Overlooking the Petit de Grat Harbour with beach & wharf access, this 200 yr old historic Acadian home maintains it’s rustic charm taking you back to simpler times, with a modern twist. Only 20 min fr the 104 on the Cabot trail route, enjoy the hot tub with a an ocean view, kayaking, clam digging, and fish off the wharf. Includes excellent internet, BBQ ,washer- dryer, linens and most condiments!
This home, once belonging to my grand mother , is nestled around other fishing homes and overlooks the Petit de Grat Harbour. One bedroom is located on the main floor with 3 bedrooms located on the TOP floor. Sleeps 9 ( there’s a cot on site for the 9th) :two queen, one double , 2 single beds. (The stairs to the 3 rooms on the 2nd floor are quite steep. Please ensure you check out the associated photos!) Walk to the library. Enjoy the view. Read a book. Relax.
This is a very RUSTIC traditional Acadian home, with many items , paintings and TACKY trinkets that once belonged to my grand mother. Other then the leather sofas and internet, there is nothing modern about our cottage. The floors are ORIGINAL , a combination of tiles and linoleum. The bathroom is pink and dated! The towels are great but don’t match. However, as others have found, you’ll no doubt discover lots of hidden charm, memories, and things that possibly remind you of your own grand parent's home! And the view is priceless.
Renting our cottage includes the following :
6 person hot tub (please be aware of our hot tub rules), 3 adult kayaks, 1 adult fishing kayak, Life jackets (We do not guarantee right sizes. Guests must wear when on the water. We have 2 adult small and 2 adult medium. Please bring your own if possible)
The back deck , equipped with a BBQ, table/seating, & patio furniture, overlooks the harbour. Enter the home whenever it’s convenient using the lock box key. Oftentimes it’s simply unlocked. As we are often in the area, there will always be someone nearby if you require immediate assistance. The stairs leading up to the other 5 beds (queen, 2 double, 2 singe, cot) are steep. We suggest anyone with mobility issues stay on the main floor.
The place has superb wifi, a loaded fire stick and a 55 inch 4K smart tv for those not so nice days, where a blanket, Netflixs and a beverage of choice warms the heart and soul.
Please review our waiver and hot tub rules and regulations. We reserve the right to charge for a damaged hot tub and-or add an additional 100$ if the hot tub needs to be drained and refilled due to dirt and sediment accumulation. If the following evenings guests cancel due to our inability to provide a hot hot tub, because of a need to be drained and refilled , we reserve the right to pass this lost income onto you. This has only happened when people run from the hot tub, down off the wharf, and back again.
There is a park model at the bottom of the property . It is occasionally rented to 2 max guests. It doesn't affect the privacy of the home.
From November to December, we offer a vintage Christmas experience. Come spend Christmas in a 200 year old home decorated like the 70s!

The area is beautiful. Rich in heritage and hospitality. Host was pleasant to deal with. House has a very charming and cozy feel. The deck has a beautiful view and the hot tub is amazing.
Small well-furnished house on a truly beautiful harbor. There is a large deck overlooking the harbor with comfortable furniture for lounging and dining. The house provides several kayaks and a wharf for water access. The surrounding community of Petit de Grat is a lively and friendly place.
Host is very friendly and communicative. Property and cottage are great. Very relaxing but at the same time there is lots to do nearby. Make sure to initiate conversations with the locals as they are some of the nicest, funniest and warmest people you will ever meet.
We stayed for the long weekend with our adult children and their spouse (6 of us). Fisherman's Cottage was perfect for us. There was lots of room for everyone, and what a view!! The kitchen was well equipped and let us prepare a celebration meal. We spent a lot of time in the hot tub. What a treat!! We would visit again.
Oh did we love this spot! Amazing sunrises and sunsets. Kayaking. Nice spot on the dock to enjoy a coffee. Hot tub (which we used multiple times). Not to mention the family cottage vibes that reminded me of our old Northern Ontario family camp that I spent summers at as a child. I would love to return with family one day and enjoy some more time there. The location is wonderful. The space was very clean and the beds were so comfy! Thank you to the hosts for offering such a stunning spot.

In a sea of 5 stars , we have your lovely letter left behind commenting on the zip tie on a door, the paint chips in some areas of the home (look closely at our photos) and the 200 year old walkway on entry. You won’t find the ritz finishing a with this 200 year old home hun. Please read before booking. #worstguestever

About the host
Hosted by shelley leblanc
We presently live in Halifax, Nova Scotia, during the winter , and love spending as much time as we can in Cape Breton during the summer. I teach , and my husband Julian is in construction (and proud contestant of the Great Canadian Baking Show- season1) We're raising pretty awesome twins. Our hosting began in Cape Breton in 2018 and we’ve recently added properties in Halifax.
Why they chose this property
We do not utilize this property during the whole summer and often spend our time in Cape Breton staying in our trailer. We've made our Cape-Breton home available for others to enjoy.
What makes this property unique
The view is incredible. The stars at night are the brightest. Fish mackerel right off the wharf (we provide the gear) Kayak (we provide the gear) Get the inside scoop of hidden beaches, trails, things to do!
