Pure relaxation

Everything you need for a wind-down in the country. All you could need is provided in the clean and comfortable gite. Not quite silence - there are sheep a couple of fields away and the hum of insects gorging on the flowers. Walks through the fields and woods in the area from the front door. Genial hosts with good local knowledge, friendly and discrete.

Un havre de paix

En vacances avec notre petit bout de 4 mois, nous avions besoin de calme et le gite d'Irène nous a apporté tout le calme dont nous avions besoin. De plus, sa localisation permet de visiter quelques villes très sympathiques à environ 1h30. Nous recommandons de visiter Nanteuil, un joli village à 20 min du gîte.

Erholung pur im eigenen Rosengarten

Wir hatten sogar einen eigenen Whirlpool im Garten, der in der Anzeige gar nicht erwähnt war. Der Wohnraum und besonders die Küche sind sehr großzügig ausgestattet. Das Tiefkühlfach im Kühlschrank ist etwas klein. Die Gastgeberin war so freundlich, etwas in ihrer Tiefkühltruhe für uns aufzubewahren. Auch bei den sommerlichen Temperaturen, war es drinnen immer angenehm kühl. Die Gegend eignet sich gut zum Fahrradfahren. Am Dorfrand gibt es eine sehr schöne, gemauerte Quelle, bei der man viele Tiere beobachten kann. Dort haben wir Wasseramseln, Bachstelzen und Libellen beobachten können. Ganz in der Nähe auf einem Waldspaziergang sind uns sogar Hirschkäfer begegnet.

Super vacances en charente

La maison est celle que nous recherchions, une maison typique en pierre avec ses poutres en bois à l’intérieur et les lézards à l’extérieur. Nous avons eu beaucoup de chaleur donc la piscine mise à disposition nous a bien servis. La propriétaire, bien que mon anglais ne soit pas bon du tout, a été très accueillante, avec des petits cadeaux à notre arrivée, et très souple au niveau des horaires. Merci encore à elle pour sa gentillesse Nous avons fait beaucoup de visites, beaucoup de villages sont très sympas à voir, de très belles promenades sans besoin de prendre la voiture, des bases nautiques pour le canoë à 15km, etc.. Je recommande donc cette jolie maison à tout le monde

Super séjour en famille

Les propriétaires nous ont accueilli avec gentillesse. Discrets mais attentifs, ils étaient à disposition durant tout notre séjour. Le logement est parfaitement équipé (le four est parfait pour réchauffer le préfou) : le linge de maison est fourni et les lits sont déjà faits ! Qu'il fasse beau ou qu'il pleuve, les très nombreux jeux d'intérieur et d'extérieur fournis (piscine, vélo, ping pong, pétanque, dominos géants, badminton et jeux de société), nous ont permis de bien nous amuser ! Nous recommandons cette location pour des vacances en famille et même des weekend puisque tout est clef en main!

Gite agréable

Accueil sympathique, tout en anglais, lieu charmant et calme. On n'entend que les brebis du champ voisin. Gite bien équipé. Irene, la propriétaire nous dit que la "cuisine anglaise" est très fonctionnelle. Et c'est tout à fait vrai; mais on se demande encore ce qu'elle a d'"anglaise"... Pas de wifi durant notre présence; la ligne Orange aurait été coupée... nous n'avons jamais eu de mot de passe valide pour la box, donc aucun moyen de le constater par nous même. Déconnexion totale donc (car pas de 4G non plus), ce qui était très bien pour des vacances ! Pour être au calme, ce gite est super !!

Wundervolle Tage

Ein ruhiger, friedvoller Platz um die Seele baumeln zu lassen. Das bestens ausgestattete Domizil ist gemütlich und stilvoll eingerichtet. Die Küche geräumig und bestens mit allem, was man braucht bestückt. Wir haben super geschlafen, denn die Matratze war ein Traum. Top sauber. Irene, die Vermieterin ist äußerst freundlich und stets hilfsbereit. Es waren schöne Ferien und die Gegend lädt ein schöne Ausflüge zu unternehmen. Gerne wieder und vielen Dank!

Sejour reposant,au calme.

Nous avons apprécié le calme de cette location, l'aménagement intérieur et extérieur, salon de jardin BBQ, ainsi que les vélos qui étaient mis à notre disposition et avec lesquels nous avons pu rayonner autour de Benest :Canoë, villages remarquables, châteaux. Irène nous a accueilli avec beaucoup de gentillesse, bouquet de fleurs dans la maison, vin. Nous avons eu des échanges très sympathiques malgré le frein de la langue.

Great place to stay

Lovely gite, nice couple very friendly but unfortunately whilst decor etc was lovely for me the basics need tweaking a bit ie: no freeze box, no blinds in the bedrooms, no WiFi and I had to climb into the bath to set the taps for the children to have a shower/bath which I found quite difficult with an arthritic hip. On the plus side there is a full size cooker, microwave and a washing machine so I was able to go home with a clean suitcase of washing. There were dvds to watch, bikes to ride and a pool to cool off in which was a bonus. I do wish Tim and Irene all the best with their gite business and hope to stay there again.

Great stay for 11 nights! 29/07/19 - 09/08/19

It was our first holiday to France and considering we initially had problems with the sat nav our drive down all worked out well in the end! On our arrival Irene and Tim made us very welcome and gave me and the 2 children an introduction / tour around the gite surrounding buildings. The gite itself was very clean, comfortable and had everything we needed to make our holiday a success! Outside is a lovely courtyard where the children can play, this also leads to a bigger area and field if you need to give the children a run out in our case we played football and rounders. There is also a swing and seesaw. The pool area is a nice and clean and big enough for a family of 4. Nearest supermarket that we used was in Champagne Mouton about 10-15 mins away. Nearby there are loads of things to do, all within a 30-45 minute drive. We did river swimming, kayaks, lakes with Aqua jump, local market in Ruffec, Monkey Valley, Confolens. And plenty of other things that we just didn't fit in. Overall we had a wonderful time and i would recommend this property for anyone visiting, the children were already asking during our journey home they wanted to come back next year! Thanks to Irene & Tim for a great holiday, We hope to return next year. Best wishes Dean, Ella-Rose, Oscar.

Beautiful gite in a lovely area, loads to do and everything you need! Loved it!

We had an amazing 10 night stay at this beautiful gite in August. The owner, Irene, who lives next door couldn’t have been nicer or more helpful, giving us loads of ideas to do in the area. Having lived there a while she had loads of local knowledge of what to do with the kids, and where was good to avoid the crowds in the summer holidays! If you want to stay in, the gite has loads to do on site - a lovely garden area to relax / eat outdoors, table tennis, swing and seesaw, and a lovely little pop-up pool that was great for the kids on the lovely hot days! We also used some of the selection of bikes to go for a lovely ride one day which we all loved! Nearby there are loads of things to do, all within a 30-40 minute drive. We did roman ruins (great), river swimming, kayaks, lakes with flumes, dance and music festival, local markets, swimming pools, exotic animal parks and feel we barely scratched the surface. The nearby towns of Confolens and Champagne Mouton are great for all the amenities you need - supermarkets, fuel, boulangeries etc. And ate only 15 mins or so to drive to. Inside the gite the lounge area is great, and Irene provides plenty of books to read, dvds to watch, board games and there are a good few channels on the tv to chose from (although only the kids watched it)!! The kitchen is well equipped, with an oven, microwave and washing machine. The only downsides were no dishwasher (1st world problems), but the washing machine was a better use of space. Also there is no freezer, but Irene was happy to freeze our cool blocks in hers for us! Upstairs is cozy but comfortable. The kids loved the bunk beds and the main bed is pretty big and comfy. The bathroom was nice and the shower amazingly powerful and hot! The whole place was spotlessly clean, with linen and towels provided aplenty. Even had a couple of bottles of vino to drink for us on arrival! Irene is really lovely, and not intrusive at all despite living on site. It was lovely to hear about how she and her hubby had developed the place and she showed us round the next phase which promises to be amazing!! We invited Irene to join us for a bbq on the last night and we had a good laugh chatting into the evening under the stars - and the gas bbq provided was a nice touch! All in all, would give it an 11 out of 10. Loved it and loved the area. Can’t wait to visit again to see more of the region and enjoy the seemingly constant summer sunshine!!

Nous avons été très bien accueilli par Madame Beeby dans un logement très propre et magnifiquement aménagé. La disponibilité de la piscine et autres aménagement (balançoire, obbogan pour les petits, ...). Le gîte disposée également d'un abris pour une voiture. Cette location peux être le départ de nombreuses excursions dans les villages environnants soit à pied ou en ve!o .

Lovely setting in rural france

Wonderful setting not far from benest. Irene greeted us on our arrival and provided as many details of local and not so local amenities as you could need. She was always available if needed but never imposed herself upon us. The gite still appears recently renovated and to a good spec. Loads of activities on site and having bikes to go to the local rivers, bar, shop, tennis court etc was brilliant. It is clearly advertised as for young or small families and we took a slight risk taking 14 year olds who are quite large. Theyfelt their room was a little small but it was still more than adequate for them and didn't detract from the stay at all, particularly as there is so much space elsewhere in the gite and on site. I wasn't aware that if we needed an internet connection it would cost more as it is satellite based but to be honest it was a pleasure to go offline for a while although there is mobile phone reception. We would visit again and thoroughly enjoyed staying with Irene and meeting her grandson. Thanks again for making our time with you so pleasant.

Peace, tranquility and sunshine heaven

Upon arrival greeted by Irene and a welcome glass of wine. Explicit tour of this gite given, it has so many extras above my expectations. I mentioned in my initial enquiry that we were interested in fishing, Irene had all the relevant information and also had fishing equipment and bicycles for us to use. The provision of Al Fresco dining and strategically placed seating to catch all the best sun rays in the pretty courtyard area which is secure. Inside the kitchen is a revelation with lots of storage and a full sized cooker. The lounge area is very comfortable with lots of books to read and DVDs to watch once the sun has set. Upstairs the bedrooms are also very comfortable and spacious, with lots of storage areas, the bathroom has a full size bath and a powerful shower. We had visited this area before, but there was great deal of information available on where to go and what to do, and Irene's 20 years knowledge of the area means we had our own Tourist information officer on site. We visited the restaurants

Peace, relaxation and sunshine

This property is an absolute gem in a scenic rural location. We were welcomed by Irene with a glass of wine and a full tour of the property and the outdoor amenities. When enquiring I asked about fishing, and Irene had sourced information and much to our surprise there was fishing equipment we could use as well as bicycles to get to fishing locations if we did not wish to drive. The gite is as described but the extras in the kitchen are a marvel, with much more storage space than we expected. The bedrooms have plenty of storage space too. There is a powerful shower in the bathroom and lots of fluffy towels are available. The lounge is very comfortable and in the evening once the sun had set we were able to sit and watch a DVD. As it was late April when we visited we did need to use the electric radiators, and these soon took the chill off. The outside courtyard is ideal for al fresco dining and there is seating placed in sun spots all around the property. We had visited the area before but there was a great deal of information on places to visit. Irene is your personal Tourist Information officer as her 20 years knowledge is very useful. We visited recommended restaurants where we found the food and service to be of a great quality. We also visited the Irish Tea rooms in Confolens and walked on the very ancient bridge in this lovely old town. There are several supermarkets nearby and anything you specifically need Irene can advise you on where to go, she will also advise you on which wines are to your taste and budget. We will definitely use this property again, maybe bring the grandchildren next time to take advantage of the pool and the various games and activities supplied. We left this property feeling very relaxed and also sporting spring sun tans, which was great considering it was snowing in England at the time. Thank you Irene hope to see you again soon.

Spa holiday benefits without the price tag

My wife and I decided at quite a late stage that it would be nice to take our twin daughters away for a holiday for the first time without their older 3 siblings - but where to go? Having surfed for hours we finally found this gem and as this was only our second visit to France we only had the site information to go on and that was enough to entice us to the Charente. We arrived at around 9pm to a warm welcome, and the offer of a cold beer, from our host Irene who gave us a brief but full run down of all the accommodation essentials. Before she disappeared to allow us to settle in Irene offered the opportunity of a drive into Champagne-Mouton in the morning as an orientation and shopping run - which was greatly appreciated. The property was exactly as advertised, was fresh and clean with a vase of fresh flowers to welcome us. There were a number of local holiday guide magazines provided which allowed us to plan visits etc, this in conjunction with Irene's 20 years of local knowledge meant we were able to make the most of our stay although to be perfectly honest this holiday was more about completely unwinding rather than a full on 2 weeks of "up and at them". The gite is in a very rural area and without wifi (although available at the local pub - about 2km) or mobile phone provided the perfect opportunity to completely recharge the batteries. The gite was in an exceptionally quiet and peaceful location and with the provision of a range of bicycles the local area could be explored at leisure. That said there are a wide range of activities, excursions and places of interest to pique everybody's attention. One place I would certainly recommend for anybody visiting this region is to visit Oradour-sur-Glane and the velo-rail at Confolens. We would most certainly return again and with a range of accommodation sizes we may even bring the older kids !

We have our own house on site and welcome you to our GITE. We celebrate 20 years for having our wonderful peaceful idyll in rural France in 2017

Why they chose this property

We have loved the Charente for years with its climate, quiet countryside and beautiful woods and rolling landscape. We chose to live on a hill but near to the river so that we have extensive views of the valley. We love the local river which are within easy walking distance.

We wanted tranquillity but easy access to local amenities and towns such as Ruffec, Angouleme, Confolens and Poitiers as these larger towns have wonderful architecture, fantastic restaurants, café culture and additional leisure and shopping facilities. Our grandchildren enjoy the visits to Futuroscope,the lakes and children's parks which are all accessible by car.

Charente enjoys a 'micro' climate and is reported to be the second sunniest place in France, next to the Cote d'Azur. From April through to September are considered the best months, however sometimes the warm weather lingers through to November.

We have recently renovated and restored the GITE so that it is comfortable modern and cosy with space for a family of four to relax in comfort.

What makes this property unique

We are in a rural location with access to local amenities including supermarkets, bars, restaurants, within the property you will find a peaceful relaxing location to really unwind.

We have an extensive garden within our property with playing field, rose gardens and ornamental grass gardens which provide an extra interest in our gardens as they attract unusual local wildlife.

We have a selection of cycles which can be used by agreement.

From May through to September, we can provide an above the ground swimming pool which is located in the owners gardens.
