About this property
Peaceful Highland cottage sleeping 6 in comfort
The house is let as a whole, with one double and two twin bedrooms. There is a large, well-equipped kitchen and dining room with a lovely open plan sitting room with a log stove. There is a new hard tennis court you can use, and fishing is often available during May, June & July. Dalmigavie lies at 1200 ft, and is surrounded by miles of empty 'Monahdliath Mountains'. There is a long track from the house up the glen and then into the hills. During the Spring when birds are nesting, we ask guests to avoid walking on the open hill, especially with dogs. Almost every British bird of prey has been seen at Dalmigavie. David and Lorna Paton, look after everything at Dalmigavie, and have been there for 25 years. They live in a cottage close by.
Dalmigavie is 6 miles off the A9 near Tomatin. It is 40 minutes from Inverness airport, and 20 minutes from the station at Carrbridge. Two hours from Edinburgh. A car is needed, and the last 100m to the house is up a steep vehicular track. There are several good golf courses in the vicinity. The coast is 45 minutes away. The weather can be wild and cold, or warm and balmy, sometimes on successive days!
House rules: No dogs allowed in the house accept by prior arrangement. No smoking. Dogs to be kept on leads outside (sheep, deer, red squirrels) and nesting birds in the Spring - woodcock, curlew, oyster catchers, green plovers, grouse, amongst others.
Please treat the house, grounds, river and hills with care and respect. Once you cross our bridge over the river Findhorn into Dalmigavie estate you enter a little world of your own.
If you enjoy fishing, you can take a day or two of salmon fishing on 4 miles of the Findhorn at Dalmigavie at a cost of £55 per day. Rods are not provided. Let us know in advance in case it is already booked. We can take up to 4 rods at a time.

This is a beautiful property. Ideal for our family of 6 for a two night stop on our journey further north to Orkney. We loved the property and the surroundings and would happily have stayed much longer. Highly recommended.
The Highland Cottage was a beautiful, peaceful retreat that truly captured the charm and natural beauty of Scotland. Lorna and David were incredibly kind and helpful, making us feel welcome throughout our stay. The cottage was spotless, comfortable, and thoughtfully equipped with everything needed for a relaxing visit. I would absolutely recommend the Highland Cottage to anyone looking for a memorable stay in Scotland!
Wow! What a beautiful place to call home for a couple of days!! It was cozy and felt like home. Perfect for a family of four with teens! We enjoyed the views from the window and going for walks by the river. Would definitely stay here again if we are ever back in the area! It was well appointed with everything we needed and the wood burner was so cozy when it snowed a little :)
Amazing views and peaceful location. Property is designed wonderfully for families, but not as much for multiple couples. Lorna was very friendly! Kitchen was well appointed and the fireplace was a huge bonus! Few suggestions, upgrade to a washer/dryer unit or, at the very least, dry the towels in the main lodge’s dryer. The hand dried towels were like sandpaper. Also, since the females can’t dry their hair in the bathrooms, please have a mirror need outlets in the bedrooms or hallway. We would recommend foreign drivers arrive during the daylight hours.
Very cozy place with a spectacular view of the valley. Nice and quiet with deer roaming the property. Close enough to Inverness but far enough in the countryside to relax.
We had a fantastic stay in the cottage at Dalmigavie. With only two of us, the cottage itself was much larger than our needs--three bedrooms and two baths, with a great kitchen and expansive living room with well-maintained fireplace, but we enjoyed having all of the space. The kitchen was terrific for our needs, the bedroom with the beautiful view was amazing, and we also appreciated the extra tourist brochures and magazines that helped us decide what to do with our time (the falconry experience in the Cairngorms was well worth every pound!!!!). The cottage was sparkling clean and the beds, bedrooms and bedding were comfortable, clean, and restful. Wildlife was abundant, and when we arrived a herd of red deer were in the front yard (and we saw plenty more during our stay). We hiked above the cottage and saw a grouse, a glimpse of a hare, multiple oystercatchers and pheasants, plus pine marten scat, and more red deer sign as well as spectacular scenery. We were lucky that my husband could arrange to flyfish on the river and although he only got a few bites from native species, he had a lot of fun catching browns in the stocked ponds, all on flies. He’s still looking for that tiger trout. Lorna was an amazing hostess, and we appreciated her extra help with the cottage and especially with the fishing. Sir Edward graciously answered our questions. All in all an A peaceful, relaxing, and wonderful visit, and we are very much looking forward to returning someday!

Wonderfully equipped cottage in a beautiful remote location outside of Inverness.
Six of us (3 couples; same family) stayed in this cottage and it was perfect for us.
This location was stunning! We loved how off the beaten path it was and wish we could have stayed longer. I would highly recommend this location to families. Thank you for letting us enjoy your beautiful estate!
This property was beautiful on the inside and out. Plenty of beautiful sites to see and explore. We had a fantastic stay. It was very clean, the shower was warm, and the fireplace was cozy. We would stay here again if ever in the area!
This property was simply amazing. The house has a lived in, homey feel and the views are breathtaking. We had a heard of local deer right outside our windows in the morning, and the property gives lots of opportunities for exploration with fishing and bikes right on the premises. We definitely hope to be back to this property in the future!
We couldn't have better things to say about this property. The drive in is a little tricky and small but beautiful. Goats everywhere, deer at dusk, peasants. It was the best. The cottage was comfy and cozy, we each had our own bathrooms which was so nice after staying in cramped hotels during our trip. We want to come again in a few years and highly recommend!
Stayed for three days to get away from it all and this place met all of our expectations. Surrounded by beautiful countryside right on the Findhorn river, nature all around us. Had the most relaxing time. The house is large but cozy, comfortable in every way, the bed we slept in, in the main room was the most comfortable I have ever slept in so had a good restful sleep. Host was lovely, discreet, and helpful. We would love to come back again.
The house was cozy, warm, and big enough to spread out in. And it’s situated on a beautiful property - just gorgeous and so inviting for exploring. The owner came up to meet us the night we arrived - very nice and accommodating.
Great location, stunning views and a very cozy living room. It was clean and warm and having an evening fire after a long walk in the woods felt like home. Would absolutely return.
Me, my wife and two small children (2 and 4) had a lovely time in the Keeper's cottage – the perfect size for a family of four set in a beautiful location with everything we needed for our long weekend away. The log fire was delightful (and well stocked with coal and wood) and the surroundings of the cottage were idyllic. Would definitely stay again!
Location is outstanding. Feel like in another world. Cottage is very cosy and very well furnished. Ideal for families specially with young children.plenty of out side place to walk run around or just sit down and relax .
Will definitely book again

Thank you for your welcoming review. I am so glad you had a relaxing time here and do hope you return in the future
Quiet, peaceful, serene, beautiful slice of heaven in Scotland. The cottage had plenty of space, everything we needed & then some. Spacious rooms, great gathering place in the living room, all the amenities we needed. The host & managers were very nice, helpful, offering tips for walks, visits into town & more. Plenty of wildlife on walks of the property & great place to just soak in the views with your morning tea. Tomatin is a quaint, small Scottish town with a nice distillery & a cafe/store. We hope to return here in the future.
