Cozy Cabin Getaway - Convenient to 4 Ski Areas, Hiking and Mountain Bike Trails
Tucked into the side of a mountain in beautiful Canaan Valley, our little "Ski Hytte" is a true quiet getaway. It is an "unplugged" getaway that focuses on food, family and quality time. The screen distractions are minimal and the cabin games are plentiful.
4WD / AWD vehicles are a must to access the property - especially in the winter months.
On the main floor you will find: A well-outfitted kitchen with a kitchen island that seats 2. The kitchen has everything from an ice-cream maker to a fondue set as well as all the basics. The dining area has a table that seats as many as 8 and also doubles as a ping-pong table! 2 steps down into the living room you'll find a large fireplace with a comfy couch and a foosball table as well as books, puzzles, board and card games. Down the hall of the main floor you will find the master bedroom with queen size bed and an ensuite bathroom with shower. Across the hall is the 2nd bedroom with a full size bed and access to the hall bathroom with a tub and shower. Each of the main floor bedrooms have a door to a semi-private deck. Each one with an uninterrupted view of a gorgeous night sky. On the Basement level you will find: Down a spiral staircase, is the 3rd bedroom which also doubles as a game room. There is a twin bunkbed, a small futon and a few beanbag chairs for lounging. The one and only TV plays a small selection of DVD's and Wii games, so not completely unplugged! There is a small basket of kids toys and figurines as well as a dartboard. The 3rd bathroom has a walk-in shower and the washer and dryer is located here as well.
We hope you enjoy our home as much as we do. It is an excellent "base camp" for all of your outdoor adventures in this beautiful corner of West Virginia.

Getting There
The property is very nice. It's apparent a lot of upgrades have been made and more to come. Heck, there's even tissues throughout the house which you don't find many places. The only pick I have is that steps leading down to the house were barely cleared of snow/ice and very difficult and dangerous to negotiate with suitcases. I shoveled them myself the next day.
Overall the home was beautiful, in a wonderful area. The property was super nice, with good amenities. The only complaint that my new bride and I shared was the master bed. While it looked nice, the mattress was Very, Very firm. A mattress topper woupd have made the home perfect.
We stayed at the cabin for a long weekend over July 4th. The cabin was great and there’s tons to do in the summer - we enjoyed hiking, swimming, exploring Davis and Thomas, and coming back to cook out on the back deck. Hope to come back someday!
This is my second visit to this home for my annual cabin getaway w my pups. Perfect location being close to all the parks, resorts and town. In a beautiful gated neighborhood & host is very helpful if needed. Will definitely be returning again! Loveee Davis, WV
The cabin - house is very modern with all amenities. Very clean and specious. The location is close to all the activities and trails. We had a good relaxing vacation time.
Came to ski but the weather was really rainy, which gave us the opportunity to be very cozy in the house with beautiful views. The kids loved all the games. And we explored Davis. Great location between Davis and skiing. We definitely want to come back. Thank you so much!
We took our son to Timberline for his birthday. I understand that you can’t help the weather. When we arrived nothing was shoveled. You park above the house and have to walk down a hill to the house. Because it wasn’t shoveled two of us fell. Because it wasn’t shoveled we also didn’t have access to the wood or the grill. I did write Veronica and she had someone come after we were there two days. The road the cabin is on has 4 homes. Every single person got stuck and needed to be towed out. The plow doesn’t come down the road because we were told he’d get stuck. Our tow guy even said they hired a new plow guy and he’s not keeping up. 175 dollars later for a tow we weren’t to happy. There was a boulder they scraped on the road that was taller than my husband’s waist. No car or truck could make it up the hill. So if there snow don’t park on Slippery Slope Drive as we had 4 wheel drive along with everyone else. Home was nice for what we needed. The cabin was well stocked. The only improvements would be fix the rail going downstairs as a screw is sticking out. Provide dishcloths and I’ve never seen a place that doesn’t unload dishwasher for guests.
House was great needs some updates beds where very firm would be nice if there was a tv upstairs as some people in our group had a hard time going down the spiral staircase and the downstairs was very hot for kids to sleep
We visited the area to enjoy the winter activities the area has to offer and it did not disappoint. Sky Hytte was very comfortable, cozy and convenient to local ski areas and Blackwater State Park. It is important to note that a 4 wheel drive vehicle is a necessity to access this property in wintry conditions.
This "hiking hytte" is in a great location for exploring all that Canaan Valley and the surrounding area has to offer. We enjoyed our stay and the house was comfortable. Hosts were flexible with scheduling when our plans changed.
You might consider adding a desk or small table and chair to one of the bedrooms for guests who are working remotely, as we were. Also, it would be good to plan on upgrading the mattresses.
Communication with property manager was excellent, and one of the things i always check prior to visiting.
House was as described, and the level of cleaning was as described in some of the other reviews. Not complaining, given the location, but did have to wipe down the kitchen/bathroom counters and fridge prior to use. Plenty of space and the basement area is great for detaching from the kids in the evenings.
We had 8" of snow the first night and it continued most of the next day, but the plowman showed up before 8 so access to/from was not bad, even with the steepness of the hill to the property (YOU NEED 4WD/AWD). Location was great for access to both ski areas and Davis/Thomas.
The location is BEAUTIFUL.
This place has everything you need and more to be snowed in. Fireplace, board games, grill, plenty of pots, pans etc.
We lucked out and got 8+ inches of snow over the course of the four nights we were there.
I see other reviews about the place being dirty and I don’t agree.
This place was super clean.
My only complaint(and I’m really being picky here) is maybe have a couple extra pillows for the beds.
I give this place 9 outta 10 stars.
Absolutely would come back.
Fireplace, foosball table, extensive (awesome) collection Of CDs, really made for a magical snow covered time for our spring break vacation. Host communicated well. Loved it. Hill/driveway is pretty steep so definitely make sure you have 4x4.
My Honda AWD HR-V did great out there.
Thank you so much! Can’t wait to come back!

Cute ski house
The main floor of this house is fantastic and we enjoyed the decks for stargazing, the fireplace, lovely kitchen, and foosball. Anyone planning on having small children stay in the lower level bunk room should be aware it is accessed by a spiral metal staircase and is under partial renovation as of the date of our stay (March 2023). This was a bit of a surprise. We also unfortunately had a snafu with the cleaning service before our arrival and had to wash all the bedding and towels the evening we arrived. We appreciated the apology for the error.

Ski Getaway
Pros: wood burning fireplace, space was perfect for 2 families, kids loved the basement room hangout, well stocked kitchen, close proximity to ski resorts and black water falls
Cons: wasn’t very clean—we found somebody’s underwear in a closet and a dirty sock on the floor, I actually vacuumed and cleaned in the kitchen upon arrival, washer and dryer was was behind a locked door and took multiple messages back and forth with property manager to access it. Sounds like maybe the cleaning person locked the wrong door and put the keys in the wrong place…the property manager always responded but sometimes took a few hours or more and didn’t provide the right information the first few responses, so we didn’t have access to washer and dryer until end of second day. Thankfully this wasn’t a problem though.
All in all, great space for a good price!
Host was great. Liked this house, however, be aware that you have to carry your luggage down steps from parking area, which is common is ski areas. These outside steps were good, not steep, but no handrail. There is a spiral metal staircase that leads to third downstairs bedroom/laundry/ play area. This staircase would not be suitable for small children or dogs. Can be accessed from outside, but no walkway to get there, have to walk through grass. Not a big deal in the summer months. House does not have a cable TV, TV can be used with dvds, this TV is downstairs. Didn't miss the TV !

First glance nice, ok overall
Check in was problematic in that the lock box to front door was across entrance breeze way and didn't see it for awhile at dusk. Tried to contact VRBO and owner with no luck.
Inside looked nice but was a bit cluttered. Didn't go downstairs where the TV is because the stairs looked unstable.
Sheets on the bed were plastically, felt like sleeping on a plastic picnic tablecloth.
porch railing seemed a bit high such that a small dog or small child could slip through, just my opinion
We always bring our own coffee pot and pans so we used very little except for a couple plates and silverware which we hand washed. When we went to check out and put them in the dishwasher to run, discovered the dishwasher was full of dirty encrusted dishes. I guess the cleaning staff doesn't check.
Owner does not provide propane for the grill, if there is some left then you don't have to get a refill.
I mentioned all these issues to the owner but received no response.
Owner does correctly indicate the need for a four wheel drive vehicle. Steep Slope drive is very steep and is comprised of washed out gravel.
