Welcome to Hale Koolau, Haena! Located on the north shore of Kauai, Hale Koolau sits behind wooden gates among the tropical landscape of a private, half-acre (2023m2) lot. With spectacular views of Bali Hai (Mt. Makana) and just a short stroll to Tunnels (Makua) beach, Hale Ko'olau invites guests to immerse themselves in an authentic Hawaiian retreat.

This 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom getaway is drenched in natural light and boasts an expansive, wrap-around lanai, perfect for indoor/outdoor living. The master bedroom has a California King-size bed and en suite bathroom with a stone shower. The second bedroom has a queen-size bed. The large, third bedroom aka the bunk room is separate from the main living space and can sleep up to nine guests with an attached bathroom. All bedrooms are equipped with its own AC, plush linens and beddings and its own bathroom.

Spend the mornings or evenings relaxing on the lanai where views of emerald green mountains remind you of the appeal of island life. Soak away the day in the newly added hot tub.

Amenities include and outdoor shower, lots of outdoor space and lounging areas which includes the upstairs covered lanai and downstairs "hang out" spot with amply furniture, BBQ and an outdoor table.

Take a 10-minute drive along the coastline and over several one-lane bridges back to Hanalei, famous for its crescent-shaped bay and small-town charm. Add another 10 minutes to your drive and find yourself in the resort community of Princeville, where you can golf oceanfront holes at the Makai Golf Club.

The property also has an additional guest house (1-bedroom/1 bath, up to 4 guests) called “Ko'olau Treehouse,” which can be rented in combination with Hale Ko'olau to have the entire estate to you and your guests.

Escape civilization and enjoy your own personal paradise retreat at Hale Ko'olau.

*Note there are two homes on the property. Both are vacation rentals. Hale Ko'olau is the main front house. The Ko'olau Tree House is the guest cottage located in the back. Both can be rented separately or the entire estate (main + guest).

The home was very spacious for ten people even on a rainy day when we couldn’t go outside. You never felt like you were on top of each other. This home is loaded with everything you could need in the kitchen to cook big meals for your family. Downstairs you have everything you could need for your trips to the beach. The beach is a short walk from the house. It is beautiful and no one around for miles however November is the start of the winter season with big waves and it made that beach extremely dangerous for swimming. We couldn’t go in the water but you aren’t far from other beautiful beaches where you can snorkel and swim. If you are looking for a quiet spot away from the hustle and busyness this is your place. We loved this rental and would love to stay here again.

Gorgeous, Private and Relaxing

Fabulous north shore location, only minutes from the beach and extraordinary sunsets. Quick walk to coffee in the morning and a meal in the evening. Also perfect to stay in and cook at home with well stocked kitchen, BBQ, great lanai and plenty of space for the whole family. Already planning our next visit !

perfect for two families

This house is great. Amazing layout with great indoor/outdoor lounge areas and a separate bunk room with plenty of space for lots of kids. The home is well equipped with all the necessary amenities (including plenty of towels, boogie boards, beach chairs, etc) but it still feels authentically Hawaiian on a lush, private property. Walking distance to a nice beach but we usually drove the 15 minutes into Hanalei for beaches and restaurants.

Great property!

Had a great time staying at Jeff's place for 4 nights. The house is really cool and being able to walk to Tunnels Beach was fantastic! I will echo some of the other reviews about the noisy neighbors because unfortunately we got neighbors next door with a lot of kids who were really loud even late at night. That's no fault of the owner though and overall still a good stay.

Beautiful private treehouse in a remote town on the north coasr

We enjoyed spending the first part of our honeymoon in this well appointed home. The location between Hanalei and the end of the road at Ha'ena was great for seeing the sights of he north shore and snorkeling tunnels beach. Our only problem with the location was getting stranded on the wrong side of the Hanalei bridge due to heavy rain and flooding for one night. Other than that we had a wonderful time and enjoyed this well thought out and beautiful home.

My wife and I recently stayed in the above property for five nights. Hands down, this was the cleanest rental we have ever booked. The kitchen appliances were all "top of the line". The balcony served as a perfect spot for relaxing and eating breakfast, looking out over the well manicured backyard. The house is in walking distance of Tunnels Beach and very close to several nice restaurants. We loved the north shore, but the one lane bridges can be tricky to navigate at times. I would highly recommend this property, in fact we plan to return next year and stay in the same location.

Incredible retreat

We absolutely loved this house- we were originally a little concerned by the treehouse right next door and it was hard to get a sense of how well that would work. It was fantastic- whoever stayed was very quiet and we hardly saw them. All the lanai for the big house are on the other side too. The house was very clean and spacious- the bunk room is actually a separate room which worked great- our kids stayed there. The house is so well stocked- from the kitchen to beach gear to cleaning supplies. The beach is a short walk away- we also walked to tunnels Beach (very close by) and hanalei colony resort for coffee and dinner multiple times. Would absolutely stay again.

Has everything you need for the beach (boogie boards, beach chairs, umbrella, cooler, wagon, beach towels). Home is short walk to quiet beach which I saw 2 turtles. .6 miles to Tunnels beach which spent an entire day there - GORGEOUS. 10 min to coffee shop and restaurant/bar. 12 min drive to Hanalei town with many cute shops and restaurants and tour activities. Hope to come back soon and stay here.

Magical

We have visited the island a few times as well as having family on Maui. This little piece of heaven was by far the best place we have stayed. Everything you need is there which made travel light. Walking to a beautiful Beach and restaurant for short trips and a beautiful drive for Day trips. The house is clean and bug Free which has been a problem other places on the island. The key code was awesome so we never worried about loosing the key. We loved the privacy of the upstairs patio having morning coffee outside​ looking at the lush garden was awesome. The climate at the house was the best on island. Never too Hot beautiful rainbow every morning! Thank you for making this place available, the experience was perfect.
