Spacious, pet friendly 4-bedroom Highland cottage with access to 12,000 acre estate
Located near Wester Ross on the western edge of the Scottish Highlands is Stag Lodge. This spacious, pet friendly cottage comfortably accommodates up to eight in four bedroom and is within easy reach of Plockton and Applecross, and the glorious beaches on the West Coast of Scotland.
It is the cottage's location within the 4,000 acre Glencarron Estate that makes it really special. There are four peaks over 3,000 ft accessed from the Estate and four more within an easy drive, so it's an ideal spot for "Munro Baggers". There are wonderful walks from the cottage, and salmon and trout fishing and clay-pigeon shooting can all be organised from the cottage owners.
Stag Lodge is a classic Victorian estate workers cottage that has been recently refurbished to create a spacious, elegant holiday home for friends or families. The cottage is comfortably furnished and equipped to a high standard.
On the ground floor of the cottage there is a large lounge with open fire and doors opening directly onto the patio, which has wonderful views of the Highlands. Off the lounge is the well-equipped kitchen, which is fitted with a wide range of appliances, including a fridge/freezer, an electric twin oven with hob and a dishwasher. There is also a handy utility room where you will find the washing machine and tumble dryer. The final room downstairs is a spacious double bedroom with views of the glen and plenty of storage, this bedroom also benefits from its own en-suite shower room.
The final three bedrooms are all located on the first floor of the cottage and are set up as twins with full size single beds. They share the first floor family bathroom, which is fitted with a bath with overhead shower, a wash basin and a WC.
Outside, Stag Lodge has a good sized garden, which is home to lot of local birds and wildlife. The views from here are beautiful both during the day and at night when you can admire the stars.
Apart from the amazing scenery right outside the cottage, there are also plenty of places to visit with the Isle of Skye, Plockton and the rest of the Highlands to explore. The area is also ideal for a number of activities, including walking, cycling and water sports.
Please note that Stag Lodge is a semi-detached cottage set above the road, it lies beside the estate stalker's cottage and has an enclosed garden, so dogs and children cannot escape!

A Homely Base in a Soggy Landscape
Stag Cottage was a wonderful base for Munro walking in the Achnasheen area. It is ideally placed within fabulous mountains, with good road access and close to excellent local facilities in Lochcarron. The cottage provided comfortable and spacious accommodation that suited the needs of a tired and wet group of friends for a week in June. Its clothes drying capabilities were sorely tested but came out with flying colours. The kitchen facilities were excellent and the lounge area was huge but, with the benefit of an open fire, was cosy. Richard the gamekeeper and caretaker next door was helpful when we arrived in terms of explanation and friendly throughout.
Overall, this a great find and excellent value for money.

Hillwalking Break
Amazing & helpful staff during booking & stay. The cottage is in an excellent location for Strathcarron hills (we were a group of Hillwalkers). The cottage was well equipped & very comfortable with stunning views from sitting room.

We just want to come back.
We had a marvelous week with perfect winter weather, sun first half of the week and snow second half.
The house was cosy as the heating is very efficient. After a 5 hours walk in the snow to snug up on the sofas in the living room with a fire was just perfect.
The beds were comfortable and we could even find one in which our 6.9f son could fit (almost).
The only thing that we wished for would have been more pressure in the shower and maybe some bigger pan and dishes for the kitchen. But it certainly didn't prevent us from enjoying our stay and we would definitely like to come back.

Bad start good end
Property was not cleaned when we arrived, filthy oven and mouse droppings in beds. Property owner arranged full clean gave us a 4x4experience and 30% refund. Happy with their response, staff fantastic but won’t be visiting again.
Six of us stayed three nights at Stag Lodge and we really enjoyed it. There are two full baths, a full kitchen, wireless internet, TV with cable/satellite and movies, books, central heat that works really well, and a washer and dryer. The location is rather remote and, from the west, includes several single-track roads, but the drive is beautiful and we saw wildlife daily, like deer and martens. The midges were horrible and a week later I'm still itching, so I definitely recommend bug spray and keeping doors and windows shut! Tesco will deliver groceries, which is convenient. The closest petrol and groceries were in Kyle of Lochalsh, about 45 minutes away, so plan ahead for gas and shopping. It was a great base of operations to see everything from Eilean Donan to the Isle of Skye.

We are delighted that you enjoyed Stag Lodge and thank you for the lovely review. There is in fact petrol and groceries much nearer at Lochcarron (two grocers and two petrol stations) 15 or 20 minutes away
Good size property for our group. Large bedrooms, good living space. One downside was only 1 shower in the downstairs bathroom. The shower over the bath was not much use. Other reviews are correct about distance from shops etc but you are well alerted to this in the information provided. All in all a comfortable stay with a caretaker a phone call away to resolve any issues

Lovely lodge.
We were very happy with our stay in Stag lodge. We wanted to mountain bike near the Torridon area so this cottage was perfect for our needs. We loved the drying room and access to a washer and a dryer. The house is situated above a main road but we didn’t notice the traffic and the view from the living room was brilliant.
Stag Lodge was ideal for our purpose. We are a family and friends group who are in to Hill Walking. There is plenty of space to relax, cook and dry cloths. Perfect location for many Munro's, including very good access to some courtesy of the estate. Very comfortable and fully enjoyable.
The one criticism was the poor flow rate in the down stairs shower.

Stag Cottage
Had a great time, and loved the cottage - again. I have stayed on the Glen Carron estate many times over the years. If I have one small gripe, the water pressure for the shower is so incredibly weak that it clearly needs a pump.

Delightful location and lodge
Fantastic location and made to feel very welcome when we arrived. Rooms all set out to accommodate the family as booked and the main bedroom being downstairs away from the other rooms was useful with kids being bit older. House was well equipped but a curtain screen to allow more use of the upstairs bathroom would have been useful.
