We really enjoyed everything about this house!! It was close to the beach (just steps). The house was well stocked with everything, it was clean, there are 2 washers and dryers to keep towels washed and ready, the views were incredible, the sunsets were intense!!
I hosted a friends birthday weekend and Jeannie and the property were terrific. The balcony looks out over the sea and the beach is a one-minute walk down the stairs in a relatively secluded section. The house has a number of activities (hot tub, bikes, table tennis) and hosting and sleeping space.Jeannie is such a wonderful and communicative host. I can’t recommend the house enough.
The house has so much space! It was perfect for a New Year's getaway with family and friends. The location is amazing and the owners are incredibly lovely. The house has everything you need and we can't way to book another stay.
The property is simply lovely, ocean views are featured from the entire upstairs. The house was so well furnished, plenty of everything you could need, and you can't beat the location with a beach just steps away. Jean was very nice and helpful, all in our family Thanksgiving agreed that it was the perfect place for a get together
House has a great layout, plenty of room. Fully stocked kitchen. We could see whales breaching while we had coffee on the balcony. Steps away from the beach. We had a wonderful time!

Hi Heather,
Great to hear you had enjoyed the house and got to see some whales.
Love to have you back.
All the best,
Jeannie
We gathered our little family from all over the country for my Mom's memorial. The location away from the crowds, just steps to the beach, beautiful sunsets from the deck, comfortable sleeping arrangements. Fun and reflection.
The house is located on a great beach, easy to get to Pleasure Point for surfing. We had some trouble with the dishwasher, but the property manager helped to fix it. The home is very big and great for a lot of guests.

A wonderful setting for our family holiday.
We loved this house. Plenty of room, a beautiful view, all that we expected and more. Jeans’ home is well stocked and has so many thoughtful extras.
We slept well in comfortable bedding listening to the waves crash. We played games at the large dining room table. It met all our needs and more.
Thank you so much Jean.

Hi Janet,
Thank you for the wonderful review. We are so lucky to have this house and happy to be able to make it comfortable and available for family get togethers by the sea.
All the best,
Jeannie
The property was a little dated for the price but very comfortable and with plenty of room for our family of 10 (assorted ages). Lots of plates and glassware. Had some trouble with the stove. Large table and plenty of chairs, again with a lovely view. The beach is great, not too crowded despite being small, and very handy to be able to nip back to the house for snacks, etc.
Was very pleased with the overall stay - we gathered the three kids and their families for a short family reunion. The sleeping arrangements were great - each family had their own room and the lack of a TV upstairs was fantastic - created family time during meals and before sunset. Kitchen was well organized and clean - great for family breakfasts. Are planning on returning next year. Also liked the compound feel with the wall in front of the house - very secure.

Thank you Gary. It was a pleasure to have you and your family stay at our beach house.
I find that most families appreciate that the TV is downstairs. This creates a space for families to enjoy each other more upstairs, were the views are.
The house was great for our needs. I only gave it 4 starts because the hot tub was out, and needed repair. We had booked it partly because of that. We have 3 small children and the house was so well equipped for beach activities- even had a stroller. The interior is older but well kept up. Jean was amazing over the phone. She offered local restaurant suggestions and was very accommodating and friendly

Great guests and would love to host their stay again.
Unfortunately, even though our spa has weekly maintenance, and is also inspected prior to guest arrival, spa's do go out, although rarely..
Luckily we were able to get it working quickly, unfortunately not before this guest's 2 night weekend stay was over.
We had a great time staying at this house! The location was wonderful...secluded yard and proximity to beach! Each day had just enough low tide hours to get out there and play in the water. We brought our own wetsuits and boogie boards, though the house did offer a few options. The hose to rinse sand off was so convenient. The hot tub and fireplaces were perfect for warming up after the beach. A television in the upper living room would have been nice since it gets pretty dark up there when the sun goes down. The bikes were in pretty rough condition, but I was still able to ride one up to some shops. That was fun! Overall, we really enjoyed ourselves here.

Great family beach house!
This was perfect for our family Thanksgiving at the beach. Three generations took full advantage of the beach for walks, romps in the surf, and amazing dog walking. Large common areas were comfortable for the whole family (8) to hang together. We took advantage of the ping pong tables for a rousing family championship on our one rainy day. The kitchen was well equipped for preparing all our meals including a Thanksgiving dinner. Jean had made sure we had roasting pans for the turkey. And Alfredo helped us with check-in. He had the place spotless and ready for our arrival. Communication was easy.

Dear James,
Thank you for your wonderful review. Your family was great to host. I'm so glad that you were able to take advantage of all our home has to offer.
We look forward to hosting your stay again.
All the best,
Jeannie
The house is about 200 feet to the public beach access stairs, which is very convenient. There is a lot of vehicle and foot traffic in front of the house all day and into the night. The house has an outdoor shower (exposed not private) which is very handy for getting off all the sand. The check-in process was problematic and the house wasn’t clean. The house is large with lots of beds so it can comfortably accommodate twofamilies

Unfortunately, we are a large house and are required to follow local vacation rental permit requirements which include getting names and ages of all guests and day visitors on to a formal rental agreement to insure occupancy limits.
This also lets guests know of some of the more important issues concerning the local community like noise, parking and firework restrictions.
And, like all good neighbors, we respect our neighbors right to have peaceful enjoyment of their personal homes. Which has allowed us to accommodate our guests for over 15 years.
Also, we customize the house to the needs of our guests. In most of the rooms we have pairs of extra long twins, which through our registration system you can let us know if you want them made-up into kings, ready for your arrival.
I hope this helps in your decisions to allow us to host your stay.

Cool, sunny days in Santa Cruz
What a wonderful week. We were only steps from the beach. The weather was cool but sunny, a wonderful reprieve from triple digit weather at home.
The house was spacious with lots of nooks for privacy and open space for fellowshipping!!! It was well furnished with everything we needed to cook in the kitchen, play at the beach and entertain ourselves. Ping pong was popular!!!! We even managed a few bike rides, exploring Pleasure Point.
One interesting glitch was the Wharf to wharf race taking place just as we were preparing to depart. The street was closed until 10:30, a bit of an inconvenience for one of our party who wanted to leave early. But overall it was a terrifc family vacation.

Great location, clean home that was well-stocked
Overall we had a nice stay. However, when we arrived we had no idea how to access the house and were not given any instructions on how to get inside. I messaged the host multiple times (email, VRBO app, etc.) and (still) never heard back. After waiting 2+ hours my husband finally found a window to crawl through to get in. The house is in very good shape for how old everything is. It was also very clean but when we arrived had an awful cleaner smell that took a while to get rid of. It is well-stocked with lots of great things like bikes and wetsuits and the hot tub is nice to have as well. The location is great and it has lots of parking. Communication with the host is challenging so if you can deal with that along with 1960's style decor then it's a great place to rent.
Great location, though be prepared to deal with some issues.
We had bathroom issues in 2 of the bathrooms, and one of the washers/dryers were not working. Additionally, I was told in advance that some of the pull out couches were broken. I did not get any follow up info if they were fixed, so one of the guests had to do quite a bit of guess work to find a bed to sleep in over our stay. I also had to cancel my plans the day after thanksgiving due to some aggressive calls from the owner to let someone in to inspect the broken washer/dryer. It frightened my mom, who was the only person staying at the house at the time, and then called me to tell me that it somehow it was her fault that she decided not to let a stranger into a home that we were renting. Location is great though. One minute from beach.

Christmas listing
We liked the house a lot and it's location was good, too. We were charged for anyone who visited while we were there. We had two family members who were only there for one afternoon/evening, which seems weird. Some close friends wanted to visit for a few minutes, but didn't because we didn't want to get charged more. One of our anticipated family members, couldn't come and we had a friend visit for less than an hour. So that should even out, but we don't know yet.
When we arrived the lock box didn't work and it took us almost a half hour to get it to work with the host being on the phone instead of on site. The contract said be there by 4:00 but he wasn't there. The TV in the house didn't work either.
Good: We really liked the house for the size of our family and the location was lovely. We had access to the Two-Six beach and a great view from the deck on the second floor of the house.
Lot's of sleeping and being space and we never felt that we were on top of each other. The kitchen was great and well supplied from pans to coffee cups! There were two refrigerators, which kept us from running home for stuff or shopping a lot! There was space in the garage for some craft work needed to complete some gifts, and wrapping space throughout the house.
I would recommend the house for a large family, including dogs.
I would rent it again if the price was reduced a bit (lots of weird charges) and the two things were fixed.
The location was great! It was an easy walk to the beach for all of us ranging in ages from 2.5 years old to 81. The house has amazing views! It was very spacious with all the amenities and more. We were so thankful the owner was willing to share her home with us.

About the host
Hosted by Jean Gelbart
This property is owned and managed by a single family, and this is our only vacation rental. We are a family of 4th/5th generation Californian's who grew up visiting Santa Cruz for family vacations and romantic get-aways. In 2007, while visiting the beach on just such a trip, we saw this beach house for sale and bought it! Our dream was to be able to visit Santa Cruz overnight periodically throughout the year, and have a space big enough for our family to come together and enjoy the beach. We would not be able to maintain the costs of owning the property without short-term vacationers like you, and we are grateful for the chance to share our lovely beach home and the joy it has brought our family.
Why they chose this property
The house is literally a 20 second walk to beach access, and within 2 blocks on either side there are other beach access points. Within a 5 minute walk there is a trail to go for walks with dogs, and the Live Oak Farmer's Market is just a 2 minute drive. There amazing options close by for surfing, recreational runners, bicyclists, hikers, and bird watching. Fine dining and shopping is just minutes away, as well as cafes, thrift stores, and tasty hole-in-the-wall eateries.
What makes this property unique
In addition to the amazing location, the property itself is special because of the spacious floorplan - 2900 sq. ft. has an open floor plan and comfortably accommodates up to 10 adults. The upstairs kitchen, deck, and living area is made for entertaining and enjoying the ocean views and sea life, and the occasional paraglider! The backyard is also magical - enough room for a large hot tub, hammock, small garden, and lawn, but cozy and intimate. All this is hidden away and secure behind the automatic driveway gate. The ample parking was also a draw for us - 2 cars can fit in the garage, and we have managed to fit an additional 3 cars in the driveway!
