Alfama 5 is on the first floor (no lift) of an old building recently fully refurbished.
Renovation was complete and carefully accomplished: pre-existing old materials like the wooden floor and ceilings were incorporated with the new. Apartment has now a modern and well equipped kitchen and a full bathroom, functional bedrooms with large closets and air conditioning (heat and cold) in the living room.
Decoration is sober in a cheerful family style that makes the flat very cozy.

The apartment can accommodate up to 4 people with full comfort. It is composed of a living room and dinning area, modern kitchen and two bedrooms with double beds. A full bathroom and a small storage room complete the apartment.
Alfama 5 has a small balcony and two large windows that let in lots of sunlight. Balcony faces the little square in front of the entrance to the Castle with really nice views and the Castle is literally at your feet.

Location was good but be aware it is near the top of the area ( have to go back uphill at the end of a day) and that you are right outside the castle which means noisy line ups all day and stores below open until 11:00pm

Enjoyable stay

Beautiful area, well supplied and clean. Furnishings need updating: beds were not the most comfortable, but were sleepable; shower fixture was a little low and mount was broken.

Nice and bright apartment in old house and on historical place (in front of a castle). Attracting old town area in Alfama. Many things to do and see on walk distance. Place is also good for walking in hilly and stony streets.

Great location - clean and spacious

Four of us stayed for 4 nights. Plenty of space and privacy, excellent facilities, including toiletries and laundry tablets. We loved the location of the property, opposite St George Castle entrance. Great to people-watch from the two large balcony windows. Easy communication with host who organised transfers for us to/from airport.

Absolutely fantastic stay in this lovely property. The hills can work your calves (!) but it’s worth it. Check in was smooth, contact with Mario beforehand very easy and Rui who we met on arrival was lovely. The apartment had everything we needed and being right next to the castle was absolutely fantastic. Nothing was more than a short walk away - I would definitely stay again and recommend to others. The only niggles I would mention would be there is air con only in the main living area - not a problem for us at this time of year as windows open in the bedroom allowed a nice breeze before closing them before bed. There were also fans in the bedrooms which helped. The only other thing was that upstairs were fairly noisy - unsure if they’re locals or were just visiting but this didn’t impact on our enjoyment/ stay. My only recommendation would be a lamp in the living area (because I like dim lighting in the evening; very aware that’s personal preference). Everything was very clean and tidy, and there were thoughtful touches throughout. Lots of space to pop things and like I said, wouldn’t hesitate to stay again. Locals were friendly and lots of choice for food nearby which was all delicious. Thanks again Mario for a wicked stay.

Mario and Rui were extremely attentive and kind. We were able to leave our bags early and explore while they were cleaning the flat. They provided us with a basic map of the immediate area. It’s a tucked away area other than the castle on a narrow street and is nice and quiet at night. Please be advised that the flat is up a hill and Ubers and bolts are not permitted in the section that the flat is in. It is only a 6 minute walk from the pick up spots, but it’s that for your first arrival to the flat that you take a taxi, which are permitted to get you close to the flat. We could hear the folks in the unit above us, but it didn’t bother us much and we normally sleep with ear plugs. It does get more lively as the day goes on because it is quite literally next to the castle. There’s a small shop across the street to grab waters and snacks and the wonderful LUDO’s, a cafe around the corner. There’s also a bar where you can get sizeable spritzes and beers if you fancy it.It can get hot in the back area of the flat especially if you have the AC on, so be sure to keep the door to the living room and bedrooms closed to keep it cool. The AC unit is in the living room, so we used the fans provided to move the cool air into the bedrooms and kept the doors open. The flat checked the boxes on our basic needs and we would stay again! Only ask would maybe to have more pillows, but that is just a personal preference :). Thank you Mario!!

Location trĂšs bien placĂ©e, trĂšs sympa. Malheureusement, l’appartement est mal insonorisĂ© avec l’appartement au dessus. Et les camions poubelles s’arrĂȘtent de minuit Ă  1h devant toutes les nuits. Et avec les fenĂȘtres ouvertes c’est difficile de bien dormir. C’est le seul point nĂ©gatif.

The location was great, the apartment was clean and the host was amazing. The only issue was that we could hear everything that was going on in the apartment upstairs, as if there was no sound proofing. There was a lot of noises during the night or early in the morning, so we did not sleep well at all during our stay.

Great location minor comfort issue.

Our recent stay was a mixed experience. The location is excellent—right below the entrance to the castle, which made it very convenient for sightseeing. However, this also meant it was quite noisy, especially throughout the day and evening.The apartment itself was generally comfortable and nicely kept, but a few more amenities would have made the stay more relaxing. A coffee table and a more spacious or cozy seating area would’ve been appreciated—after a long day of walking, there wasn’t really a good place to put your feet up and unwind.The beds were comfortable, which we appreciated, but there were a few issues with the bedding. There were no top sheets provided, and the duvets or comforters seemed in need of a fresh cleaning.Overall, it was a decent stay in a great location, but with a few small improvements, it could be much better.

TrĂšs bel emplacement (malgrĂ© le fait que c’est en haut de la montagne). Je suggĂšre d’utiliser le transport en commun ou le taxi si plusieurs allez-retour entre le haut et le bas de la ville. L’air climatisĂ© n’était pas performante. Toutefois, l’ouverture des fenĂȘtres assurait une trĂšs bonne ventilation de l’appartement.

Excellent Position

It was very good. There are 17 internal stairs as advertised and the front door doesn't open properly because it's too close to the first stairs. Suggest notching the first stairs maybe? Anyway the apartment was lovely. The main pictured bedroom was very bright and had two doors opening onto a small Juliette balcony which then looked down onto the entrance to the castle. It was fun to watch people and at night listen to music being played. The mattress was quite firm but not uncomfortable. The second room is smaller but has a window which let in plenty of light. The bathroom was fine and the kitchen was well equipped, not that we ate in much. The apartment is easily within walking distance of the city sights. Rui was very good at explaining things and he supplied a map to a few things in relation to the apartment. If you're going to need the grocery store then double check how to find it before the host leaves because we got lost and then found it tucked under another building and accessed both by stairs and a lift. All in all the apartment was excellent.
