About this property

cozy Longhorn CABIN sleeps 2 near Wichita Mountains Medicine Park

The Saving the Longhorn Cabin portrays the story of how the Texas Longhorns were brought to the Wichita Mountains in 1927 in an effort to save them from extinction. The late Earl Drummond, Forest Ranger and Cache resident, played a vital role in selecting these magnificent bovine.

Nestled at the foothills of the Wichita Mountains, The Lazy Buffalo has 13 themed cabins each decorated uniquely to capture the essence of the Wichita Mountains and history of our hometown. This Cabin is located in our newest addition. It features copies of the original photos from the Earl Drummond collection. Earl was a longtime Cache resident and Forest Ranger in the 1920s of the then called Wichita National Forest and Game Preserve. Earl helped in selecting the best Longhorn Cattle among thousands to bring to the Wildlife Refuge to preserve the breed from extinction.

The Saving the Longhorn Cabin has a comfy king size bed and a full bathroom with a large walk in tiled shower accented with glass blocks. Knotty pine and corrugated tin are used throughout the spacious cabin. Stained concrete floors and tin ceilings really add a rustic yet elegant touch.

The kitchenette area has a mini fridge and microwave along with table and chairs. Sip on a cup of coffee from the front porch or have a picnic in our outdoor pavilion area complete with charcoal Grill.

When it gets dark, roast marshmallows at the outdoor fire pit or relax under the stars in the back of our vintage star gazing truck, located just a short walk from the cabin.

Both kids and adults will love tossing horseshoes, throwing Frisbees at disc golf, playing old fashion board games from the front porch, and creating music in nature at the interactive Music Wall. Don't forget to snap memories at our themed photo ops.

Great place! Very convenient for visiting Wichita National Wildlife Refuge. Cute decor and some nice amenities, like a few complimentary snacks, extra blankets, and bottled water. But Note: Bring microwavable plates/bowls/cups if you plan to microwave anything. Only a few Styrofoam plates/cups, plasticware, and napkins are provided.
