About this property

Chief Cabin at The Lazy Buffalo Explore the Wichita Mountains Relax & Unwind

The Chief Cabin portrays the life of the Great Comanche Chief Quanah Parker. His original Star House which is on the National Register of Historic Places is less than a mile away.

Nestled at the foothills of the Wichita Mountains, The Lazy Buffalo has 13 individually themed Cabins. Each Cabin is uniquely decorated to capture the essence of the Wichita Mountains and the history of our hometown.

The Chief Cabin has two Queen Size beds and a walk-in tiled shower. Barn wood, knotty pine, and corrugated tin are used throughout the spacious cabin. Dark stained concrete floors and tin ceilings really add a rustic yet elegant vibe. The kitchenette area has a mini fridge, k cup maker, microwave, along with table and chairs.

During your stay, enjoy complimentary Netflix and Wi-Fi or unplug and take in the beauty of our area. Watch as the sunsets over the plains from the long covered front porch while lounging in the wooden rockers. Southwest Oklahoma sunsets are truly worth witnessing.

Sip on a cup of coffee to get your morning started right and end your adventurous day gathered at the covered picnic area while enjoying smells from the charcoal grill. Yummy marshmallow goodness at the fire pit is a memorable way to cap off the evening or choose to relax under the stars in the back of our vintage star gazing truck, located just a short walk from the cabin.

Both kids and adults will love tossing horseshoes and playing old fashion games. Toss Frisbees at the disc golf stations, drop giant checkers to make a Connect 4, create music at our interactive music wall, or team up for some volleyball action. We are always adding new outdoor activities. Don't forget to snap some memories at The Lazy Buffalo photo ops.

LOCATION:
The Wildlife Refuge, which is just over 2 miles away, preserves 59,000 acres of mixed prairie grass, ancient mountains, lakes, and streams. Herds of bison, longhorn, and elk can be seen roaming free and there's endless recreations opportunities such as fishing, bird watching, mountain biking, hiking, rock climbing, and kayaking.

A paved bike lane joins the property and runs throughout the Wildlife Refuge. The Lazy Buffalo is less than a mile from the original Quanah Parker’s Star House and minutes from Lawton Fort Sill and historic Medicine Park so there's plenty to see and do nearby.

Great location for park!
Loved the rustic feel and charm to this place but need to seriously get mattresses. We did not sleep well and this was the reason. Other than that we loved it. Great place!

Great place near the Wichitas!
We usually camp within the refuge, but circumstances had us change our plans. What a pleasant find this was! Near everything we wanted to do, and lots of activities to do on the place during downtime. Oh! and hubby loved having a hot shower after the trails :)

We have lived in Southwest Oklahoma for over 60 years and love our hometown of Cache. The Wichita Mountains are right in our backyard, and we get to enjoy their beauty every day.

In 2019, The Lazy Buffalo opened with 5 vacation rental Cabins. These Cabins were designed to capture the essence of the Wichita Mountains and the history of our hometown. In 2021, the Venue with Bunkhouse opened, and we carried over the same western vibe when designing the 2400 square foot space. Throughout 2022 and 2023, we opened 6 more Cabins and in late 2023 our first set of pet friendly Cabins opened.

Conveniently connected by sidewalks, it's just a short stroll being the bunkhouse, our Cabins, and 24 hour guest laundry. All together, we can accommodate up to 49 guests among the 13 Cabins and Bunkhouse.

We are blessed to be family owned and managed. Our favorite thing about hosting is seeing multi-generation Families gathered around sharing quality time together. Should you need anything, our home is only 2 blocks from the Cabins. We hope you make wonderful memories while being our guest at The Lazy Buffalo.

Why they chose this property

Southwest Oklahoma is rich with History and offers endless things to do and discover. If you love nature or the Wild West, this is the spot for you.

For those that like to hit the slots, the Comanche Cache Casino is now open and just across the street from the Cabins (casino temporarily closed for expansion).

For history enthusiasts, Quanah Parker’s Star House is nearby. The two story home is known for its distinctive wraparound porch with large white stars adoring the roof. Many tales of the famous outlaws Belle Starr and Jesse James were rumored to have roamed our area. Will you be the one to find their hidden loot?

WICHITA MOUNTAINS WILDLIFE REFUGE – 3 miles
The Wildlife refuge spans 59000 acres and home to free range buffalo, longhorn cattle, and other species. Stop at the Visitor Center for a wealth of information on all the Refuge attractions including the Holy City, Quanah Parker Lake, parallel forest, forty-foot hole, and Charon’s garden trail.
