (sleeps 2).

The second bedroom has a queen bed PLUS a twin bunk bed (sleeps 4 easily), TV, and private access to the 2nd bathroom. A coin-operated laundry room is just down the hall, steps away for easy access.

Elevator access makes for easy coming and going. Walk seventy-five feet to a sandy beach, pool, hot tub, beautifully manicured gardens, tennis courts, a croquet court, barbecue/picnic areas, volleyball, fitness center, and shuffleboard. Take a short walk from the resort for great island boutique shopping, food, and recreation in historic Kapaa.

There are three portable AC units for your convenience in the bedrooms and kitchen however most guests don't need them due to the refreshing ocean breezes.

Ceiling fans in Kitchen, Living Room, and both Bedrooms for additional air circulation. Authentic Hawaiian Oceanfront living.

*Please note that this is a privately owned condo inside of the Pono Kai Resort. You have full access to all of the amenities at the property however the Pono Kai resort does not manage the condo. It is privately managed so any requests for maintenance, cleaning or help during your stay need to be communicated directly with our management company and us and not the front desk at the Pono Kai.

We always recommend that our guests obtain travel or vacation insurance for their stay in case your plans change as we strictly follow our cancelation and refund policy as outlined in our listing.

Also for your information, our front door has a Ring Video Doorbell for extra security of the outside entrance.

Great Location

This condo is in beautiful Pona Kai Resort with full use of equipment and facilities. Watch the sunrise over the ocean from patio or bedroom. We enjoyed walking along the ocean walkway every morning. Centrally located in Old Town Kapaa

Amazing vacation

This condo was perfect. The description was exactly what it was. It was so clean and had everything you would need. The view was incredible to just relax and watch the waves. Got to see several whales go by. We brought binoculars which helped. You will not regret renting this property.

Holidays at Big Pono Aloha!

My wife and three young adult daughters stayed for a week over Christmas. Really enjoyed going to sleep at night listening to the waves, having morning coffee on the lanai with the beautiful sunrise, the great beach access, the walkway and short walk to local shops and restaurants in Kapaa. Was a great space and central location to enjoy Kauai! Would highly recommend.

Clean and well equipped

Well maintained and a comfortable home to stay in. Property was well kept with constant maintenance to upkeep, all staff were polite and helpful. Did not have all the amenities because we rented through VRBO but the house was equipped with what we needed (pool towels). Location can’t be beat, view was impressive. Would definitely stay here again.

Wonderful!!

Condo was wonderful. Just as pictured. It was so close to restaurants, beach, and great walking path. We enjoyed our stay so much!!! Kountry Kitchen restaurant has a wonderful breakfast and the Olympic Cafe has GREAT food and atmosphere. Being so centrally located was a great advantage, as they are working on the roads near Lihue and traffic can be very slow except on the week ends.

Perfect spot for a family of 4

The property is just a few feet from the ocean. We love listening to the waves crash in the morning. All the amenities are there to cook etc and there are many restaurants within walking distance of the property. Also, a couple of reviews in previous stays had issues with the master mattress. That must have been resolved as it was very comfortable. We would definitively stay here again.

great stay in Kapaa

This place was perfect for our family of 4. The condo was very spacious and was bigger than expected. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen was perfect for making meals at home. The view was amazing and sunrises sublime. The location was great if you plan to visit both south and north sides so that you are located in between. The Pono Kai resort was good. Amenities were adequate. You have go to the front desk to check out things like ping pong paddles, croquet set, etc and they close at 6 so we had wished that it was possible to do some of these things after 6. That was our only comment but it is no fault of the condo owner, just an odd resort policy. The resort and grounds were nicely kept. We would stay here again. Thank you for sharing it with us.

No other way to describe it, it’s paradise! This was our third visit to Phil’s condo and we couldn’t be happier! The view will take your breath away! The Condo was spotless! We love B201 ! The unit has some lovely updates, and is equipped with everything you would need. This end unit has nobody above you, and is right on the ocean with beautiful views. The bed is very comfortable. I might suggest a comfy chair for the living room, but we were very happy with our 5 weeks here. We especially appreciated the new owners’ quick response to any contact. They were delightful to work with, and I hope they enjoy their new ownership. Mahalo.

We stayed in condo be 201 Phil Adam's owner of the reviews said something about the mattresses and pillows all seem new no problems there bathrooms kitchen Rall clean the toilets were ADA height the windows though or on the old side but everything else seems fine The window in the master bedroom looks right up to the ocean but you can't see through it because the age of the windows are we had a great time

Trip of a lifetime

This condo was perfect for our son, his wife and their young son. The views of the water and the sunrise were spectacular even when it was a bit cloudy. They used the pool and hot tub every day for at least two hours. We all used the BBQs for meals on several days. The place was spotless and very well stocked with everything they needed. Boogie boards and snorkels were unexpected but so nice to have. We did not want to spend the money to buy them but to be able to borrow them was such a treat. I would definitely recommend this condo to anyone I know.

Air conditionning is a MUST!

Ponokai Resort is perfectly located for visiting Kauai Island ... All facilities are nice ... perfect resort. However, the temperature IMPOSES to have air conditioning what this unit does not have ... which requires leaving all the windows open making everything in the condo wet and sticky ... especially all carpets (living room and bedrooms) and lounge chairs. As an added bonus, ants enter through the kitchen window! So, I recommend the Ponokai Resort but i suggest you to consider others units instead of this one!

The location of the condo on the beach and in Kapaa are the greatest features. The resort was wonderful and the people very helpful. Had a minor issue with the tv and Monica who is Phil's island contact was great getting it fixed. Walking and bike trail directly in front was used every day. To be honest the condo needs a fix up with carpets, woodwork, fixtures although the condo was very well stocked. The outside furniture was not clean or wiped down when we arrived. Otherwise it was good working with Phil with questions. Also the roosters will wake you every morning before the sun rises!

Beautiful view & great location!

This property was just as advertised! It was a great location and had a beautiful view. We witnessed a few breathtaking sunrises. The main bedroom has a beautiful picture window with ocean views, and we fell asleep each night to the sounds of the waves. Easy to walk to restaurants/shops in Kapaa, including easy access to shave ice! :) We are a family of 4 (kids age 4 & 8) and we loved the pool, yard games and access to all the beach equipment you will need for a fun stay. We also used the communal grills several times. We liked the location of the condo, as it provided easy access to all areas of the island. Laundry is not in the unit, but it is very easy to access - just bring your quarters. We never had trouble running a load when needed. We had one minor issue with the door code, but the hosts/property managers responded immediately and no other issues for the rest of our stay! We will gladly stay here again on a future stay.

Not impressed, actually disappointed in maintenace/presentation

The property was in a great location with a great view of the ocean, yet the maintenance on the property was disappointing. Many handles, fixtures of metal had corrosion that clearly was due to a lack of maintenance. A good example was the towel racks, on the bottom they were beautiful, yet on top, all kinds of corrosion. The weather/humidity played a large part, yet other properties we saw in the area all were better maintained. If you don't mind a little green corrosion on your towel racks and door handles for a great price, this is a great place. If looking for hotel clean (which we were), I'd suggest another.

Decent location, nice facility, new mattresses, outdated condo.

Overall we really enjoyed this condo. It is completely stocked with dishes, furniture, and amenities such as beach towels, snorkeling equipment, beach chairs, and boogie boards. The facilities are nice, however the parking for this particular unit is not very close, but it is not prohibitive. There are coin-operated washers and dryers on site, as well as an elevator. The unit itself is nice, albeit outdated. Some people complained of old and worn out mattresses, however it appeared all three mattresses were brand new. The carpet is fairly clean, although there are a few stains or dark spots, and a couple runs in the carpet. The ceiling in the main (master?) bedroom looks as if it has been repaired a few times, but should probably just be replaced. The shutters in the same room are also pretty worn out, with a couple hinges simply not doing anything. The main room as you enter from the front door gives a pet/urine odor, but it may be from the salty air. Those things being said, I felt I got a great value for the price I paid, and would stay here again! The owner responds quickly to messages.
