About this property

58 Marygate. A beautiful and central 300 year old, 4 bedroom cottage.

58 Marygate, York (white cottage on the left in the picture) is a 300 year old cottage that has been recently completely renovated to a high standard, whilst retaining its original period features and charm.

It has a superb view from the front of the house over the entrance to the Museum Gardens and St Olaves Church.
Marygate is a fascinating, attractive street in a central York location. It is not too busy, so it is quiet at night. It's location makes it an ideal base to explore all of York's many attractions, all are within easy walking distance / Minster 5 mins walk, main shopping areas 5 minutes walk through the Museum Gardens.

The cottage has been equipped and furnished to a high standard incorporating a hand made kitchen with quartz work surfaces and Smeg and Neff appliances.

Bathrooms feature travertine tiles, duravit sanitary ware and hansgrohe rain showers. The main bathroom also has a freestanding bath.

The lounge has a period Georgian fireplace with solid oak flooring, comfy sofas and 2 leather arm chairs, there is a 40" Flat screen TV with a Netflix subscription.

Bedrooms include quality beds and soft, top quality cotton bedding. The master bedroom has a kingsize bed and an en suite bathroom with a great view at the front of the house. Also at the front of the house is bedroom 2 with a kingsize bed again with a great view over the front. At the back of the house is the dormer bedroom with 2 single beds and a nice view down Marygate Lane. There are flat screen TV's in all the 3 upstairs bedrooms. Downstairs is the fourth bedroom with bunk beds suitable for adults or kids.

Outside is a small courtyard area with patio furniture and planters.

There is a fast WIFI connection.

There is a large 24hr secure car park to rear of Marygate, (1 min walk) if you pre book it online and through a link I can forward, with a company like 'your parking space' you can park for as little as 5/6 pounds a day.

We also have a high chair, lightweight pushchair, fold down cot and toys/activities in the cottage for our guests with babies/toddlers.

There is the excellent Star Inn The City restaurant in the Museum Gardens opposite the house 2 minutes walk away. Also, the highly acclaimed Roots restaurant is just 4 doors down Marygate. The rest of Yorks' restaurants are just a short meander through the Museum Gardens, between a 5-10 minutes walkaway. There are two pubs on Marygate itself and a Sainsburys Local at the top of Marygate, 3 minutes walk away. The River Ouse is at the bottom of Marygate 1 minute walk away.

Regrettably we cannot accept bookings from stag or hen weekends as the property is in a quiet residential neighbourhood.

Family of 8 over Easter Weekend
Absolutely lovely property, perfect location(close enough to everything but still quiet, low traffic). We visited from the US, traveling from Newcastle by rail- a short walk to and from the station. The cottage is in perfect condition and accommodated our family ranging from 4 to 75... grocery store up the end of the street allowed us to prepare meals at home and visit sites around York at our leisure. We could not be more happy with the experience!

Annual Jolly
We recently stayed at 58 Marygate for 3 nights. We were a group of 6 ladies whose ages ranged from 42 years- 72 years. The house can sleep up to 8, however we felt this would have been a squeeze in the living areas if there were 8 adults, (would be fine with small children however). The location is perfect! We walked into the centre of York in less than 10 minutes, and there is a lovely pub on Marygate which has a fabulous atmosphere so this quickly became’our local’ during our stay. There is also a Sainsbury’s local at the top of Marygate which was handy. Our only slight niggle was the main bathroom was very cold, and could really benefit from an extra heat source in there. We also struggled to override the programmed temperature and set times for the central heating, but we could have quite easily contacted the host to rectify this but we chose not too. Both twin rooms lacked robes, and as we found the house became quite cold in the evenings, these would have been handy for all of our group to use, but there are plenty of blankets provided so utilised those instead. We really loved our stay here, and will definitely stay here again in the future.

I live in York with my husband and 3 girls. We love living in this vibrant, historic city.

Why they chose this property

We love Marygate and got married opposite this house in the Museum Gardens in the Hospitium. We fell in love with its quirky interior and friendly charm

What makes this property unique

It is rare to find a period cottage in central York so we were lucky to get it. It is on a great street because we are central yet away from the hustle and bustle
