About this property
Quiet Mountain Evenings Above Gatlinburg
Haus of the Setting Sun faces west at the top of Ski View Drive in Panorama Point, above Ober Gatlinburg. Every evening from the deck or the hot tub you watch the sun drop behind the Smoky Mountain ridgeline while Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg light up below. One guest told us it looked like a little village on a movie set. That's about right.
We bought Setting Sun because we already had Rising Sun across the street and we weren't ready to stop. Same mountain, same elevation, same reason — there's something up here that's hard to explain until you've been here. We kept both.
THE SPACE The cabin sleeps 5. Downstairs is a king master suite with a full en-suite bath and French doors that open directly onto the deck — step outside for morning coffee or evening views without leaving the bedroom. Upstairs is a second king suite with a Jacuzzi jetted tub positioned at the window so you can soak while watching the mountains, plus a twin kids nook off the bedroom. The living area has a wood-burning fireplace available October through March. Overstuffed leather sofa and chair. Full kitchen equipped for real meals. Three TVs with Xumo streaming throughout.
OUTDOOR LIVING The deck is the center of the stay. The hot tub faces the sunset view to the west. Gas grill with propane, outdoor dining table, rocking chairs. The community pool is a short walk and open Memorial Day through Labor Day.
We self-manage both cabins and are reachable when guests need us. After years of vacationing here ourselves, we take that seriously.
BOOKING BOTH CABINS? Haus of the Rising Sun is directly across the street and sleeps 7. Together both cabins sleep 12 with separate spaces and shared mountaintop views. Good for reunions, multi-family trips, and groups that want to be together without being on top of each other.

Thanks so much Kevin. One of our favorite things about these cabins is how the mountain views seem to change throughout the day, especially around sunrise and sunset. We're really glad you enjoyed the comfort and atmosphere of the house, and we’d love to have you back in the Smokies again soon.
Lovely, comfortable home with beautiful views of the mountains and sunsets and an occasional bear and rabbits. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Those sunsets out there really do their thing, especially when you catch them after a full day out. Sounds like you got a little bit of everything too with the views and the wildlife around—always something moving through up there. Glad the place felt comfortable and easy to settle into. Come back and see us again at Roaring Bear Cabins anytime.
Unbelievable views, so nice and refreshinl to see and experience from the top the majestic views God enabled your home to provide us. We wish we had longer to linger / lounge on the balcony and hot tub but we loved every minute of our time.
Beautiful location and neighborhood. House was well-furnished. Clean. Some interior and exterior updates/maintenance will be needed in the near future to retain high rankings. Exterior pictures posted need updating.Slight delay with check-in, as instructions dropped into junk email. We would stay here again and would recommend the place to friends and family.
Had a relaxing weekend in this beautiful place with my husband and his brother and sister in law. Views are amazing.

Long weekend of beautiful views
We arrived late Wednesday around 11pm and when we walked into the house, I knew it would be a good stay. The house smelled amazing and first glance everything was very clean and decorated so cute! After getting a good nights rest, we could finally check the place out and the view was more than I could ask for. I will say, the road to get to the house was a little curvey in some spots, but I feel like it’s totally normal being that high up. The house was fully furnished with everything we needed. I would say it was about 10-13 minutes from downtown Gatlinburg and we managed to find a few different routes to get to the house. We would definitely stay again :)

That late-night walk-in after a long drive can make or break a stay—glad it felt right as soon as you got in. Once you wake up and see that view in the daylight, it usually seals it. And yeah, those mountain roads can feel a little tight at first, but most people get comfortable with them pretty quick. We’ve always liked how it’s just a short drive into Gatlinburg but still feels tucked away up there. Come back and see us again at Roaring Bear anytime.
Thank you Joseph for staying with us at the "Haus"! We are so happy you had an excellent stay and hope you come back and stay with us again soon!

Best place by far!!
This house is incredible. It’s at the top of the hill. It is quiet and peaceful. You can see the Smokey mountains from the back deck. There’s a pool and jacuzzi. The house is in a cul-de-sac so it’s easy to turn around. My family enjoyed this house very much and we will definitely return! Highly recommended!!

Being up there at the top with that view and a little peace and quiet is hard to beat. Sounds like you all got to enjoy the deck and hot tub the way it’s meant to be used. That cul-de-sac setup makes it a lot easier getting in and out too, which people don’t always expect on the mountain. We’d be glad to have you back anytime at Roaring Bear Cabins.
Beautiful view!! The house was clean and comfortable, and the location was perfect. We truly enjoyed our stay.

Perfect getaway in the mountains. Loved the drive up each night. We’d go down in the morning to all the great things around and come up when we were done for the day to enjoy the hot tub and relax with the best views! Accommodated a family
Of 5 perfectly!
Nice, clean property with spectacular views. You feel like like you’re away from it all but are only a short drive away from town. Would stay here again!

We agree that the view is amazing! Sunsets are our favorite! So happy you chose the "Haus" to enjoy the fall colors! Please come and visit us again!
The home was in great shape with amenities we wanted. The view was unreal. The location was almost exactly 15m to either pigeon forge strip or Gatlinburg strip, which was perfect for all the excursions we had planned. We loved coming back to the balcony hot tub. Had a noisy rental neighbor and contacted the owner who was quick to respond. The a/c was amazing. We were cold most of the time despite being the middle of summer. We will definitely come back.
The views from the balcony were breathtaking. We saw a bear everyday we were there. It’s a crazy drive up there for sure, but worth every curve and turn!
Great property and view! Picked it for the view and it did not disappoint. Lots of bear sightings! Takes about 15 min to get down or up the mountain. Ober upper parking lot is about 9 mins away.

About the host
Hosted by Suzanne & Wayne
We're Suzanne and Wayne, from Louisiana. We've been bringing our family to Gatlinburg since our kids were small — big family trips, other families along, just the four of us. We fell in love with the mountains early and never really got over it. We've owned several properties in the Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge area over the years. Rising Sun and Setting Sun are the two we kept. We self-manage both and are reachable when you need us.
Why they chose this property
We already had Rising Sun across the street and we weren't done. Setting Sun faces west and the sunsets are something else — the mountains go dark and the valley lights up and it just keeps going. We bought it because we wanted our guests to have that evening too, not just the morning.
What makes this property unique
At the top of Ski View Road above Ober, one of the highest residential elevations in Gatlinburg, with west-facing sunset views over the Smoky Mountain ridgeline and city lights of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge below — views that no cabin lower on the mountain can match.
