The Neighborhood:
The Village of Grand Traverse Commons, located one mile from downtown Traverse City, is formally known as The Traverse City State Hospital. In operation from 1885-1989, it was the third psychiatric hospital in Michigan. With its vast grounds of 135 acres of fruit trees, gardens, and farming livestock, all of which kept the institution fully self-sufficient. As of 2002, the Village of Grand Traverse Commons was established, reinventing and restoring the former hospital into a thriving hub for housing, gourmet restaurants, and boutique shops. With the properties scenic, vast landscape, hiking trails, and beautifully restored buildings preserving history, Kirkbride Hall is known for hosting events including weddings and receptions, concerts, fundraisers, along with hosting many community events throughout the year. Highly recommended is the Guided and Historic Building and Tunnel Tour hosted by The Village of Grand Traverse Commons.
Getting Around:
The Mercato (where a lot of shops and dining is located), Left Foot Charley's Earthen Ales, the bakery, and most everything is within walking distance.

Small but super efficient in a phenomenal location. Walking distance from some of the best restaurant options in Traverse City. Would not hesitate to come back again!
Excellent location!! Everything is within walking distance from food, shopping and just walking around and soaking in the history!! Communication with the VRBO staff was beyond my expectations.
Hands down one of the most spotless places we've ever stayed! Walking distance to hospital and 2 of the best restaurants in TC! Condo has everything you could need! Wasnt our first time staying at wont be our last! Thank you for providing a safe, comfortable and lovely place to enjoy!
I found that our stay here was conveniently located near town, you can walk to so many eateries and shops within the villages campus. AC and ceiling fan worked great, beds were comfortable, and I really liked the patio sitting area in the evenings.
We loved our stay! We needed a place to rest and rejuvenate after a hectic wedding week. This little space was perfect for us. Close to a great coffee shop and good food. Quiet and clean! We loved it!
Loved being able to stay in a historical location with easy access to fantastic dining.

I had a wonderful stay here! The property was incredibly comfortable, extremely clean, had everything—a perfect location, and the village is very interesting! I enjoyed walking around the village area getting coffee and dinner.
We loved our stay at this condo in the Commons. Close enough to Traverse City but without all the crowds. Great dining options. The condo itself was very comfortable, quiet and we appreciated the outside space. Would stay again.
This was the perfect place to stay for a short work conference that I attended in the area. Nicer than a hotel room and loved being able to walk around the beautiful property.
The condo was very clean and easy to access with the lock box.
Cannot beat the location. Perfect walking distance to all the shops and restaurants at the village at grand traverse commons. The rental was extremely spacious. Make sure to pull your blinds down! Lots of beautiful natural light in the morning.
