About this property

Lakeside Stone Cottage on 6 acres on Hammond--pet friendly

. Peaceful Lakeside Home on 6 acres. This is the place you are looking for--once you come, no other rental will do. Hammond pond is a seasonal private lake that no motorized boats are allowed on. PLEASE NOTE the lake starts being drained in early July. It typically takes about 5 weeks to become unswimmable. If the snow melt is high and the ditch is continuing to fill the lake the lake should stay relatively full until 5 weeks after the ditch stops bringing the snow melt. THIS IS STILL A FABULOUS PEACEFUL PLACE. Watch the wild geese raise their young or the deer graze in the meadow.

Our home has a fully stocked Granite kitchen, Tempurpedic mattress in master, and stone fireplace (gas). This place has it all--views, trees, meadows, wildlife, walking trails (dirt road), seasonal lake for kayaking or canoes. Quaint newer home with incredible charm-- BBQ, covered porch.

Hammond pond is a seasonal 70 acre lake that attracts wildlife and local fishermen. Nestled between Mount Shasta and Black Butte to the east and the 'Eddys' to the west, abundant day hike opportunities exist. If you are not up to climbing the 14,000 ft Mount Shasta, the Pacific Crest Trail offers many easier day hikes--one of my favorites is from the top of Stewart Springs road to Deadfall Lakes--an easy, relatively flat 4 mile (one way), spectacularly beautiful hike. The 'Park's Creek' trailhead is about 30 minutes from the house.

Another gem is the McCloud Falls trail--make sure you don't miss the Middle Falls! McCloud is about 15 miles east of Mt Shasta City on Highway 89. The Falls are a few miles east of McCloud at the 'Fowler's' turnoff.

There is also a maze of dirt roads to explore that connect the homes and properties of 'Hammond Ranch'. Besides the Lake, many creeks flow through the Ranch--the Shasta River (just a stream at this point), Dale Creek and Eddy Creek. Following Dale Creek road past the house to Dale Creek, crossing Dale Creek (you have to wade) and then on to Eddy Creek offers a wonderful 8 mile round trip. Hike or mountain bike along a minimally travelled, relatively flat, bumpy dirt road. Wildflowers abound and the road winds along a hillside that offers dramatic views of Mount Shasta and the valley. You may take quads along the roads--but please observe the 15 mph speed limit on the private roads.

Whether you use our home as a base camp or a place to unwind, you will find that you don't want to leave the spell that it casts over you. When I have guests the most common thing I hear in the morning is 'How do you leave this place to go to work?' This is not just a place to stay--it is a destination!

Exquisite get-away

Lovely cottage with all amenities, with a beautiful view of (now dry in November) lake, which looks like a golden meadow. Wonderful kitchen, comfy beds, peaceful location with no observable neighbors and sense of quiet and solitude, but only a few minutes to Mt. Shasta. Perfect for 4 adults.

Wonderful oasis

Cute cabin tucked amongst the trees with loads of outdoor space. Well appointed, comfy beds and spacious enough for our party of four. We enjoyed the canoe and trails during the day, and games, cooking and the Olympics in the evening.

Wonderfully relaxing and close to Siskiyou County's best

The host was very helpful and communicative. The cottage was well kept and clearly a project of love. We had a wonderful relaxing stay and also enjoyed the nearby bounties of Siskiyou County. We are already thinking about another stay!

Family snow trip with dogs

Very comfortable and well appointed place. Beautiful picture windows, and stunning views of Shasta just a short walk away. Ample outdoor space for our four footed companions to romp. Not too far from civilization, but far enough to enjoy amazing quiet. Loved our stay.

Cottage on the Lake

Cozy and clean cottage on a peaceful private lake that is home to delightful resident geese. Furnishings are comfortable and high end with quality linens. The owner responded promptly with our requests regarding WiFi and TV service. We really enjoyed our time here and hope to return.

Amazing location

The house was nicely furnished, great kitchen, lovely deck. There was water in the reservoir and the swimming was great. We brought paddleboards and floaties and had relaxing afternoons enjoying the warm water and spectacular views of the mountain. Close to many hikes and downtown Mt Shasta. Highly recommended!

Great Family Vacation House

This house was a dream vacation for our two little boys ages 7 and 9. We explored the property seeing frogs, tadpole, deer, geese, and the list goes on. They played out in nature while this mommy enjoyed the view and cooking in the gorgeous kitchen. We can't wait to come back and make this place a tradition for our family.

Beautiful cabin on the lake

We had an amazing time on the lake. Was perfect for a nice and quiet getaway. The property is beautiful and we spent a lot of time on the water in the canoe. Getting to town is a 15mm drive so make sure you pick up items you need before you stay at the house. Cell service was excellent for T mobile. Thank you!

Peaceful getaway

The stone cottage is a wonderful gem! Sitting on the back deck was such a treat - we saw deer, hares, quail, cranes, tiny frogs and endless butterflies. Such a peaceful place. The kitchen had everything we needed. The beds were very comfortable and we loved the spacious master bed/bath. Even during our 108-degree days, we were very comfortable with the air conditioning. We loved that our dog could be a part of our vacation too, she was so happy. This is truly a special place - the creeks, wildflowers and overall serenity were exactly what we needed. Would definitely recommend.

Nice place to stay

We loved our stay in this quiet little home. Its large windows help you feel like you are in the pines next to the lake without leaving the comfort of the inside. We came in December and we didn't play outside much but it looks heavenly! Fire pit and access to the little lake is right there. This listing says it can stay 7 people however I think 4 is more reasonable. There is a blow up mattress that you can air up in the master and a hide a bed in the ottoman (but it was very dusty and unclean). My boys slept two on the queen and 3 on the floor. Also the heating is a little weird you need to keep all the room doors open if you don't like it cold while you sleep. The kitchen was well stocked with tools (it took us a bit to find the fridge as it's in the drawers). We enjoyed soaking in the tub and having the laundry/dryer was a lifesaver after camping. Overall we really enjoyed this home.

Nice, quiet getaway

Thank you for letting my Wife and I stay at your nice house. I was kind of expecting the water level to be really low on Hammond pond based on a previous review. We learned from a local there that it was from Lake Shasta 's water being low in that they decided not to fill Hammond Pond all the way. But, if you walked around the left side of the property, there is definitely more water around that side. We happened to be there on a very hot week (95 degrees +). The house did manage to cool down in the evening. Thank goodness for the nice shade from the big pines. I wouldn't count on the water being full this year. All in all, we had a great time.

Just a note for travelers

It is a beautiful property in the pines. Very scenic in every window, nice walks with nice neighbors. I’m used to the old VRBO rentals where people were putting out shower soap, conditioner, shampoo, potholders, user guides to basic things like under mount fridge, heater/hvac (good luck with that). It does not really feel like it sleeps 7 as described, I slept with one kid, my mom the other. Otherwise it would have been a sloppy mess and not comfortable sleeping with the pull out. My mom froze in the master because I could not turn on her heater, more instructions would be perfect. It was my choice, this is my opinion. I have been doing VRBO exclusively because of the extra’s and this was my first of not getting any.

The location of this cottage is very scenic and peaceful. The seasonal lake had dried up by the time of our our late September/early October stay, but we enjoyed watching the birds and other wildlife in the resulting meadow. Everything in the kitchen worked well, and the bed was very comfortable. We would definitely rent again.

We built this home in 1994 after purchasing the property in 1992.

Why they chose this property

Once you come you will know why this property was the one we would never let go of. He always loved flat land and I always loved views...the minute we walked onto this land, we knew we were staying.

What makes this property unique

We designed this home to take full advantage of the views of the lake while minimizing the road. Because this is a small home, we also did not want to waste space with hallways. Both bedrooms are mini-suites at opposite ends of the house. The guest bedroom has its bath just steps from the door. This bath is the main bath for the house.
