A World Apart
About A World Apart
I've had a love for the Smokies throughout my life. Annual retreats to their splendor, beauty, and peace have been a part of my life since I was a small child. When I need a reprieve from the sometimes hectic 'normal' life that I head to the bosom of these old mountains. Just one breath of cool, crisp morning air seems to put everything back in its proper place. I hope you too can find a little of that mountain magic. --Brien, Charlotte, NC
A World Apart purchased this Cabin in 2008
Why A World Apart chose Maggie Valley
The name “A World Apart” came quite easily standing on the porch one early evening. After your visit I hope you’ll understand why... The land on which A World Apart sits has been in the family for a few decades. The cabin was started in 1985 and was literally built board by board by one person. It was a quiet retreat and went through numerous design changes and additions, but the interior was never completed (some would say it was never started). With its lack of insulation, few exposed frame walls, and roughed in plumbing and electrical, it was a fun place for getaways where no one could find you. In 2006, after many years of the cabin sitting desolate, I purchased the property. That set off a two year adventure of weekly drives to the property, more Lowes trips than I ever thought possible, and a frustrating and painstakingly slow yet rewarding process of reworking and completing the interior of the cabin and bringing it up to current building code. The majority of the work was done by my family including all the framing, electrical, heating and air, insulation, cabinetry, tile work, flooring and stairs (which was milled from red oak trees from my primary house), and too many other details to recall them all. It was a labor of love that nearly broke me in so many ways. We tried to pull from the best of the cabins we had visited around the Smokies and at the same time, add a little of our own flair and style. I am quite pleased with the result and have been rewarded by the many kind words and stories from guests.
What makes this Cabin unique
It’s all about location! The cabin sits just a few minutes West of Maggie Valley and Cataloochee Ski Resort. The Blue Ridge Parkway runs along the back side of the mountain. Even being so close to these amenities it feels as though you are on a quiet hiking trail in the middle of the Park. The 5.5 acres is surrounded on all sides by vacant properties so that there is literally no other sign of civilization within your view. The only sounds are the wind through the trees, the creek running through the hollow below, and nature living the way it was intended.

Road was treacherous! Nicely decorated. Could use some upgrading re a modern tv and appliances large and small. Have not seen the internet this slow since 17 years ago. Showers are for a
small individual. Must drive 20 miles to drop off trash, one of the rules. View is of trees and trees need to be trimmed on the way in.
No lights on the road, task a risk going out at night. There was privacy, no doubt there.
We had a wonderful time at “A World Apart” cabin! Beautiful, cozy, and made our stay lots of fun! We loved the pool table, hammock, And our five year old son loved playing with the box of cars and trucks! Made his day when he found that! Thank you for sharing this wonderful cabin with us!
Loved the privacy of the cabin. Hot tub, pool table, hammock, & fire pit were great amenities. However, when we arrived we noticed the cleanliness wasn't completely done; floor had been swept but left in a pile and empty paper towel roll left on the floor, steps to the hot tub broke as soon as we stepped up on it. I know these things happen, but it seems when you pay for cleaning fees, you expect to come in and not see these things, maybe even notice the steps were rotting....
Excellent Spot to Relax...
Thanks for the Great Break 👌
A world apart
Thanks for letting us stay at your cozy well appointed cabin. Enjoyed the wrap around deck, the hot tub, and comfortable beds.
The cabin was sweet but the location was not what we expected. The drive to the house was treacherous and there was no view of mountains from the cabin. Master bed mattress needs to be replaced and previous renter hid their garbage in the unclean fireplace. Also 2 of 4 bathrobes were missing. Eitherwise clean and very nice livingroom area. Not a fan of the vacant hornets nest but no issues.
