Enjoyed Memorial Day weekend in Sugar Mountain and Banner Elk. The beds were comfortable and the condo was very clean. The gas fireplace is a cozy addition and the large deck was a nice place to relax and enjoy the view. Very quiet, relaxing time!
Over all we enjoyed our stay at this condo. It was cozy and the view is incredible. The negatives are as folllows: there were a lot of fingerprints on the microwave, mirror, and glass patio door. The front door was actually open when we arrived which made us a little nervous at first. Most places supply coffee in some manner but this place does not. If there are high winds this place is very noisy and it can be hard to sleep. That is a trade off for being at the top of a mountain. The roads were well maintained after a snow though and it was easy to drive with our 4 WD car. It’s not super clear where you can get on the slopes from here. That being said we didn’t plan to start at the top of the mountain anyway as our daughter is a beginner.

Top of the World
We enjoyed staying at this property located 5100' above sea level. It was like being on top of the world! Nice property with gorgeous landscaping throughout the complex. It was steps to the chair lift at Sugar Mountain. This time of year, there were lots of mountain bikers on the "slopes".
The property is a very good option for skiing at Sugar. The walk to the slope from the condo while wearing skis is a bit tiring, but not ridiculous. The kitchen is in need of dish towels and the smoke alarm battery needed changed while we were there. Luckily, there was 1 battery in the closet, as it was a middle of the night situation. The condo was a nice place for a weekend jaunt and very quiet. We would stay again. I would recommend bringing a couple of extra throws or blankets as there really was only 1 and our family likes to wrap up at night.

Thank you for your suggestions, Loma! We will share your comments with the homeowner for their consideration.
The condo was nice … great views. Beds and couches were pretty comfortable. Kitchen had most items needed to cook if you choose too. Only two grocery stores in area, so things may be sold out during busy times of the year. Restaurants are OK in the area, but not that many choices.
Few things that need to be aware of:
It’s a lower unit, so you hear everything in unit above you. Gets VERY noisy at times especially if you have renters that do not realize that they are making so much noise. Also has steps into the unit, so this may be a problem for elder tenants. Look at an upper unit if the noise or stairs are an issue for you.
Outside deck furniture is pretty uncomfortable. Cannot sit out too long due to being so hard.
The carpeting near the front door / kitchen is need of a cleaning.
Overall, a nice time …. But note my comments above before booking.

Disliked: Communication
Top of Mountain, beautiful but NO help from Management
First: It was beautiful view, clean condo, fireplace nice.. Very steep drive to top of mountain and I am from NH and used to mountain driving. Would be difficult if icy conditions.. Short walk to top ski lift but can’t get on lift from there. Issues: with TV, access and Fire Alarm battery high on ceiling too tall to reach, started chirping early (5am). Contacted property management via Vrbo app and replied to text message and no reply at all for over 24 hours. We were only there one night and had no access to either TV. One remote the batteries were covered in battery acid so that did not work. No extra batteries in the condo for replacement. Three remotes for living room TV and no instructions on how to use or access neither myself or tech savy teenagers could get to work. Very frustrating. . Paid for late check out at 2pm and cleaning people showed up expecting us to be gone. She said they did not let her know we had late check out as she hauled vacuum & cleaning supplies through the freezing cold so I let her start because I felt bad.
When paying high dollar and staying short time I expect to be communicated with in the manner they give for help. That was not the case. Glad they were not major condo access or safety issue.

Thank you for the review. We are very sorry you weren't able to use the TV. It is always our goal for our guests to be able to use everything the home has to offer. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope we can host you again!
This condo was a home away from home. Everything was ready and the atmosphere was inviting. Accommodations were all set and we didn't want for anything while there. The communication was great. The location was awesome and the condo couldn't have been any better than it was. Clean, inviting and accommodating. Will be back soon.
My daughter and I stayed for one night midweek to ski and tube at Sugar Mountain and everything was great - clean, comfortable, spacious, equipped, and a great view. The only thing I would point out is I guess I was unaware that this property is literally on top of a mountain (maybe it was in the property description and I missed it) - it is a long winding drive up the mountain which wasn't a problem for us, but something to be aware of if you're planning on making trips out to the store, etc.

Great property, Beautiful View!
Our little fam stayed at this property for two nights. It was super clean and had everything we needed for the short stay. If you are going during winter it is absolutely imperative that you have 4WD. This property is literally backs up to the very top of Sugar Mountain and we would not have made it up to the condo on the snowy road without 4WD. As other reviews said, you could technically walk to the slopes but we needed to drive down to the lodge for our tickets, lessons and snow tubing. Instructions for check-in were clear. Lockbox combo was provided first thing on the morning of check in. Beds were super comfy, there is a cozy gas fire place, HUGE deck with an awesome view, kitchen has every single thing you would need and owners provided a couple detergent pods for the washer. If we didn't need to get back to work, we would have booked for another night. It was really great. Thanks to the owners/property managers for a great spot to rent.
The good stuff: The condo was very nice, well furnished, spacious and comfortable. It also had a great view and the kitchen was well stocked. Unfortunately there were several things that came up. The gas fireplace was not working and it took 2.5 days for someone to get back to us and let us know they were waiting for a part that was on order to repair it. In addition, the blinds on the middle window were broken. Upon using the kitchen we found that many of the utensils were not clean and had food stuck to them. Several times I found food items barely under the furniture as if the place was not well vacuumed. Two separate smoke alarms began beeping and had to have batteries replaced (there was only one in the closet, we had to purchase more). All of this would have easily been overlooked if the responsiveness was there but unfortunately we had to call several times and spend too much of our vacation time on the phone. We have yet to hear from the owner regarding "compensation" for these issues.

We are very sorry you did not have a smoother experience while staying with us. The fireplace is now working, and we are retraining our housekeeping staff on meeting our high standards of cleanliness. We hope the compensation offered shows our desire to care for our guests. Thank you!
