THIS PROPERTY NOW HAS A NEW TOTAL A/C SYSTEM FOR 2024!

Blue Lotus Cottage is a special beach cottage, custom built in 2005, and only one short block back from the ocean with a wide and direct ocean view.
A short walk (100+ steps) takes you to a small sandy beach area. Kekaha is small residential town, away from the crowds and major resorts, situated at the base of the Waimea Canyon. You will definitely get the island experience in this people friendly town, with Hawaiian neighbors. Kick back on the shaded ocean view lanai, in comfy lounge chairs, and enjoy the ocean breeze and look for whales. Enjoy the best sunsets the island has to offer, and get the least amount of rain and humidity on your vacation. With less than 15 inches of rain a year, this is the place to be when the rain is falling on other parts of the island.

The open floor plan incorporates the kitchen, great room, and dining area....all with a great ocean view. Walls of windows capture the trade winds, keeping the cottage comfortable.
The kitchen has a large island with stools and granite countertops. The kitchen is fully equipped with newer appliances, including a glass top range, fridge, dishwasher, oven, and microwave. Cooking meals at home is a pleasure. Every kitchen small appliance is here from coffee grinder to rice cooker, food processor, and a blender to make that island drink.
Beautifully furnished with wicker, sea grass, teak wood, island decor and art. Maple wood floors and fans in every room. A master bedroom with it's own bath, newer King bedroom furniture and mattress. There is also a second TV in the master bedroom. The second bedroom has NOVA MEMORY FOAM KING BED, and lots of soft pillows for added comfort. This room can also be made into a twin room upon request. There is a trundle bed in the 3rd bedroom, also with memory foam. All of the linens are new 500 ct. cotton sateen, and the towels are thick and thirsty. The personality and charm of this cottage will make your vacation one of the best experiences ever.

Kekaha Beach Park, about 1 mile away, offes lifeguard safety. Salt Pond Beach Park, about 15 minutes away, is a perfect crescent shaped beach park, which is ideal for small children with small waves. Polihale State Beach is for the adventurous beach goer, looking for that wild dune backed beach. After a bumpy 5 mile dirt road, you are rewarded with a secluded beach that is, to many, the most beautiful on the island.

At the base of the Waimea Canyon, you have direct access to fantastic scenery, and miles of hiking opportunities. It is often been called the 'Grand Canyon of the Pacific'.

Hanapepe Art Night, every Friday night, is for the art lover and only 10 minutes away. It's restored galleries have many art treasures for viewing and purchase.

Waimea, only two miles away, has a grocery store, restaurants, and a movie theater. Don't miss the fresh shrimp from the nearby Sunrise Shrimp Farm. Within minutes, there are several restaurants for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. For a special night out, the Poipu Resort area offers you numerous upscale dining and shopping opportunities.
Fifteen minutes to Port Allen marina, this is the starting point for the Na Pali Coast boat tours. Also nearby by, the Kauai Coffee offers taste testing and tours. There is also a public golf course that offers inexpensive golfing, in a historic hill top setting, offering challenging golf and fantastic vistas across the island.

But most of all, this community is a beach town.
You are guaranteed to have the driest and sunniest weather on the island each day, and access to 15+ miles of nearly deserted beach. Mornings are generally electric blue skies with light breezes. The sunsets are only seen from this part of the island, and they make for a memorable end to another day in paradise.

Come and visit for awhile, and you may find yourself wanting to stay forever. People fall in love with Kauai, and often come back every year, to spend their days by the sea in the sun and surf. Why not give it a try? You can spend a week here, for the price of two nights at one of the resort hotels.

There is a avocado tree! Nice place in a local location. We don’t feel like we are a tourist we feel like we can enjoy the real island life. The kitchen is well stocked. There are beach chairs, umbrella and towels. Even a remote for the TV that we could use. We will be back.

Great house and location

My husband and I stayed here for my birthday. We really enjoyed our stay. The house was nice and had everything we needed. We loved the very low key area the house is located in. The beach across the street was beautiful and had very few and sometimes no other people, which I loved. We will definitely be back!

Loved Our Stay

Aloha. This home is in a gGreat location in warm Kekaha. Quiet neighorhood, "welcoming" home, house was well stocked with dish ware, pots/pans, linen, etc. We appreciated the indoor airconditioning, the lanai with its comfortable outdoor seating, indoor layout in living and kitchen areas. Owners' communication was terrific in providing check in/out info, responding to our questions, etc. They made our stay comfortable. We had no worries with our stay there. Mahalo for a wonderful vacation.

House was perfect. Well equipped kitchen, clean, beach accessories provided along with large beach towels. Had many family staying around us and some without air conditioning, I must say, air conditioning is a must when visiting this side of the island. Would definitely go back.

Wonderful Place!

Our family of five stayed here for a little over a week and found it to be perfectly situated to give us access to the beach, hiking, and enjoying quiet together as a family. The open layout provided space to eat, play games, and relax together. With three bedrooms, the common area space, and outdoor seating on the lanai, everyone had a place to retreat on their own.

Perfection

We’ve been lucky enough to stay here twice and both times have been truly amazing. Most recently our family of 4 with two younger kids stayed 8 nights. Everything from pre trip questions, to check in, to the place itself was everything you could ask for. The host is extremely responsive and helpful. The house is fully stocked with every possible accessory. We especially appreciated the pac n play for babies to sleep in. We can’t go back soon enough!

Family Vacay

We had a wonderful stay in Kekaha. This house had everything we needed while we were there! It’s just a short trip to Kekaha beach park where we spent many evenings. The beach is not crowded and the kids had a blast! This house was minutes from the small boat harbor where our Nepali boat tour launched from which was by far our favorite day. It wasn’t far to go hike Waimea Canyon either. But I recommend lots of water and maybe don’t try to hike to the bottom of the canyon like we did, unless you are really experienced hikers (which we clearly are not!) Great places to eat over in Waimea as well. My husbands favorite was the Lava burger over at Gina’s Anykine Grinds Cafe. We had an amazing time!

Decent for a stay away from all the busy tourist areas

We liked staying here for being a bit off the grid away from all the busier tourist areas. It is a convenient beach location though you’re actually across the street from a school so children noise during school days & you have to walk around the school grounds to cross street to beach. We did appreciate the beach chairs & cooler provided. There were also towels, umbrella & sunscreen. I personally didn’t find it to be super clean but it’s well maintained & I am a bit picky. Unfortunately the washer wasn’t working when we arrived but Scott let us know the evening we checked in & he had a repair person lined up so it was dealt with asap. He &Keenan were very responsive to our needs & we did enjoy the laid back atmosphere & we were happy to have a grill for the fish we caught

Felt like a local

We really enjoyed our stay here. The house was extremely well-stocked with things we never would have even thought to have considered. The house is a bit dated, but the flow worked well for our family. This area of the island is not resort-y and has a very local feel. It is also farther away from the more touristy locations, but it is located close to Waimea Canyon (amazing hikes!), and we loved being close to JoJo’s Shave Ice. Also found several yummy restaurants nearby. It’s a great option if you don’t mind a bit of driving and want to get a more authentic-feeling experience on Kuaui with room for your family to spread out.

Blue Lotus Cottage Kekaha

The property had all the amenities needed, washer, dryer, lots of towels for beach and bathing. My Mom liked it was across the street from a church. Comfortable beds, air conditioning in living room and two larger bedrooms. We were able to fix meals fully stocked kitchen with cooking utensils. It was far enough out from Poipu to escape the traffic, but close enough that we were able to get there quickly. Lots of places to visit on the South end of the island and the sunsets were easily seen from the Hwy. There was three of us but plenty of room for 6. Will consider renting this cottage again in the future.

Not Accessible

I explicitly stated that I needed a place that was accessible. I knew there were stairs in the front but I thought the back led directly into the house. And I thought there were only 3 stairs in the front. Turns out there were 6 stairs in the front and back which made getting in and out of the house almost impossible. Perhaps this was a misunderstanding on the part of the broker but it seriously affected my stay. I also thought the photos were deceiving and made the beach and ocean appear a lot closer than it actually was. The house was clean and pleasant but my trip was ruined because of the accessibility issue.

Great jumping off point

There were 5 adults staying at the cottage. We enjoyed being in a small community, with the sounds of daily life around us, and the close proximity of the beach. We travelled around the island, exploring nooks and crannies, and this location served us well as we planned our various excursions. We enjoyed the outdoor shower, having a washer and dryer, and beach toys and towels. We also appreciated the kitchen being so well-stocked with cooking and dining utensils. The living space was very comfortable for our group. Two suggestions: maybe install a clothesline in the yard? And how about a full length mirror somewhere in the house?

Family Vacation

Our family of four had a great experience staying at this location. It is a bit away from most of the major tourist destinations and major stores, but that fit our plan for the trip and it was well worth it. Absolutely amazing location in a quiet neighborhood. House was as advertised and more. Beautifully maintained and had everything one would need to enjoy a lengthy stay without needing to contact the host. Thank you for the ease of the processes of booking, checking in, and checking out. Would definitely stay again.

Kekaha neighborhood

My adult siblings and I took my 82 yo mother, she wanted to go to Kauai. She loved the house and "it has everything". Kitchen well stocked, tasteful furnishings, good instructions pre arrival and at the house. Beach chairs, toys, floaty, ice chest even a beach umbrella; washer and dryer for afterwards. New heat pump AC for each room and ceiling fans. For coffee lovers: french press and a regular coffee maker. A Britta water filter pitcher. Quality cookware. very comfortable and well maintained. The House is close to Waimea drive if you want to explore the canyon. A few stores in Waimea10 mins drive. Poipu is 40 mins. Bring earplugs if you sleep on the east side of the house, their puppy whines in the early morning hours and then the roosters all over the area start in around 4am. Other than the animals, the neighborhood is quiet. a church/school is across the street from the house, and then "highway" 50 bordered by a lava stone seawall. the surf here is too rough to swim, "danger stay off" signs. Cant see the ocean through the church, so the description "100 steps to the beach" is deceptive for me. I had the impression we would be on the beach. More like 2 blocks away. But it has a SW view and you can imagine the sunset on the other side of the church while sitting on the covered porch, or walk down the street west a bit to get a better view. We attended a harvest festival for the community a couple blocks away-very nice to see families enjoying the food and music.

Adorable Cottage near the ocean

The Blue Lotus cottage was just about perfect for our needs. The house is super clean, has everything you could possibly need for cooking, living and beach-going: lots of fluffy clean towels, comfortable bed, air conditioning in every room, a well stocked kitchen, beach towels and chairs (and beach toys if you have kids). The front porch has a nice view of the ocean where we ate lots of meals. My only, slight negative is that it is quite a drive to the north side of the island. And, though beautiful, the close beach is not good for swimming. But, we really prefer the quaintness of Waimea, Kekaha, and Hanapepe to the really touristy north side. And we found a beach in Hanapepe (Salt Pond) that was amazing and only a 20 minute drive. We are already hoping to come back and would stay here again.

Sweet home away from home!

This home had everything we needed for our stay: a well-appointed kitchen, laundry facilities, beach-going equipment, and comfortable beds. It was very clean and well-maintained. There’s an avocado tree in the yard (I’m guessing they will be ripe in a couple of weeks, early October) as well as fragrant plumeria, hibiscus, etc. It was easy to adjust the air conditioning (heat pumps) and the house was perfect for our needs. I think the only thing is that the bathtubs need refinishing, as the surface is chipping, but they functioned well and were clean.

Immaculate and super comfortable

The home was very nice, super clean, well-furnished, very nicely decorated, and fully stocked. Obviously renovated in recent past by very good contractors, especially painters. It was perfect for our two couple needs. Beach towels and cooler were nice and helpful amenities. Also, DVR worked so we were able to record the Cowboy game while out on our no-door helicopter tour. cccccccontractots.

About the host

Hosted by Scott Worner

Host profile image
We purchased the house, being from New York, looking for a warm and sunny place to spend some quiet time.

Why they chose this property

More sun and warmth. Less rain and humidity. Quiet and more old world Hawaii. Love the 15+ mile beach. This is the real Hawaii, not the one of resorts and expensive hotels.

What makes this property unique

Favorite thing to do is just walk out the front door, across the street to the beach, and grab a spot under palm trees slightly to the left and watch the ocean and sunsets. Love to sit out on the lanai and read. I like to cook fresh fish, among other things, and that's why I have such a well equipped kitchen. We have done most of the excursions and just like to relax at home mostly. But my favorite excursion is taking a catamaran up the Napali Coast.
