Riverfront on the beautiful Columbia River

Bohemian River Cottage is a cozy comfortable cottage sitting on the beautiful Columbia river. Located on Puget Island, just 90 minutes outside the Portland/Vancouver area, make it perfect for a weekend getaway or a special weeks vacation. Whether you are looking for outdoor adventures, or relaxing in the hammock listening to the birds, the river is the perfect location to get away from the outside world. Puget island is a farming community in the middle of the river, with outdoor adventures from your door steps. Home comes complete with all necessities for a wonderful vacation. The house has a wonderful outdoor seating area for relaxing, eating, or gathering for games. Don't be surprised if the local deer pass through the yard as you are enjoying watching the eagles dive into the water for lunch - there is always wildlife activity to observe on the island.

Located on the Columbia river between Oregon & Washington just a quick ferry ride from the Oregon side, and a bridge from Washington, Puget Island has beaches, waterways, a boat launch, and some lovely little local farms to purchase locally made goods. Be sure to check out the visitors bureau for local information.

Cathlamet is a cute little nearby town with a home town market for purchasing groceries, but it is suggested you bring the 'harder to find' items from your market or a quick stop in Longview on the way.

The island is one big walking and biking path with waterways throughout for the avid kayaker and SUP enthusiast. Bring your water toys and enjoy !! (water craft shown in photos does not come with rental.)

There is wifi throughout the house, with a Smart TV accessing Amazon Prime, Netflix, Showtime, HBO, Hulu and more. (No local cable access)

Be sure to pay attention to tide charts when arriving and be aware of safety precautions. When the tide is low, is the perfect time to walk on the beach to the west - approximately a mile toward the ferry is a beautiful walk. Then later or earlier, when the tide is higher is the right time to venture out on your watercraft of choice. The kayak can get through most times, but it's better when the water is higher for the paddle board enthusiast. Feel free to ask any questions on either !

For those of you fishing fans, there is a boat launch 2 miles from the house. Fun for everyone !

Numerous furnishings were provided and in tip top condition. We didn’t do a lot of cooking, yet all needed kitchen appliances and equipment is there and located for convenient use. We appreciate such a neat, clean place to stay.

Peaceful stay

Came for a long weekend for my wife's birthday. March visit during Covid, so really we were looking for a place to relax. Loved the house and the property. House was well stocked and we didn't need to bring much besides some food. Took a day trip over to Beaver Falls, which was an easy hike and very beautiful. Came back well rested and had a lovely stay! Will look into visiting over the summer next time!

A very comfortable/well kept refuge right on the river. Between drives to Ridgefield preserve and Astoria, spent most of our time on the back porch watching the birds and ships. Think I'm going to get a job on the Oscar B so I can just stay on Puget Island.

Lovely, restful stay in the Lower Columbia

My husband and I spent three nights here and enjoyed the water view and access. The backyard offered several areas to relax and hang out plus the back porch for dinner was wonderful. We brought our sea kayaks and took the ferry to oregon one day, paddling further down river . We were also able to paddle out of Skamakawa. Lots to do - or time to do nothing- whatever you want. Loved coming back from paddling to relax on the river.

perfect escape from the city

The cottage is wonderful. So cute and cozy. We only left the amazing backyard oasis- with a beautiful river view to take the little ferry to the Astoria Sunday Farmers market. The birdwatching was so relaxing. Great for Kayaks. The place is quiet and clean with very tasteful and adorable decor. We will definitely return. If you have alfalfa or cottonwood allergies plan accordingly as the island had a lot of pollen during my weekend.

Home away from home

This home is perfect, the view is beautiful and watching the hummingbirds and the other beautiful birds is so relaxing. Sitting outside on the wonderful deck watching the ships drinking coffee was more than we could ask for. We didn’t get to have a fire down by the river because it was raining but we do plan on returning, the fire pit and chairs by the river would have been nice I’m sure. Our host was great answered any questions I had, Thankyou for sharing your beautiful cottage, and we do hope to stay again.

Puget Island

There were four of us who went to Puget Island to visit our daughter, who happened to lived on the same street as the bohemian home. This house was very clean well stocked with all the kitchen utensils you’d ever think of in fact, it’s better stocked than my own home, the house is on the river with a beautiful fenced in backyard and the front yard is beautiful as well. The check-in was easy the reservation was easy I would definitely recommend this to anybody who wanted to be near or on Puget Island, Cathlamet, or even Longview. This house has three bathrooms, two full bathrooms, and a toilet in a sink in the master bedroom makes it soo convenient with 4 adults. The house is so cutely decorated. In fact, my daughter said she wants that house. We enjoyed seeing deer in the yard on a daily basis cows across the street it’s very relaxing we would definitely stay again.

Our experience

This is a cute little place and the location on the river is good. I’d read other reviews that mentioned the matresses and ignored. However our experience of the beds (double and twin) were not good. We took turns sleeping on the day bed because those in bedrooms were very boggy. I appreciate our host alerting me in advance as soon as she knew there were active bees on-site - a tough reality this time of year. Unfortunately I was stung multiple times and did not want to spend any time in the yard or deck. As we’d planned to kayak from the beach this really hampered our enjoyment of the property. Lastly the shower walls in the upstairs bath clearly had not been cleaned after the last guests. Overall I think with better/new matresses I’d come back again - but not in the summer. Recommend that yellow jacket/wasp traps be hung out in June and maintained all summer.

beautiful setting, lovely home

This was a fantastic place to spend a few summer days- direct access to over a mile of sandy beach on the shores of the Columbia, near perfect silence except for the multitude of birds, deer wandering through the yard to clean up the fallen apples and plums, and a fully equipped house in exquisite shape. Jeanine was clear and quick in her communications, and left lots of helpful information on activities in the area. Lovely place that we would recommend to anyone for a peaceful getaway.
