About this property

Circe & Hare Lodge, a magical 3 BR Romantic Log Cabin Getaway with Hot Tub

Once inside this traditional log cabin, you'll find modern conveniences with rustic charm. A tall stone fireplace is set within the middle of the living room, towering along the wooden stairs to the second floor. The living room/reading area both enjoy views of the fireplace. The house boasts an open, cozy floor plan. The kitchen/eating area opens out to the natural deck overlooking the hillside/river & distant views of mountain tops. Bathroom hosts updated washer/dryer facilities & is located on the first floor. The second floor features 3 bedrooms. Open the sliding barn doors at the top of the stairs into the romantic master bedroom, with antique factory glass windows overlooking the downstairs & fireplace. A big, luxurious bed offers views through the door onto a balcony overlooking the yard/distant mountains. There is nothing quite like a Vermont starry night sky viewed from your bedroom balcony! A large walk-in closet is found at the top of the stairs - additional linens & blankets are found here, as well as plenty of storage space for luggage & hanging clothing. The other cozy bedrooms are located on the other side of the hall, one featuring raw- edge wooden headboard & antique dresser for storage, and the other, with log-cabin siding, rocking chair & closet.

House Rules:

Our mission is to help guests create wonderful memories in our cozy home. For us to do so, we would appreciate if you would follow these house rules & confirm that they have been reviewed UPON BOOKING.
This is to ensure that if there is any reason the House Rules cannot be followed, you will have the option of canceling the booking penalty-free as we have a Strict Cancellation Policy. Thank you in advance & truly appreciate your cooperation!

-By booking with us, guest agrees to pay a Security Deposit prior to check-in. Booking guest acknowledges that access to property will be denied until deposit is paid in full or reservation is forfeited without refund. Payment is collected through Venmo/Paypal/Personal Check & is potentially refundable if all rules are honored & no damage is found. Refund is dependent upon ALL guests in the group honoring all House Rules & is initiated after check-out (usually within hours of your check-out) & after all payments have cleared & any needed resolutions made. Our goal is to provide a full refund of your security deposit. Security Deposit must be paid 30 days prior to check-in, and is typically 80-100% of the cost of your stay. *To date, we're happy to report that we've been able to return all security deposits in full as of this policy change! We want both parties to feel protected & comfortable, so if you'd like to request a chat about the deposit, please feel free.

-All guests staying at the house must be registered in advance of check-in. We require full name, address, phone number, and vehicle information (for vehicles coming to the property) for ALL guests included in a reservation.

-Absolutely NO third-party bookings. Only booked & registered guests may stay at the property.

-Keep noise to a minimum after 10pm (be respectful of our neighbors).

-No smoking/vaping inside the home, on deck or porches. Smoking/vaping is allowed away from the house in the driveway, but please dispose of cigarette butts and/or vape materials properly. If cigarette/vape smoke is identified in the house, a hefty cleaning fee will be applied.

-Please wash your dishes after use. If dishes are not properly washed, extra cleaning fees may be applied. Sorry, but the house does not have a dishwasher.

-No food/beverages in the living room/bedrooms. If food is spilled on furniture/pillows/bedding/etc, cleaning or replacement fees will apply.

-Feel free to use the kitchen for home cooking, but please, no highly pungent or odorous cooking that will lead to lingering smells after check-out.

-No shoes in the house (there are boot trays by each entrance).

-Please do not rearrange our furniture without permission.

-No extra guests/no parties or events (without prior permission), no illegal activity/drug use or inappropriate behavior.

-Please follow all check-out rules prior to departure, located in our house manual in the kitchen. Failure to do so may result in additional fees.

**There is a security camera on the driveway, which is on at all times - in the event that extra, unpaid/unapproved guests show up, you will immediately be asked for payment for these guests or you will be asked to leave the property for dishonest booking practices. This is a remote area & being asked to leave would not be convenient for you. We do this to protect our home & it's value and our policies. We are honest with guests, and we ask for reciprocity for a positive experience overall.

-PARKING: There is parking for 2 cars, side by side, in front of shed.

-This home is located in a natural setting, and has many outdoor spaces (decks, stone paths, lawn, shed, porch swing, etc) where you may see or come into contact with animals or insects (such as squirrels, rabbits, turkeys, birds, bear (on occasion), porcupines, spiders, mosquitoes, bees, slugs, snails & everything in between. If you or your guests are uncomfortable with natural creatures, this home is likely not the right choice for you. Opening & closing windows & doors is an opportunity for bugs to get inside, which can happen! You will not be reimbursed for issues involving natural creatures, spiderwebs, bird poop, etc. We take all issues brought to our attention very seriously, and will treat any serious issues immediately. Seeing an occasional insect however, is not grounds for departure or refund. Please be sure prior to booking that you & your guests are comfortable in this type of natural setting.

-PETS: ONLY well-behaved dogs allowed with prior permission. No other animals allowed. Please have dog's nails trimmed before arrival, as we have hardwood floors throughout. No pets on furniture. Traveling can be stressful for dogs - if you are concerned about your dog causing damage, it must be crated while you are not on site (you must bring crate). You are responsible for cleaning up after your dog around the property. It is recommended that you do not allow your dog to run freely on property without supervision, as there are wild animals in the area. If there is damage caused by pets, additional fees will apply. A PET CLEANING FEE of $25/night will be collected separately through VRBO, which must be paid prior to your arrival.

The Pet Cleaning Fee covers the extra time for our housecleaning service to clean: dog hair from carpets/pillows/blankets/bedding (often extra laundering is necessary), doggie nose/paw marks on glass doors & windows, doggie odors throughout the house. Our goal is to leave no trace that a dog was there prior to our next guest.
*Most rentals in the area do not allow guests to bring dogs. This is a privilege that we afford to our guests - please respect our policies so that we can continue to do so.

-Longer Stays: Guests staying over 7 days (10-14 day stays or more), will have a home inspection at the 7-day mark. This is to ensure there is no damage that will require our attention prior to the next guest's arrival. A basic cleaning service is also required at the 7-day mark for 2-week stays or longer, at the guest's expense (this is usually a couple of hours for basic cleaning.) If guest would like to forego cleaning on the 7th day, we will charge $300 for cleaning up front instead (this is the cost of 2 cleaning visits). This is to be agreed upon when booking.

**We reserve the right to contact authorities or to ask guests to leave immediately should they violate our House Rules.

Amazing doesn’t begin to describe it
A beautiful property that exceeds expectations from the listing. Leslie and Matt were the most welcoming, communicative hosts. You can feel the love they have for their home and VT. It was an amazing stay and we hope to be back soon.

Lovely little get away!
This beautiful property allowed us to unwind and relax on our 29th wedding anniversary. The front porch bed became my morning oasis! So enjoyed cooking in the kitchen and found the property had all we needed! The area is beautiful and we found plenty of places to hike. I think we visited every general store!

Magical
Leslie and Matt’s place is what you picture when you think of a magical cabin in the woods. They’ve thought of every detail that makes the place both comfortable and luxurious. My only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer!!

About the host

A little bit about Matt & I, and how Circe & Hare Lodge came to be~ 18 years ago I started an organic gardening business & have a background in art. I have a keen eye for creating beauty, inside & out! I’m wholeheartedly devoted to doing right by the environment, starting with our local ecology. In addition to having my hands in the dirt everyday, I consult with homeowners & am actively doing speaking engagements with groups to promote organic gardening. I am currently writing a gardening column for a newspaper to spread awareness for eco-friendly landscape practices. I love gardening, dancing, being physically active & hanging out with our dog, Ted. I installed the gardens at the cabin, but I'm just getting started there! I plant in a naturalistic style, which I call wildscaping. Matt is a musical instrument-maker whose work is highly sought after worldwide. He is also co-owner of a business that specializes in accessories for drum sets. He maintains a client list of the who’s who in music and loves his work in the music industry. He also has a deep appreciation for architecture, furniture & design - all of which he poured into our cabin!

Why they chose this property

Circe and the Hare- We hung one of our favorite paintings on the wall “Empire of Mind”, painted by a friend of ours. This woman with antlers, sitting in a snowy landscape, reminds us of the mythological goddess “Circe”. Standing back she looked so magical and right for the space, as if it were hers and she was there to watch over it. We couldn’t resist naming the place after her! Now, for the Hare. I'm in love with the snowshoe hares of Vermont (and all wildlife, really). Snowshoeing in the mountains around the cabin last winter, we found endless trails of snowshoe hare tracks, but with the snow-white coats they grow for winter, they remained elusive to us. We never spotted one until one day in spring after all the snow melted a very curious snowshoe hare appeared on the back deck peering into the glass door at us! Since then he visits often - after all the times we came downstairs for our morning coffee and were greeted by him, we knew we had to dedicate the cabin to this little trickster as well. As for the cabin, Matt and I spent over a year and a half doing all of the renovations ourselves. It was a true labor of love, we set out to make it artistically and uniquely ours and never thought of it as a rental. It’s our home away from home and and hope to share it with people who appreciate the same things in life. We want our guests to be comfortable as if it’s their home away from home as well. Greensboro, Vermont is a very special place, & if you find yourself here you’ll probably notice that there is something more about it than just being scenic and beautiful. Chances are you won’t be able to put your finger on exactly what makes it so wonderful, but you'll know that everything just feels right!
