The sea of tranquility!

We recently had the pleasure of staying at this incredible ocean-side cottage nestled among the towering redwoods, and it was everything we hoped for and more. The views were absolutely breathtaking – the cottage overlooks the rugged coastline, with the mist rolling in from the ocean, making for a truly magical atmosphere, especially with the stormy weather during our stay. Watching the waves crash against the cliffs while surrounded by the serenity of the redwoods was a highlight of our trip.While the weather was a bit stormy during our visit, it only added to the charm and cozy vibe of the cottage. The sound of the rain and wind outside was so peaceful, and the warmth inside made it feel like the perfect escape.A special shout-out to the property manager, who was exceptional! We noticed a minor ant issue upon arrival, and though it wasn’t a big concern, we appreciated how quickly and efficiently the manager handled it. They were responsive, professional, and made sure everything was taken care of immediately, ensuring our stay was smooth and comfortable.This cottage is truly a gem, offering a perfect blend of nature, tranquility, and excellent service. We can't wait to return for another stay!

Comfort with a view!

Loved our stay here. Was the perfect size for a couple. Great location near all the things we wanted to do. Very clean and comfortable with a better view than we expected. Also liked the more than adequate lighting throughout. Would stay here again and recommend highly.

Beautiful!

Alder Cottage was the perfect place to stay for our trip to hike in the Redwoods! The home was comfortable and had all we needed. We were serenaded by sea loins and the views of the ocean from the cottage are amazing!

Great Getaway

Redwoods adventure

Very well stocked with every tool we needed. Hot tub was a nice addition once we were done hiking. Bed was comfortable as well. Fairly small but fine for 2!

You were able to see the ocean from the cottage. As you went to the overlook on the property you could see and hear the sea lions. The cottage was set up to meet all our needs while there, including meal preparation and eating.

Very private, quiet & pleasant, but...

As some other reviewers noted... that couch is NOT comfortable for sitting, as the cushions slide forward. No reading lights in living room. (We moved one of the bedroom lamps there so we could read.) Bed was awfully SOFT. Nice newish Bosch dishwasher but no DW detergent? So we hand-washed everything with the green Palmolive dish soap. On the plus side, it was clean and well-maintained. Good appliances. Quiet, private, very pleasant little vacation home, overall. We'd probably stay there again but we'd bring our own reading lamps! And some teaspoons...

Perfect, except....

Although over the years we have stayed in close to forty VRBO properties, this was our first experience with a management company and I was somewhat apprehensive as I'm used to dealing directly with the owners. No need to worry. VACASA was terrific. They responded quickly to questions and came immediately when we had a small issue upon arrival. Due to the wildfires in the area creating poor air quality, we were relegated to staying indoor 24X7 the first four days of our week-long stay. Again, no problem, the cottage was immaculate, well appointed and we had lots of indoor activities to keep us busy (puzzles, art projects, reading, movies, etc.) The kitchen is beautiful and beautifully equipped. Great dishes, pots and pans, linens, etc., etc. So why are we giving a 4 rating instead of a 5....Two reasons. 1) My husband enjoys reading when he gets up in the morning and usually late in the evening. The lighting in this cottage is definitely NOT conducive to reading. VACASA did come and replace a burned out bulb for us, but the only lighting in the living/dining area is suspended from a very high ceiling so it doesn't help if one wishes to read. There are lots of windows so if it is a bright day, no problem, but that doesn't help with overcast days or early/late reading needs. Several other reviews have mentioned this shortcoming so the insufficient lighting needs to be seriously addressed. We had to bring the two large lamps from the bedroom into the living room each day so we could read and do art work. 2. The sofa looks great until one sits on it...then the bottom cushions immediately begin to move forward leaving you sitting in a cavity that is most uncomfortable. Putting a throw pillow in the cavity doesn't help...the cavity continues to grow so you are constantly having to stand up and push the cushions back into place, only to have them travel again. And just so you know the sofa is the only seating option for watching t.v. Time for a new sofa??? We loved the location and the charming cottage, and would like to re-book but we could not do so until we were assured these two items had been addressed.
